Beautiful song! Second best on the Hourglass album, after Saw Something. I think it's very straightforward... Sex, maybe drugs? Classic Depeche Mode style, IMO, but still very Dave. |

I don't understand why everyone associates the word fetish with something negative, something perverse... A fetish is just a preference, to put it simply. I have a DM fetish. *shrug*
But, yes, it seems the overwhelming consensus here is that the song at least partially speaks of the singer's fetish about this dress, or even just the girl. |

I don't think either of you are right or wrong on the meaning of this song's wonderful lyrics. Often cited as one of DM's best older songs, it's meaning is probably what you make of it... like the vast majority of their works. |

It make sence what you said tho, that Martin didn't help wright this, for the longest time I just thought they all outgrew being gay......I mean look at the way those boys dressed, especially Martin. So many times they would sing a love song and then say the word "she" in reference to the object of effection and I'd be thinking "uh.......she? .....you sure? But I guess those guys got married"
Yeah, they're all straight! Martin and Dave have kids for sure, and Dave is on wife 3 I think? You also need to sit back and look at their style considering the times and the venues they were playing. |

Well, yeah, that's how Vince Clark wrote... his words were merely random phrases scribbled on a page, in most cases. He's openly admitted this! But you figure his method yielded a few good songs at least... I have to agree with all of you though that this track is probably one of the most gay, random and un-lyrical songs ever! But it still makes me smile when I hear it! |

I don't think a cover could ever, EVER do this song justice. It's perfect how it is, one of DM's most amazing releases. I'm not too keen on your idea that it's about AIDS, mmm...martin, but I won't deny it if it's true. :) I'm going to agree with the other's that it's purely an emotional based song. |

It's NOT about heroin! This album was released after he was out of rehab, and they started anew. I agree with the theory that it IS about a relationship, just like "Can't Get Enough". Two of my favorite songs of all time. |
