Deftones – Mascara Lyrics 11 years ago
The first time I heard this song, I was pretty creeped out at the last line. I remember hearing "It's too bad you're married..." and thinking 'oh maybe he sees that she's tortured and wants to rescue her from her current relationship' ... then he says, in that cold, sad, creepy voice "to me." and it completely changed the meaning of it. It's the twist of the story, so to speak.

Glasvegas – Lots Sometimes Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm in public, almost crying listening to this. That doesn't happen when I'm alone.

Devin Townsend – Night Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a very lush but intense song. The key change at "I'm getting closer now" totally complements the lyrics... a sign of hope in the midst of all the frustration. The line that really got me hooked on this song is "And I love you more than I can say
But I hate you every other way." That's very meaningful and relevant to the emotion of love - it's hard to just separate what you adore and appreciate about a person from things they do and say that you just can't stand. You want all the good but you have to realize that no one's perfect and you aren't going to agree with everything a person does, even your loved ones.

Taylor Swift – Fifteen Lyrics 14 years ago
I'll start with this. I do not like Taylor Swift. I find her voice grating and whiny.

However, I think this song speaks volumes about what happens in high school. I'm a dude and I went to Christian schools from Preschool until I graduated high school. When freshman year started, I knew a lot of nice, innocent girls from long before, and a few I had crushes on even then. When they started giving it up to junior and senior guys, it really made me sad. They became completely different people, not just in their sex lives but in their attitude, and many who were once down to earth became snooty, rejecting their life-long friends. The smart good girls dumbed themselves down and started dressing slutty (as slutty as you can get under a rigid dress code anyways) to get shallow older guys. The partying, drinking, and sleeping around consumed their lives and continued until high school ended. Many got pregnant, some multiple times, and almost all of them got abortions (this stuff spreads at a school of 400 people, believe me). Most of them were cheated on by their handsome football-playing boyfriends and continued dating them anyways since they were their security blankets, so to speak. And at Christian schools, most couples get married only a few short years if not right after high school. Taylor is right; there are much more important things in life than chasing down some jerk who treats you like crap.

If I have a daughter some day, I hope there are artists around who will sing honest and meaningful songs like this one.

David Guetta – Sexy Bitch Lyrics 14 years ago
Of course sexy bitch is disrespectful, as are his comments on her rear-end and her promiscuity. He's trying to find the words to describe her WITHOUT being disrespectful, which you can see is very difficult for him. This song makes perfect sense to me.

T.I. – Whatever You Like Lyrics 14 years ago
Zep, who, seger... sounds like a typical list of "I'm gonna stop listening to bad music and look cool impress my dad and show my friends how mature my music tastes are." Anyway, this song is retarded but hilarious. Is he serious or is this purposeful exaggeration? Know that there is music outside of the 70's classical (sic) that is from "the inner core."

311 – Mindspin Lyrics 15 years ago
This is my favorite 311 song, and I can't do it justice with a lengthy interpretation (also I'm at work :-X). About the 6 years and 7 months, let's do some calculations. I've always been curious about this and have a theory which I will look up right now.
Soundsystem was released October '99, and Music was released March '93 (all this according to wikipedia, so I don't know exactly how accurate it is and I'm too lazy to look it up). 99-93 = six years, 10-3 = seven months. There you have it, 6 years and 7 months =)

311 – Daisy Cutter Lyrics 15 years ago
Nick and p-nut were on Loveline with Dr. Drew and Nick explained that a "Daisy Cutter" is a small bomb used in Vietnam that shot out shrapnel to clear foliage. So, he thinks she's "the bomb." Simple as that. The chorus on this song is unusually heavy for an upbeat poppy ballad, I like it. Plus, who needs political anyways? Every band pours out political song after political song (and badly, at that; just look at Green Day). DTOM was pretty sappy too; Waiting is just pure cheese.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Daphne Descends Lyrics 15 years ago
This song can take on a variety of different view points. First, it can come from a jealous boyfriend who sees his girl drifting away, spending suspicious amounts of time with another guy, losing interest in you ("You love him, and you can't resist"). Guys aren't stupid. They know when this is happening to them, and this song really puts it perfectly.

Or it can come from the outsider himself. I fell for a girl in high school who had a boyfriend, she was really sweet, but completely misguided and sort of depressed. She led me on for a whole year, always talking about how crappy her boyfriend was and how she was in love with me and would bring up ridiculous ideas about how we would run away together (fantastical idealism, what do you expect), constantly breaking up and getting back together with him in the same week/day (typical high school crap) blah blah. I liked to believe what she said but this song spoke what was really going on, what I knew was the truth the whole time. No matter how much of a jerk her boyfriend was, "(she) loved him, and no one else."

Adore was one of those albums that got me through times of extreme teen angst, and I will never forget how therapeutic it really was.

Failure – The Nurse Who Loved Me Lyrics 15 years ago
I sang this song to my girlfriend's tiny little chihuahuah Bella while cradling her, modifying the lyrics of course, and she fell asleep with tears in her eyes. That's how beautiful this song (and my voice) are. I heard the APC version first, then checked out the Failure version and LOVED it, which got me stuck on failure. Thanks Maynard and crew, for getting me hooked on such an amazing band.

Failure – Wet Gravity Lyrics 15 years ago
Those synth drums and guitar swells at the end are induce such a morbidly dark feeling, and if this is about Virginia Wolff's suicide, than this is quite fitting.

Meshuggah – Obsidian Lyrics 16 years ago
I can't believe no one else has commented on this brilliant song. The first few minutes are so soothing and repetitive, when all of the sudden you're bombarded with catastrophic dissonance. I'd pay a million bucks to see this performed live (and maybe 5 minutes longer?) ;) I found a video some art student made on youtube that features this song: http://youtube.com/watch?v=PYnwAfyeZiw
