Chad Vangaalen – Blonde Hash Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Eeesh, that's annoying. This isn't instrumental at all, there are a lot of lyrics. They're just rather hard to decipher. |
Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
FYI, he's gay. But yeah. |
Grizzly Bear – A Simple Answer Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Seems to have something to do with being nihilistic and not caring about morality. "No wrong or right, Just do whatever you like." "let's face that all you trust is a cynical phrase." |
Animal Collective – Mercury Man Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sounds like machines talking to me on the phone. I say, but they don't quite get me. It's hard to make my feelings known. Sometimes I wish for a long wave. When I'm waiting for someone to calm my tone, bad vibes I've got hold dementia. When I'm one thousand Hz from home, sometimes I wish for a short wave home. Two human beings. I'm upset, you're upset, what's to be done? Old lines. Everybody talking from their homes. Bad news, but your bed'll leave ya (?). If you could only feel what's wrong. Sometimes I wish for a hand wave home. Two human beings. I'm upset, you're upset, what's to be done? Two human beings. What a mess, what a mess, what's to be done? To slide off like mercury. Can I play my part like mercury? Would you let me feel like mercury? Can I always be like mercury? To slide off like mercury. Let it slip like mercury. Would you let me feel like mercury? Can I always feel like mercury? We must be somewhere, Can't find it nowhere, the love. Is it me? I keep calling, it feels like there's no one here. |
Animal Collective – Father Time Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Open up your locket. Does solidarity breed from a good foundation? When things speed out of date now, you can be falling and when your up, it's blown up with all new buildings painted they're not your colors, when all the places you went to. You don't get what they offer, but, hey, that's Nathan, but didn't he pass a long time ago? Where'd he go? Where'd he go, now? Where'd he go? Where'd he go? We exorcised the weekend, now all the demons can't play but they snuck into Thursday. We're looking out for panthers from the road again, but didn't they pass a long time ago? Where'd they go? Where'd they go, now? Where'd they go? Where'd they go? Luck it's not real. Oh, it's real. No, it's not real Maybe it's only real when lightning landed and hit you right where you were standing, Or when your imagination shows you what only time is supposed to tell you. And then I imagine time: he's got real big hands and bigger plans... From a long time ago. And did I remember suitcase and all the things in my head and all the expectations of doing something special. I could be gone today, but where do they take me? No. Luck, it's not real, though my feelings say it's real. Maybe it's only real when someone blinds you when they had always been so kind to you. Imagination won't get moldy, can't wait for time to unfold me, and then I imagine time: he's got real big hands and bigger plans... From a long time ago. There are none too small. (Repeat) |
Passion Pit – Where We Belong Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Wow, didn't know until I looked up the lyrics how devastating and sad this song is. Holy shit. |
Sufjan Stevens – Futile Devices Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Also, the final segment of "Impossible Soul" reflects the tone of this song and is about his selfishness and love of pleasure, and the fact that he feels he's making a woman unhappy because he's too selfish. This screams conflict of sexual identity. The feeling of wanting to be straight and being with a woman, then feeling selfish for not really loving her is probably a pretty universal feeling for closeted men. |
Sufjan Stevens – Futile Devices Lyrics | 12 years ago |
He says it's dumb to call someone he loves a brother. He is not REMOTELY making a religious allusion. Literary allusion is the opposite of what he wanted to achieve in this album -- it's a straight-forward, emotion based album. "That sounds dumb" is the most vulnerable statement ever, why would he put that after saying "all men are brothers in the bible." |
Sufjan Stevens – Futile Devices Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Wow, after actually reading these lyrics, I am finally convinced that Sufjan is gay. I always loved the last line, never paid attention to the rest. He is explicitly stating he's in love with a man -- why else would he say "brother" instead of something else? There are enough other references to this in other songs, and this sells it. Not that I care, I'm gay, and I've often connected with the more homosexual sounding lyrics in his music. |
The Long Winters – Teaspoon Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Holy crap, I agree with the heroin comment. Not 100% sure, the second verse doesn't definitely fit that analysis, but most of the song does. Then again, I think he just make a lot of really personal metaphors that most people won't get -- like in "Seven." |
The Decemberists – Dear Avery Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I like the above post, mostly because it points out how musicians don't need to write songs that are related to their personal lives at all. In fact, I think a lot of them don't, and people get confused thinking that they're trying to. |
Yeasayer – The Children Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Going to point out the obvious, "We are the children, not the youth, not kids But is not time to pretend, my friend This might just be the end" reference to MGMT |
Mumford & Sons – White Blank Page Lyrics | 13 years ago |
no way is he singing to his ex's boyfriend, that makes it way too unclear to refer to two "yous". he's singing to a guy, and I agree that's pretty sexually ambiguous. |
Beach House – Used to Be Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I prefer "coming home any day now" to the old version so much. it's so perfect, I don't even understand. |
Sufjan Stevens – Impossible Soul Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Totally right that it's impossible to not focus on the song when doing other things. And it's soooo loooong. |
Sufjan Stevens – Vesuvius Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This one is tough to crack -- not sure what the eruption of Vesuvius means metaphorically in relation to Sufjan, but clearly, like with a lot of tracks on the album, it's getting at some kind of repressed darkness or sadness inside of him. |
Dirty Projectors – No Embrace Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"I am not bound to the difference between The real and the real to me" "I think I understand why you hate me For what I've done, for what I haven't done" these lines stood out so much when I saw them live. really smartly said. |
Dirty Projectors – Beautiful Mother Lyrics | 13 years ago |
and by life, I mean live. |
Dirty Projectors – Beautiful Mother Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is amazing life. Had the audience cheering every time they hit the non-lyrical vocals. |
Kanye West – Power Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"beethoven of our generation" this is hilarious. go read lyrics that aren't rap. he is a talented poet, but by no means at the top of the game, nor among the best of all time. this shit is so straightforward, it makes me sad that our generation thinks it's clever. |
Sufjan Stevens – I Walked Lyrics | 13 years ago |
also, it's not "loveless life" or "loveless bite." sounds like the word starts with M, possible "might," but I don't think so |
Sufjan Stevens – I Walked Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sounds like typical break-up love stuff, but with brilliant wordings. The chorus is friggin' great. Also, what, Sufjan? Where did this new sound come from? I'm glad he took so many years off if this is why. |
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs (Continued) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah, looping the CD is great with this leading into the first song. awesome first verse. |
Arcade Fire – Month of May Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Don't like this one much, and it seems most people don't? The sound calls back to some 80's rock, but I don't quite know what the song is about. |
Arcade Fire – Rococo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
someone needs a course in Sarcasm. |
Arcade Fire – Rococo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Haha, good job. |
Gorillaz – White Flag Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Dude, I'm pretty sure this is just about the island Plastic Beach from the "Gorillaz World." |
Modest Mouse – Florida Lyrics | 14 years ago |
just realized that leaving Florida has to do with leaving because of the hurricanes, seeing as the theme of this album is global warming. |
Joanna Newsom – Good Intentions Paving Company Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I see this about the road of living through a relationship. Lots of metaphors about fighting, stubbornness, compromise, and the "good intentions paving company" is a metaphor for how we all go into this road with good intentions. The melody of this song is amazing. |
Iron & Wine – Resurrection Fern Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with this heartily. |
Iron & Wine – Resurrection Fern Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with kamikazebohemia. There is nothing in here about a woman, and every time he talks about what people are doing it's as "boys," meaning both (or more than two) of the characters are boys. The fact that these characters are undressing by the fire may or may not have romantic significance, but it obviously seems to. I get that feeling every time I listen to it. I'm biased to see a homosexual interpretation of songs, but I don't really see much about a relationship here and kamikazebohemia seems to be spot on that it's two boys growing up. "We gave the world what it saw fit" and them ignoring the "amen" make a lot of sense in terms of this interpretation. But you never know. I don't really agree with all the ridiculously analyzed civil war metaphors and stuff, I don't believe anyone thinks about poetry/lyrics that way when they're writing it. I've written a lot, and frankly trying to make a million different vague metaphors is tedious and boring, but I guess no one can prove it one way or another without him saying something about it. |
Grizzly Bear – Dory Lyrics | 14 years ago |
that was obvious... |
Vampire Weekend – California English Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Sweet carob rice cake--she don't care how the sweets taste--fake Philly cheese steak, but she use real toothpaste. Cuz if that Tom's don't work, if it just makes you worse, would you loose all of you faith in the good Earth? And if it's all a curse, and we're just getting worse, baby, please don't lose your faith in the good earth." I love these verses--vegans who don't care what their food tastes like, but will use the non-natural toothpaste because it actually works better. |
Vampire Weekend – California English Lyrics | 14 years ago |
according to many accounts, it's based also on a political movement and the video game Contra. |
Animal Collective – My Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think adobe slats are roof tiles. you don't use adobe for window blinds. |
Tegan and Sara – Alligator Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I saw them in New York last night, and there are DEFINITELY points where Sara looks like she might be saying "Oh you." But it's so difficult to tell if it's on accident or not. then again, they also mess up/change lyrics a lot on new songs in show. |
Tegan and Sara – Don't Rush Lyrics | 14 years ago |
*lyrics booklet |
Tegan and Sara – Don't Rush Lyrics | 14 years ago |
do you have this from the actual lyrics? |
Flight of the Conchords – I Told You I Was Freaky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
these guys are winners |
Tegan and Sara – Night Watch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I *almost* changed it, listened to it, thought "Maybe that's it." Then I listened again, and if that's what they're saying, they're saying it in a weird enough way to sound exactly what I wrote. if someone sees the lyrics pamphlet, and it says that, I'll change it. |
Tegan and Sara – Alligator Lyrics | 14 years ago |
there's a LOT of "I'd" that you added that's not actually there. |
Tegan and Sara – The Ocean Lyrics | 14 years ago |
actually, you're right, it is "to." sounded like a rushed "over," but I think not now. |
Tegan and Sara – Paperback Head Lyrics | 14 years ago |
name makes more sense, so I changed it, but I don't really hear the "m" at all, especially in Tegan's (lower) voice. |
Tegan and Sara – Paperback Head Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah, considering this is what I first heard, I'm changing it back. I hear that too. |
Tegan and Sara – Don't Rush Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it's not the same every verse though...the second time it sounds like "they find" or "hit by." |
Tegan and Sara – Don't Rush Lyrics | 14 years ago |
ah, yeah, I like that. |
Tegan and Sara – Night Watch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
the very last line definitely sounds like "so can do it" to me, but with songs it's hard to tell on those sorts of things. |
Tegan and Sara – Night Watch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I can't tell, but since Sara is saying "YOU cannot follow me," meaning she's talking to someone, I interpreted it as "can" because "I" implies that someone is responding. |
Tegan and Sara – Sentimental Tune Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yep |
Tegan and Sara – The Cure Lyrics | 14 years ago |
oh wow, it is luck. huh. |
