Maria Mena – Power Trip Ballad Lyrics

a very powerful song about the effects of divorce from the point of view of the child and how it effects him/her, very devastating...mostly an attack on her mother
my favorite song on the album |

walking a thin white line...between love & hate

Dave Gahan – A Little Lie Lyrics
|
i like this song, i think its interesting
'we've come undone' it seems to be about a failed relationship;
'to me you always be the one' regret the person feels after cheating on their partner
'it's just a little lie, you know it means nothing' trying to downplay their wrongdoing
'i've never felt at home' suggests possibly that the relationship was rocky

Dave Gahan – Down Lyrics
|
one of my favorites on the hourglass album
"down on the ground, its where i'm bound"
i think the lyrics are about a person who is on the verge of death, it conjures up an imagery of lying in a field with a person, could be a loved one or a soul mate, just counting down the inevitable.
"and the world keeps turning..."

this is probably one of their most powerful songs ever composed....
has an obvious spiritual feel to it
as a previous poster has said, this song performed live is amazing!
IMO SOFAD is their greatest collection of songs to date |

definitely a highlight track on this album and it stands out even more as its the only Gore sung track on the standard release of SOTU
xcentric is probably spot on with the prostitute analogy

Depeche Mode – Insight Lyrics

you could also make a case that Martin wrote this song with Dave in mind: "this is a strange flight i'm taking" could be a reference to dave's past troubles and "this is the first chance, to put things right" is dave getting back on track
definitely one of the defining tracks on Ultra |

Depeche Mode – In Your Room Lyrics
|
I adore this song - both versions! the album version is absolutely amazing; it creates such a powerful atmosphere...while the single version is a more heavier sound.
I think its about a person who lives entirely in his/her head (In your room & Only you exist here), a world where this person is a sort of God, controlling everything. |

Suzanne Vega – Ludlow Street Lyrics

|
"all of the people i once knew" & "when i go back to ludlow street"
I think this song is about someone revisiting their past and discovering that the place they had once known had changed. |

Devastatus, you mean to tell me your mother didn't love you?
I think everyone can relate to an overprotective parent, more or less |

Pink Floyd – High Hopes Lyrics

|
my first thought was that this song was about his relationship with Roger Waters, once good friends longing for good old days...personally i can relate to it quite a bit.
the lyrics are simplistic, probably nothing Waters would attempt, but musically it is up there with the best of their stuff |

Pink Floyd – Jugband Blues Lyrics

my first impressions of this song was, its your typical syd barrett with his crazy lyrics until that last little verse comes along...it's really haunting stuff |

Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics

I really like the version on Live at Pompeii, sometimes more than the original; there's just something about that version (maybe the vocals stand out more) |
