The Doors – Light My Fire Lyrics 14 years ago
Well, I had an English Teacher in high School who told the class that the lyrics to this song were inspired by the short story "The Boarding House" by James Joyce. The character in the story is a tenet in a boarding house and he has a thing with the owner's daughter - At one point she asks if he can "light her fire" for her candle.
Who knows if that's true or not.

Devo – Social Fools Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree that it sound like the dumb asses that people have to deal with, especially in High School who say things like "I hate my parents" or "Why do I have to learn any of this?"
They say "Now your dog won't go, when you try to make it" - It's kinda saying "See? this is how you were. See how frustrating it is to deal with people who won't listen?"

Devo – Patterns Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it says alot of finding ones self, in a sense. We are stuck in this perpetual pattern of conformity. When they say "in this land where stability is hard to find" I think it has alot to do with saying "f*ck it" and doing what you want to do. Ya know? Don't fall into the same patterns as everyone else.

Devo – Peek-a-Boo Lyrics 14 years ago
The Line "if you cannot see it you think it's not there - it doesn't work that way" is a reference to the game "Peak-A-Boo". It had been said that babies think that when they can't see you, you no longer exist.

Devo – Big Mess Lyrics 14 years ago
That is correct - It's about a guy who called himself Cowboy Kim and wrote bizzare letters to the bad. If you look at the actual letters they look and read like they were written by a 7 year old.

An Except:
"I am a lucky Cowboy. I am Mr. reality (...) I am the busy celebrity cowboy. I am 26 yrs. old. I am a cowboy diskjockey."

Weird stuff.

Oingo Boingo – Mary Lyrics 15 years ago
I haven't seen anyone compare this song to Myshkin's story in Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot". In the Idiot a woman named Mary leaves her home town and when she comes back people start to turn on her until the children beging to show their love for her. Just a thought.
