Audioslave – Like a Stone Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[blind_rockstar:35568] My God. I did not know that. I knew Chris Cornell was a genius writer and great singer, but the meaning of the song really did change the game. Now I got to go back to reading more of his lyrics to get the real meanings behind it. Thanks for that story. |
Creed – One Last Breath Lyrics | 3 years ago |
He's contemplating suicide and nearly to his "last breath", calling out for God to save him from it, but he's not answering him so he's losing hope. He's calling out from him one last time before he does commit himself. |
Creed – My Sacrifice Lyrics | 3 years ago |
It's his rediscovering Christ and God after his substance abuse. It's pretty self explanatory and very kick ass song. Most of his songs as well as Live has some sort of religious imagery and tone. |
Live – All Over You Lyrics | 3 years ago |
The singer is very religious and just like all of his songs, it pertains to certain religious imagery. For this one, I believe he uses a verse about Luke 8:22-25 in which Jesus calms the sea. It's a metaphor for having faith even when life get's stormy. Singers like to use religious verses to resonate with their lives to make them into hit songs like this. It's such a great song too! |
Everclear – Santa Monica Lyrics | 3 years ago |
Everclear was pretty straight forward with this song, that it's basically about Santa Monica, but I do believe they're skating away from the real meaning. I do believe the real meaning is about depression and battling it. It's basically about one man's battle with depression and fighting it instead of "Watch the world die". I feel like he's talking to depression in first person. Take for instance: I am still living with your ghost (Depression) Lonely and dreaming of the west coast (Trying to think of happy thoughts, Santa Monica) I don't want to be your downtime (Depressive state) I don't want to be your stupid game (Again, depression playing games with him) With my big black boots and an old suitcase I do believe I'll find myself a new place I don't want to be the bad guy I don't want do your sleepwalk dance anymore I just want to see some palm trees I will try and shake away this disease (He's going to Santa Monica to see if he can "shake this disease") We can live beside the ocean Leave the fire behind Swim out past the breakers We can live beside the ocean Leave the fire behind Swim out past the breakers Watch the world die (Jump into the ocean past the breakers to die slowly, "watch the world die") It really speaks for itself. I could be wrong. |
Heart – These Dreams Lyrics | 5 years ago |
This song was originally wrote for a fan that Nancy Wilson had befriended who died from Leukemia. It was basically a song about facing dire situations. It tells a story about her friend living in a fantasy world, whoever, wherever and whenever she wants to be as long as she sleeps. "These dreams" is the only thing that hides all the pain in real life. I love this bittersweet song. Just full of brilliant metaphors. |
Toto – Africa Lyrics | 6 years ago |
This song is pretty straight forward but really can be interpreted any way you like it. The song writer said he thought this song up one day after watching a documentary on Africa and how people were struggling and dying. He imagined himself in their position. "She" is really Africa. |
Talking Heads – Wild Wild Life Lyrics | 6 years ago |
This is definitely about Cocaine. Coke was the most popular drug and prevalent in the 80's. In the 90's it became heroin. But Byrne is basically singing about how coke applied to anyone and everyone. It was crazy times. You can be a business man, a doctor, anybody. You can take it anywhere, any time to "check in and check out". It was a way to escape from the monotony of life in the 80's and party. |
The Cult – She Sells Sanctuary Lyrics | 6 years ago |
The singer admittedly said it's about sex. I mean come on, "Oh, the heads that turn Make my back burn And that's heads that turn Make my back, make my back burn, yeah Hey yeah hey, yeah hey" She's on top of him, selling her sanctuary "safe place" to him in bed. "Inside her you'll find sanctuary Inside her you'll find sanctuary" You get it. |
Metallica – Harvester Of Sorrow Lyrics | 6 years ago |
I believe this song is about depression and how it can take the toll of an individual to a deep, dark path, eventually into drugs, booze, then to murder. Depression is evil personified. Evil is the harvester of their sorrows. |
Iron Maiden – The Trooper Lyrics | 12 years ago |
People claiming anything American about this song is dead wrong and absurd. Iron Maiden is British and gives zero fucks about American history. This song was about the Crimeon War w/ Russia vs the British over the decline of the Ottoman Empire. It was a war to see who gets that land. They used muskets and horses. Very deadly war. |
Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train Lyrics | 12 years ago |
None of you guys got this right. This song is about cocaine. He talks about how people talk and talk, theres things that are so bad in this world, the only thing that will help is "going off the rails on the crazy train". Cocaine will make you go crazy when you do too much of it. This was during the time when he was getting off the drugs and thought this song was relevant to what he was going through. |
Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit Lyrics | 12 years ago |
You are absolutely right. Grace Slick even mentioned this. People during that time thought it was a psychedelic song about hallucinogenics and what have you, but it was a metaphor for the war and how Jefferson Airplane were anti war. |
Maná – Corazon Espinado Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Basically means a guy trying to get the affection of a woman, but she rejects him, he gets hurt so bad that it feels like a "thorn in the heart". He says that one day, you'll look back and feel that same thorn in the heart. |
The Rolling Stones – Beast Of Burden Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This is basically the format that Mick Jagger has always had. Guy goes after girl, girl wants more, guy just wants sex, nothing else. doesn't want to be her "Beast of burden". "But put me out of misery" meaning just have sex with me, take my shoes out, take whatever out, just have sex with me please. |
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Basically it means you go through some tough times, but you get back on your feet and everything is all good, you're happy, the outlook is great, it's a beautiful day, then something bad happens again, you just deal with it. He's asking have you ever seen the rain? yeah, it's depressing but it goes away. Don't think it doesn't. Perfect for where we at now. |
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Fortunate Son Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song was basically a big fuck you to the draft during Vietnam. |
John Mellencamp – I Need A Lover Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Message is pretty clear on this one. Just a good guy looking for a good girl |
Fleetwood Mac – Gypsy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Gypsys are independent, freebirds, that like to roam. She wasn't that when she got into Fleetwood Mac. it became a business and this song illustrates her desire to be that gypsy again, that she was. Gypsys during that time were also considered like hippies as well. |
Fleetwood Mac – Dreams Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Finally someone with the correct meaning. That is what she said. This is why fleetwood mac is so genius. This was Mick's band, but Mick let Stevie and Lindsey write all the songs because he saw how powerful they were together. You can also relate this song to their other songs, "Go your own way", "Never going back again". It's like a story if you put it all together. |
Rick Springfield – Jessie's Girl Lyrics | 12 years ago |
haha that was pretty funny |
Madonna – Borderline Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Are you serious? LOL um no. It's already been explained. Remember, this is the 80's. Lyrics were pretty straight forward. |
Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 12 years ago |
That's wrong because I saw an interview with him. It's plain and simple. He even laughed it off saying girls think it's for them. He says it's for his friends, his band members. He was at the beach one day, trying to brainstorm some lyrics and the whole scenery just took him by. He wished Incubus was right there with him. |
Pearl Jam – Corduroy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
People. Just look at the title. Corduroy. No need to interpret or discuss song meaning. He said it himself that it's about that time he went to a vintage store, bought a corduroy jacket, wore it on MTV one day, then big corporations wanted to capitalize on it and sell it to his fans for x10 the amount which they all bought into. He feels sick and disgusted by it saying they can do that, but he won't back his name with that. Basically means FOLLOW YOUR OWN TREND, DON'T FOLLOW SOMEONE ELSE'S. |
Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Actually, most of you are right. It is about Lindsey and Stevie. Lindsey wrote most of his songs about Stevie. The dude was head over heels in love with her, I don't know if the same could be said about Stevie, but Lindsey wasn't exactly the most perfect boyfriend. They had a pretty bad past together. You guys might know about all the drug usage, abuse, etc. Lindsey used to do crazy stuff like sleep with his guitar. But needless to say, Stevie got tired of his antics and left him. Here is my interpretation of his lyrics: Loving you Isn't the right thing to do How can I ever change things That I feel (Lindsey thinks that loving Stevie was a bad thing, mixing personal and business, but he fell head over heels for her.) If I could Maybe I'd give you my world How can I When you won't take it from me (Realizing it's too late, he would have gave her his "world", meaning everything he had in him. But she's already made up her decision and is adamant to staying broken up) You can go your own way Go your own way You an call it Another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way (They obviously had broken up in the past, hence "you can call it another lonely day", but this time she means it and the chorus, which has a much more higher tone to it expresses his desire to stay in the relationship and hope it comes clear to Stevie) Tell me why Everything turned around Packing up Shacking up is all you wanna do (At that time, Stevie was done with the coke, but Lindsey was still on drugs and Stevie wanted stability. Lindsey could not give her that) If I could Baby I'd give you my world Open up Everything's waiting for you (Again, he keeps repeating that line. Kind of like a guy being dumped. You get hurt, you repeat the same thing like "Baby, please come back") You can go your own way Go your own way You an call it Another lonely day You can go your own way go your own way (No, Stevie made up her mind and so has Lindsey) |
Fleetwood Mac – Never Going Back Again Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's about his depression and relationships. Lindsey once said something of that nature in a show where he explains all his songs. Didn't explain the song thoroughly but here is my interpretation to it: She broke down and let me in Made me see where I've been (This may or may not be about Stevie, but someone who he truly loved opened up when he was in that state of depression. They talked about his state) Been down one time Been down two times I'm never going back again (This is Lindsey talking now. He doesn't want to get depressed anymore. he's fine and is "never going back again") You don't know what it means to win Come down and see me again (This is what Stevie is saying to him. She feels he keeps losing the fight. "Come down" from the depression and see her again. She needs stability and she can't baby him every time. He needs to find himself. Been down one time Been down two times I'm never going back again (This is Stevie talking) |
Incubus – Echo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This means basically he wants to be convinced that this "thing" he has with the girl is real and wants something to show that it is. He's been hurt before and doesn't want to get those feelings again of being in love and then being hurt in the process. This is all the guys perspective as the lyrics implies nothing of the girls feelings towards him. But one thing is for sure is that her biggest fear is being rescued. Apparently she doesn't want to be rescued, rather let it all unfold the way it should be, like how nature takes its course. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Otherside Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about death and how he's not afraid of it after all the shitty things are in real life even with fame. Basically he's saying don't be afraid of death, it's not as bad as you think. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Scar Tissue Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about being strung out on heroin. most of these songs are written by John Frusciante who had a major problem with heroin back in the days. Some of the lines suggests some of the things he's gone through while strung out on heroin. |
Fuel – Shimmer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
^^Perfect interpretation, but that line about "love is for only fools that fall behind" means that she's having fun and love isn't in the equation. She just wants to have fun and not worry about love yet, but he's behind in her seek for enjoyment. |
A Flock of Seagulls – I Ran (So Far Away) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Basically about a guy being struck by beauty "Aurora" means great beauty. He just ran, ran so far away from the girl he will never know. |
Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You guys who are saying it's about a murder are dumb as hell. Phil had an interview about this before and he said he had a rough patch during this time with his wife and divorce. He loved her a lot but after all said and done, he got tired of it and just wanted to get that part of his life over. The line about the drowning and how he wouldn't help is all about his wife's lies to him while they were married saying things were ok and nothing was out of the ordinary. She led him on thinking the marriage was alright but in the end, he got the last laugh. |
Pearl Jam – Corduroy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is actually a song to all Pearl Jam "fans" and others who wish to look like Eddie Vedder. Back in the days when Pearl Jam was popular, Eddie was shown dressed in what they called the "Seattle Grunge Look", but that was his preference and didn't intend to make a fashion statement. People caught on to the fashion and rest is history. Years later, he was shown wearing a Corduroy jacket that he picked up next to nothing in a vintage store. He wore it on t.v. one day and noticed fans wearing designer jackets like his. There is a special commodity the jacket he bought has. It was a nice jacket and he thought it was still usable. Eddie Vedder talked about this and how he hated how people fall into the fashion hype and how designers all of a sudden want to copy his style and make millions off of it. |
Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is actually about a man's love for drugs and his family. He's confused and doesn't want to mix it with the family so he's off to a journey after he gets kicked out to find himself. "She packed my bags last night pre-flight Zero hour nine a.m. And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then I miss the earth so much I miss my wife It's lonely out in space On such a timeless flight" His wife found out about his drug abuse, kicked him out before he was about to do his drugs. He planned on doing it anyways during that morning. So he gets kicked out, drug is wearing out and he starts to realize how much he misses his wife. Space is the space she's given him. Space is also the space away from home, which is the streets, etc. "And I think it's gonna be a long long time Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no I'm a rocket man Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone" He's now on this journey to find himself but for now, his love for drugs is fighting his feelings for his family. He's not the same husband/father he was before drugs. No, he's a rocket man aka "Drug User", getting burnt out from all the abuse "Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone". "Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids In fact it's cold as hell And there's no one there to raise them if you did And all this science I don't understand It's just my job five days a week A rocket man, a rocket man" Mars would be somewhere other than home. Home is earth to him. Mars is elsewhere, somewhere unfamiliar, small in comparison, strange and scary. Wherever he's at, he's suffering and he doesn't want his kids around him to see this. His job = his abuse, he can't stop. It's like a job to him now. |
Sugar Ray – Every Morning Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about a girl cheating on him, but for some reason "somethings got me reeling", he goes back to her, possibly because she keeps seducing him to her "four post bed" but that bed is also used by her other guy "friends", hence the "Halo" and the "Heartache" on her "Four post bed". And the story goes on and on. |
Steely Dan – Do It Again Lyrics | 16 years ago |
All of you have great interpretations but I think it is what it is. The water the guy got killed for was a fancy word for liquor because alcoholics drink it like "Water". |
Asia – Heat Of The Moment Lyrics | 16 years ago |
These are one of the songs that are hard to interpret. It coud have something to do with music in general or a love subject. Either way, great song. Reminds me of the last part of 40 year old virgin, which is one of the greatest movies evar |
Cameo – Word Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There's really no meaning to this song. It's just a fun song about not caring about anything, if you like the music, just dance to it. |
Genesis – Land Of Confusion Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's definitely anti Regan on how he's running things in the U.S. the world in general. |
Alanis Morissette – Ironic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
These are more examples of coincidence than irony, don't you think? |
Joan Jett – Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is all about craving sex. I love this woman! |
Level 42 – Something About You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Apparently, this guy is not over his ex, who's already with another man. He still has feelings, although he made a mistake and now wants her back but can't have her. It is tearing him apart basically. |
Joan Jett – I Love Rock N' Roll Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's funny you guys mention Brittney Spears is covering this song. This song was originally sung by The Arrows, but Joan Jett saw them one time and she asked if she could cover that and they gladly said yes because they didn't care for it too much. So Brittney is covering a song Joan Jett covered. What a god damn idiot. The song meaning to this is pretty much straight forward. It's about her taking a young kid home and having sex with him. But she's doing all the aggressiveness. She was trying to represent women as powerful. |
Loverboy – Working For The Weekend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always feel like dancing when I hear this song :D |
Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Brandon Boyd was actually at the beach on day, alone and writing these lyrics. He was actually thinking about his friends, how he wish they were there with him, enjoying the sun, the waves, etc. This is what I heard from an interview. It's funny how girls misinterpret this song as if Brandon wishes they were there with him. LOL |
Madonna – Borderline Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's actually about a girl having a lot more feelings than her man, but for some reason, the man is pushing her away and she's that close to breaking up with him if he doesn't get the message. It's definitely not about orgasm. That's the dumbest thing i've ever read. |
Rick Springfield – Jessie's Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
lol I remember Mark Wahlberg zoning out to this song while strung out on coke in Boogie Nights |
The Police – Don't Stand So Close To Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's basically about the teacher, without any intentions is the subject to arousal by the girl's advances, but obviously he can't do nothing because he's half her age and a teacher. I think this has something to do with Sting's past. |
The Outfield – Your Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
He's basically cheating on Josie with another "older" woman. It's not about "True Love' come on! |
Blue Öyster Cult – Burnin' For You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is actually about going on the road during tours. |
