Bloc Party – This Modern Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it is about a guy who is dating a girl, but is clueless. Basically he feels lost & she spells things out for him "you bought me a book" He is afraid of disappointing her, but even though he is "absent minded" he is eager to become a good boyfriend (Just keep telling me facts) because he enjoys her company (And keep making me smile). He asks her to be understanding (You've got to be more discerning), and keep trying because he wants to be with her really bad(I will be yours). She really cares about him (you told me you wanted to eat up my sadness) and he wants her to continue to pursue him (Baby, you've got to be more demanding). He asks why she is hesistant, most likely in frustration because he is too (What are you holding out for?). Ultimately he is afraid he will lose her, because he is hesitant too. He asks her to pursue him more aggressively, because he lacks the self confidence to do it himself. And the whole situation is taking a toll on him emotionally.(This modern love breaks me). At the end he is desperate to be with her again and simply asks her to come over and "kill some time". And then to "throw your arms around me". He has never felt feelings so strong before he is uncertain of how he should show them. |
The Killers – All the Pretty Faces Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Does anyone see this as a song about a guy coming out? How he loses feelings for a girl and that he doesn't want her telling anyone about him? |
Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
At the beginning its almost as if he's describing someone who has passed away. However i think it is to symbolize the death of a relationship rather than the actual death of the girl he is interested in. She doesn't want to be more than friends but keeps "putting the little weights" in his heart leading him on. Wether or not it is intentional that she is leading him on he has come to the conclusion that he will never be in a relationship with her. This leaves him feeling empty and sad which explains why so many people feel the same after hearing this song. As depressing as it is, i find it quite brilliant how the song can evoke the same emotions from the listener so well. |

Third Eye Blind – How's It Going to Be Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Its definitely about a relationship. He starts off like the break-up didn't effect him to much and he doesn't care about not being with her anymore. However as the song goes on to where he talks about "oblivion" His voice gets more intense and he is showing his true feelings about the break-up. Basically he misses how naive he was falling into "love" with his ex and wants to return to when times were good. However he knows its long past that and just wonders how life can move on without his former significant other who was such a big part of it. |
Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Love how the lyrics start out like a little kid bragging about minor accomplishments and slowly grows to a larger scale. Song makes you think. Kinda scary & intense, but nonetheless genius. |
Third Eye Blind – Losing a Whole Year Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There definitely could be a Great Gatsby Reference. But anyway, i think this song is about a guy who realizes after a year that although he may had feelings for her physically, they didn't reach deep enough to produce a longer lasting, relationship. When he mentions the velvet glove, i think he's symbolizing how she is afraid to touch things or rather be close to anything or anyone. Her strained relationship with her father shown in the line about him showing no love, further proves why she is so afraid of opening up to people. Having spent a whole year with her initially he felt a connection, but the feelings between them didn't grow into the love they were looking for. Partially it is because she could not be herself around him, and being her significant other he kept trying to get to know the real her, but one year later, he gives up. The repetition of "losing a whole year" reflects the fact the time lost in this relationship is just time. But as the lyrics go into analyzing his significant other and their relationship, it shows its the effort he put towards this lost cause is what frustrates him most. And when he talks about spending the whole day in bed, he looks back at a sweeter moment during their time together and wonders where it went and how he can go back there. Ok way long, but i had a lot in my head lol |
Lil' Wayne – Prom Queen Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Everyone on itunes commented on how this is way worse than lil' wayne's previous songs. Almost all of his songs were about sex, but this one is about a girl who turned lil' wayne down! Also I love the mix of rock and hip-hop, its really catchy. But above all, like i said this song is just different and in a really good way. He's singing about a situation that is more realistic and talking about a woman in a more respectful way... I say props to lil wayne ;) |

**drugs lol not rugs |
Snowden – Anti Anti Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think its about how people get into image and rugs and kind of "empty their head" of everything else important. they just become anti-everything because they stand for nothing. Wherever the trend blows they follow |
Pinback – Good to Sea Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song sounds like he ran into an ex Just when he thinks he's over her he sees her and all his feelings come back however he knows she is not right, but she keeps popping up in his head and he can't stop thinking about her His attempts at getting his mind off her don't work and he feels he hit rock bottom Deep down he knows she's not the right one, but he's mind hasn't really registered with it. thats what i get out of this song at least :) |
The Ropes – Kill Her Off Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I like this song :) i think its about her friend or however who's interested in a girl who just brings him down and she's trying to get him to wake up&smell the coffee lol |
Foo Fighters – Aurora Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song just puts me in a good mood and its an overlooked song. Taking in considering his background in Seattle it sounds like younger ambitious him before he got big with nirvana. maybe when he said "i just kinda died for you" he was talking about kurt cobain? i could totally be off but its just a thought anyway he's talking about dreaming about leaving his hometown and then reflecting on his past when he says "hell yeah i remember aurora" taking him back to the good days |
Sugar Ray – Falls Apart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Its about a girl who's really depressed and tries to hide it. However those who know her best already see it He keeps wanting to hold on to her, but her hand keeps slipping away when he tries when he says she's leaving at the end he's kind of saying after all his attempts she never let him in. She just runs away from everything and doesn't want to face it all its sad, but an awesome song nonetheless |
Cat Power – Cross Bones Style Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Cat Power has an amazing voice When i hear this song or "sea of love" i can't stop hitting repeat. |
Priscilla Ahn – Dream Lyrics | 16 years ago |
In the beginning she's talking about playing outside and using her imagination. She asks God who's she's sposed to be the first time the possibilities seemed endless and she was carefree. However the second time she feels more restricted she feels like she's lived the best part of her life and is thinking "ok i've had my fun, now i'm ready to go" or something along those lines |
Daphne Loves Derby – Cue The Sun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It reminds me of how somebody would feel going into the war. writing back to his family "If i don't come home tonight.." however he sounds regretful so perhaps he feels guilty of harming or killing somebody in battle or something he could also feel regret about spending such a long time away from home worrying his family, not raising his kids if he has any |
Missy Higgins – Where I Stood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Its about a girl who is probably a teenager probably breaking up with her first love She felt really happy and finally felt grounded then the breakup tested all she believed in now she's questioning everything including who she is and her place in the world or where she stands leading to the song's title |
Jimmy Eat World – Like She'll Always Be Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It reminds me of a friend of mine that had an eating disorder No matter how hard you try to get somebody in a situation like that to see themselves as the wonderful person they are its not up to you. Ultimately the person themselves must do it themselves when he says "I'm a alone in this etc..." he's describing how they would feel alone and out of the reach of anyones help |
Box Car Racer – Letters To God Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song could relate to someones drug overdose To me it sounds like the person has been living recklessly and has come to a point of desperation. They realize they are getting closer towards and start to wonder about life after or heaven. When the person is saying" i won't lie, i won't sin" they're trying to make it up to God and make things right. However i think they start to lose hope when they say "maybe i don't wanna go" it kinda reminds me of blink-182's song "GO" where in one part the music stops and mark just keeps repeating the lyric "I don't wanna go" over a few times Anyways its sad because its basically a song about a person losing faith, because they feel they have screwed up too much. |
