The first verse is a close paraphrase of a C.S. Lewis quote from Mere Christianity:
"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."
This is the whole premise of the song, that we are not made for this world so we will hope and wait for the day of the Lord, which we are at the dawn of.
