I agree with the rest of the comments and had a quick look but nobody seems to mention the aslan line. "he's found me, my Aslan" Along with the religious feel of the song tempo and obviously the "hallelujah" it all works nicely together. Aslan being the god figure in the narnia series. Perhaps as well as talking about struggling with homophobia and prejudice he is also idolizing the man he's found and holding him up as his own figurehead of all that is good and protective and juxtaposing him with all the horrendous cases of institutionalized homophobia. |

This song caught me within seconds. My interpretation's quite personal to me (But really, when isn't an interpretation personal). For me, this song is about a girl who will never really let herself have what she wants. Whenever she gets too close she runs away and the speaker knows and understands this, he knows how dark inside her head must be and he loves her regardless of it. He knows that when she attacks him, she's really just trying to hurt herself. And then he goes on to say yes it hurts but i'd rather have this than nothing with someone else. Head up love is telling her to cheer up (obviously) head up, keep your love is reminding her to keep on loving, keep on feeling and not to forget there's good along with the bad. |

Though i don't really know how, the line "Ambulance in driveway" and the get help reference made me think suicide or something of the like but then the line "it's too late, the moment when it runs you over" thinks car accident? Either way, it's beautiful...the first stanza especially i think. |

I love your interpretation though i think the "like we're in a crime scene" would fit in the context quite well, weaving in with the rest of that theme of abuse - she perceives sex as a dirty and wrong thing and so it sort of describes the way she sees it (different to anybody who was wholeheartedly in love with the other). |

you're the king an i'm a lion heart. <3 I don't exactly know what this song is talking about, they're an amazing band with such great talent. I could actually sit and listen to their music only for months straight. My impression anyway is this: There's a relationship and it's being sung by who i perceive to be the 'strong' one of the relationship. She's saying that there are people worrying about the couple and she's being strong and saying "You know what, they should worry, we're going to go out there and we're going to love it". I could possibly see the song being about a gay relationship in the sense that the town isn't very accepting of the couple (gay or any relationship people don't approve too!) and she is saying that they're going to stick it out and not run away from the issues. The main line, i think she's saying that he's more important than anybody else and that she's brave enough to look after him and stick it out. I love it. |

I'm sorry, but i really don't see it as a sad song at all. Everyone is going to die at one point and all he is saying is that when he dies he hopes he gets to hang around rather than just move on. He's saying he's interested to see where the world goes after he's dead - a natural curiousity i think. When he says now i've become a ghost - he's realising that it may have been a bit hasty and that it would be better if he had people to share this experience with (again, a natural human experience i think) Beyond the superficiality of it, i (personally) see someone who just wants to see beyond his life, wants to know what will happen to him and his memory, to his family and to the entire world. I think it's a song that taps into everybody's natural curiousity about what comes after. |

The impression i got was that the speaker feels the need to retreat back to the computer is all, that they see safety in their 'circuitboard city" rather than out on the town. In a nutshell, things go wrong and they retreat back away from people. People are shit but you can disassociate from them on the computer. It just feels like a song about retreating for me. I agree with the idea of the guy talking about a girl who he's met and they've slept together and the night was incredible etc. and he's worried that in the morning things will change (like things so often do in the morning light)and he wants her to know that it doesn't matter what light it's in, he wants her to be with him. Perhaps the girl has a tendancy to run from commitments and he's saying that if she has to run, then he'll run with her. Maybe it's like, if talking about it makes the girl scared then they'll just run and not talk about why they're running. He'll do what it takes to keep her with him...sort of? i'm not sure how clear that was, it's so hard to explain the sort of feeling this song triggers in me. |

I love this song so much, just a great song to listen to when you need to calm down and feel better. I could listen to the instrumental part a hundred times over. Although i don't normaly like christian song (usually because they're overtly 'God loves you, you love god' type stuff) There are some bands and songs which allow you to form your own interpretation should you want to, for example switchfoot and this song. I did actually think there were religious connotations before i read any of the comments above because of a few lines, the main one beings 'using the stars as guide' which immediately put the image of the three wise men in my head. I don't know if i'm right or just having a brain explosion but everytime i head that line i do see that. Which in a way is a beautiful image regardless of the religion. Dispatch is an amazing band and i would love them to come to Australia, they would be well worth seeing live. |

I might be completely wrong here, but i was thinking that it wasn't necessarily about a breakup, but of like a friendship. It might just be me but it hits a spot with me in that respect. Sort of like Shes in a friendship where they are really close but its constantly on her shoulders, she picks up the pieces of her friend and its getting to a point where her friend is attacking her (for whatever reason) and shes just at this point where she wants to fix it and help her friend yet again but this time it's just gone way too far. So the flood gates open but nothing comes out I�m feeling no relief in my head, just doubt but my heart keeps telling me, hold your ground you�ll never learn a thing if you bail out now its like it has piled up and piled up and eventually when the flood gates open she can't bring herself to fight back, all she can manage to do is to hold her ground, not give in like she has time and time again. In short an emotionally taxing relationship where the speaker is bearing the brunt and the friend doesn't realise what she is doing to her. "'Am I prepared to pull it out from under your trusting stare?" i dunno thats just my feeling. it makes me feel like crying sometimes because its so heavy. |

some one else might of already said this but i disagree, when i heard the song i thought it was meant to be sort of ironic (if thats used in the right way) as in people will sit there and mock god and make "good god jokes" but when it gets hard things get a bit more sombre and people pray to him and start to take the whole idea a bit more seriously. If your at a funeral your not likely to hear someone sit there and make fun of the religious side of the affair, and in a war your more likely to take a religious approach even if its just for something to do. the whole idea of people taking things for granted untill these thngs are gone and then immediately turning around and blaming the very entity they were just mocking. and "laughing at" |

tells almost perfectly the story of my brother and my best friend (long tsory!) they went out for a year nd a half and it was perfect, they were gorgeous together but the girl just doesnt know her own head and suffers from multiple things that eventually broke up the relationship (depresssion, panic attacks etc.). they took a break, got back together 6 months later. and then broke up again about three months after that. to this day they both say that one day they will get married, just not right now. so that line "and I always thought I would end up with you, eventually" says it all. i think to a degree this song just means that there is someone who just knows he will end up with this girl but she needs to mature and have some experiences so that she knows (finally) who she is and stop changing to suit the situation. its probably just me but the song has such a bittersweet feeling. |

The version of this song i have begins with someone (forgive me for not knowing who) asking if they can "smoke in here" Just a quick thought was the irony of this, with the song referencing drugs, and how they are "killing" him you could also if you wanted see this sort of thing as a comment. With Smoking often being a leisure activity (at least to begin with), and how such a large amount of people do it regardless of the endless anti smoking campaigns. its the same as drugs merely legal. (I myself am a smoker so this isnt an attack, and i understand that the singers do actually smoke as well as previous drug use and as far as i can tell heavy drinking.) whether its deliberate or not it does serve as a highly ironic statement to be in the begining of this song in particular. i love Modest Mouse, though their as old as me its a sound that's just timeless. I only wish i had looked up more of their songs previously instead of just being happy with dashboard and world at large. Cant wait for them to tour Australia again soon, i imagine it would be an amazing concert. |

i think its a reference to the fact hat this always happens. you know when someone disapoints you or makes you feel stupid and you say that thats the last time it will happen. but then it happens again. "Annie waits for the last time Just the same as the last time" so its like everytime this happens she tells herself its the last time... again and again and again. |
