Frightened Rabbit – Yawns Lyrics

To be honest, I'd rather a relationship end like this. There's just been a slow drift between them and now there's just no passion or spark left. They're together still because it feels like a "contract" of sorts. I think in relationships the longer you're together, the harder it is to break up because throwing all that time away, or at least that's the mentality of it. I really love when he says
"And in between courses they're gasping for air, so they yawn and look at their feet."
It just sounds miserable, having to gasp for air because either the tension or awkwardness is so thick. |

Sufjan Stevens – A Sun Came Lyrics
|
It's when you're left alone with God. When you're standing and no one's next to you, he's still there. When your friends turn their backs it's lonely and really sucks, but nothing about God is going to change. He's everything he's always been. |

Sufjan Stevens – Jacksonville Lyrics

I was blown away by this comment! I don't really know much of anything about poetry, but once again Sufjan's genius is revealed in another way. Thanks for breaking this down so we can visually see it. My respect for him just grows and grows. |

I agree :) I don't know if it really has any hugely significant meaning...it sounds just like two people having fun. At most she looks out for him if he starts to spin out of control or something, but yeah I can't wait for summer now! This song makes me want it that much more! Everything about it is so great. |

I love love love this, just like a bunch of his other songs I get goosebumps from it. I'm not sure what it means... but I have a guess. I think it may be about facing a huge choice in life and only depending on yourself. I feel like it's about listening to your gut feelings and trusting your instincts. |

Soooo gut. Love this song so much, and it actually got me a point when I was taking a random Japanese quiz. It asked what the second biggest city was and I said Osaka, just guessing from the song. Turns out to be right! |

I hadn't heard this until recently and I 'd have to agree. My favorite, lyrically, would be Majesty snowbird, probably sound wise as well. But I can't stop listening to this. I agree as well, with your thoughts on it. The first few times I heard it I had goosebumps the whole time. |

Trevor Hall – Under The Blanket Lyrics
|
Maybe... the blanket represents God's control. And he's asking why he follows the routines he does.
"Look into eyes and you will find that we're all of the same
Blood blood blood blood, blood blood blood "
In Christianity, Jesus gave his blood for everyone, not just those who follow him and don't. He loves everyone the same. |

Gregory and the Hawk – In Fact Lyrics

This songs lyrics are depressing, but I love how the tone is kind of hopeful and full of revenge. So great. Like many of you it's a song easily related to. Long story short, I liked this guy, he played so so so many mind games with me making me think it was mutual, along with all our friends. But at one point he wouldn't stop talking about another girl in front of me and so I threw it all away. I was hurt at the time, but now I'm done with him. Best part? He keeps trying to come back for me trying to tell me all these things and I just want no part of it. So while he hurt me and I still held on as a friend, I'm not giving him that benefit. In fact, I don't wanna be friends :). |

Noah and the Whale – I Have Nothing Lyrics

This song and "love of an orchestra" are my favorites. I've realized that it's not terrible I don't have a boyfriend, and never have. I just don't care anymore, I've got great friends. So I mostly identify with the beginning of the song, but he goes on to talk about how he still longs for that one person regardless. |

Sufjan Stevens – There's Too Much Love Lyrics

|
By the way goduke, I'm sincerely jealous. I've been checking for these lyrics about every other day! Hahaha craziness, but I'm extremely excited for his new album. Getting my hands on it will probably be the second best thing in my life, first would be when I met him! But yeah, at his concerts his newer songs felt very spacey, but were amazing none the less. A lot of them had seemingly deep undertones, it could just be me but they seemed pretty religious as well. Thanks for these lyrics by the way! |

Sufjan Stevens – Majesty, Snowbird Lyrics

Easily my favorite Sufjan song. Took me forever to decide but this is it, after seeing it live it was incredible. I get goosebumps every time I hear it, and I pretty much agree on all the interpretations as well. Such a strong song, if I could start a church we would sing sufjan songs, instead of only gospel and hymns. |

Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
Though possible I believe when he says you gave up a wife and a family, I think Sufjan is maybe referencing to himself. This is the only part that's ever strongly stood out to me about this song being Christian. Maybe Sufjan is saying he gave up the average lifestyle to continue letting God use him. I understand this post may not be loved because I talked about Christianity, but it's huge to Sufjan, so in turn is very likely. |

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics
| 14 years ago

Christianity is one of constant change and diversity. Had you made something along this rant when our country was first made you would probably have faced severe punishment. In my opinion that's absurd, of course you have the rights to believe what you want and agree or disagree on Sufjan lyrics. It may have roots from 2000 years ago but I mean, Christianity wasn't even around then, it all started with Judaism. |

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics

I'm a Christian and to me Sufjan is something else. I agree, not every song of his has a religious meaning or needs one. And I know of the people you're talking about that "claim him", it's kind of embarrassing, haha. But I do think the last line is a reference to the way God views sins. All are equal. But I'm sure this can be said for humanity itself, what's to say stealing is worse than drinking under age? Sure we have laws... but everything is relative. I think it can go both ways. But Sufjan is wonderful, the *sometimes* Christian singer I like. Seriously, everything else Christian I've heard sucks. |

Regina Spektor – Blue Lips Lyrics
|
Yeah, I mean as religious as I am, I'm not the person who goes around finding the Christian or whatever you are, meaning in every single song, but Regina herself is Jewish. So I wouldn't be surprised that this is on the same album as "laughing with", which is clearly religious. I can understand why people don't like religion but they have to face facts, people can write what they feel, and like it or not sometimes it's going to be about religion. |

John Mayer – Daughters Lyrics

Hahaha I'm not sure why but this song finally clicked for me. Like many of you I think he realizes that there's somethings you can't do anything about when it comes to a girls behavior. It's something learned and engraved by all male figures of their pasts. Me and my dad have a great relationship, but it's always been hard to get his attention. So when he would pay attention to me, it was just the best feeling. That same experience has followed me with guys. Whether I'm interested in them or not. I don't strive for attention by any means, but it's special when I do get it from a guy. That's just my personal reflection.

Regina Spektor – Blue Lips Lyrics
|
I think it's about religion. Not only because she actually mentions God, but the way the guy feels.
I think she's talking about how "regular" a religion can become. It can all be routine if you leave it at the basics. Pray, read your bible, etc. Blue lips = no sign of life, yeah? So I think she's talking about how if you're just going to be routine about all of it, there's not going to be any life in your relationship with God. "They made it past the enemy lines, just to become enslaved in the assembly lines." Religion can cause lots of struggles for yo through out your life, but once you break through and get what you were reaching for you realize sometimes it's just a cycle. I went out on some pretty big limbs with this, but I hope you see what I'm saying.
I'm very religious myself, and active in my youth group. I don't want to sound like I was bashing religions at all, but if you just do what's expected and what's average you won't have an active relationship with God, and you'll feel it start to die. |

Coldplay – Your Love Means Everything Pt. 2 (feat. Faultline) Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
To me its kind of what everyone else said.
For me it reminds me of my mental breakdowns
and depression I currently experienced,
it's kind of a soundtrack to this winter
for me, if that makes any sense. I put my
best friend through hell, and got mad when
he stopped trying to reach me.
But after all, it was my fault for pushing him away.
So for me, this song nails it. |

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics

Total agreement. I just don't understand mean atheists sometimes =/.
That's fine, disagree, don't believe in God, but I don't understand the people who get mad at Christianity, I can't defend many other religions because I'm not as well informed on those. But over all Christianity has good morals. I'm really glad she did this song. I'm not gonna try to look too deep into it because then I'm afraid it'll lose it's meaning and I think it's pretty frank already. I also agree with the part where people laugh at the idea of a God, but then turn to him in times of need. |

Lovee this song, so much!
I think the whole idea of God, to some people is a joke now a days.
All the Jesus and God jokes and such. And I think most of the song
is talking about how when you're put into serious situations like those,
you're not laughing anymore, what do you turn to?
But yeah I think she's also acknowledging God has a sense of humor, which is
very true.
I just loveee me some Reginaa <3 |

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead Lyrics

I just love this song. Everything about it, I'll never get sick of it, I'm convinced. I've been listening to it since thanksgiving. It's true, very releasing, and makes me dance everytime! Automatic mood upper! CAN'T WAIT FOR THEIR NEW ALBUM! As for what the song means... it changes for me all the time. I think all the lines are very broad concerning their metaphors.
"Like stars burning holes right through the dark.
Flicking fire like saltwater into my eyes."
I think the first line is about something really obvious, making itself apparent, or something just brilliant.
& if you think about the second line, it's really the most visual to me. Salt water in your eyes stings terribly. So I think maybe the combination of that part is saying something along the lines of the truth hurts. I could be way off, but that's just my favorite part. |
