Anyone know why 2D is afraid of whales? I think it has something to do with the actual meaning of this. Also, artists don't always say exactly what they mean if you look at Andy Warhol for example everything he said about his art was sarcastic and mocking of his true ideals perhaps you're judging Gorillaz too quick saying there's no environmental concern when you think about it, Gorillaz are a set of characters meant to show a point they aren't precisely the point and shouldn't have a literal meaning So maybe Albarn did say that, what did he mean though? |

To me it's about fake love she doesn't want him but she is settling for him they're with each other because they have to not because they want to the falsity is increased by the images of the plastic tree and the manatee In a dream like atmosphere (along with the sound) that's like a drowsy ideal but is not true |

This is totally different from what all of you are saying but could it be that the ring represents the entire native population first it was taken by "his honor" when he went to the pueblo huts only to be taken and forgotten at the bottom of the sea by johannah or just someone in the present that turquoise and silver ring represents one thousand years but we're so concerned with sloan-kettering (present problems) that we have thrown all the past history and wisdom half of the ring lies with him cause he must shed some of the old wisdom on the present on the surface their songs seem simple but they usually have a strong meaning to them, i just really doubt it's a love story at all |

Against MODERN imperialism highlighted by "go home yankees" the soft subtle life of latin america where all of a sudden these magicians (americans, generally, through privatization and maquillas and so on) they trick people into falling for their tricks meanwhile the people try to continue their lives as if nothing were the matter "el obrero y el estudiante siguen para adelante" putting up with all the things that happen "aguantate" to me it is both a description of the general feeling of latin america, the escence and a protest song. |

A mi me parece que esta cancion no se trata tanto de un tema como de un sentimiento Me parece que la cancion encapsula la esencia de latino america El mundo mas alla siendo una clara referencia a el titulo "Cristobal" en decir que esta hablando de las Americas Pero en si la cancion aspira ser las simplicidad y la belleza de latino america ademas de finalizar con la fuerza de la gente que sigue trabajando y luchando en la vida sin importar la circumstancias. La "berraquera" hispana, por decirlo de una manera. Me parece que de haberse tratado de un tema en si las letras hubieran sido mas narrativas y menos sueltas en forma de palabras. |

well for me its all about being tired of seeing the world be destroyed this way the father may be those that came before us and cause all this to happen maybe even something like the generation that is causing the world to happen the idea of God in this kinda goes away in " i dont wanna pay my fathers debts" cause what debts does God have its all about "the opiate of the masses" compare it to the 60s for example the big issue was that everyone was doped. the hippies were seeing extreme realities while their parents were taking calming drugs and blind to the world around them the parents were being fought by their children through the argument of the vietnam war now in present context everyone is doped with the pill of media no one sees much of anything and all we see with our eyes open is how we are falling deeper and deeper for me its also about wanting it to be quick and painless "world war 3 when are you coming for me" make it happen and make it happen fast because i dont want to realize when it happens i dont wanna be faced of the reality of what happens also "A house on fire or the rising sea?" a question of global warming or war. how will we die? it seems like its one of those two choices we just dont know which will happen first |

i agree with most of myeh man except for the actual marquee moon marquee would mean as those letters that move showing announcements and stuff. with a marquee moon it would mean standing under time as the moon moves across the sky throughout the nightime the song continues to say "just waiting" all marquee moon means is time. |
