Dustin Kensrue – Of Crows and Crowns Lyrics

@[frojabotta:6700]
Dustin has written many songs with references to the ebb and flow of tides and going out to sea, and I've always taken those past songs to speak to his having to leave his family while on tour ("Atlantic", "Open Water", "The Whaler"...there may be more). It seems that this song brings resolution to that lifestyle, his feet are rooted beneath rock and he is no longer a captive to the tide. |

Sonnets don't need to be in iambic pantameter, there are different sorts of meters that can be used. And yes, I realize this response is to a 4 year old post lol. |

Thrice – The Weight Lyrics

@helpfromspace
i never thought about this song that way, but i think it can totally apply. Love doesn't always have to be expressed in a romantic way, Sam's loyalty to Frodo through thick and thin is a remarkable example of love between friends.
that's the cool thing about Dustin's lyrics, they have different levels and layers of meaning. He may have written this song for his wife, but he wrote it in a way that can be interpreted universally.
"Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment." - this might be my favorite line |

Eminem – Love The Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna) Lyrics

i like how eminem emphasizes the lines, "Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is I love you too much to walk away though". he kindof sounds like he strays from rapping and starts singing. i like that style |

Alpha Rev – New Morning Lyrics

i think this songs about waking up and living life the way its meant to be lived. be free, don't let money or society tell you what to appreciate or how to act. experience things that move your soul. i think the line, "have you heard the mona lisa?" is trying to explain that you don't need to experience beautiful things the way people expect you to. (i.e. using the word "heard" instead of "seen")
wake up and live your life. |

Flogging Molly – The Wanderlust Lyrics
|
the word wanderlust is derived from german, wander meaning to hike and lust meaning to desire. Literally it translates a desire or passion to hike, but taken figuratively it means an urge to travel. I think the line "Do you still walk the streets at night? With the wanderlust you fight" perfectly describes the struggle of having a strong urge to go around the world and explore life, yet having to deal with leaving great friends and familiar homes. |

Coheed and Cambria – The Crowing Lyrics

the burn your wings has everything to do with ambelina. ambelina was a prise that was cast out of the sisterhood in order to protect claudio. her wings and hair were burnt off, making her no longer a prise, but still more than human. but like eternityawaits said, here wings weren't burnt off as a punishment, but just as a way to seperate her from the rest of the prise. |

Thrice – Backdraft Lyrics
|
i love how great of representation of a backdraft this song is. i'm a firefighter and while i've never been in a building thats backdrafted (thank god!), this song reminds me of a story that my chief told me about. Some suicidal person doused there basements bathroom in gasoline and lit the room and themselves on fire. the fire spread through the basement, and filled the house with intense heat and smoke. however, the windows didn't autovent themselves (i.e. break from the pressure) and the fire ended up starving itself of oxygen. a few days later the neighbors called the police out of concern for this guy because they hadn't seen him in a while, and they said the windows looked like they had been painted over. The police got the fire department over and when they entered through the front door the house erupted in flames. a smoldering fire that practically died out on its own turned into a roaring structure fire. |

Taking Back Sunday – Where My Mouth Is Lyrics

@MRJawbreakingEquilibrium- the drug referenced in the song is cocaine...."until i couldn't breathe through my nose." but who cares what drug he was using, the important thing about this song was how he reflects on his decision to abuse drugs and push his friends away just to prove a point. i think he realizes that he had the world in the palm of his hands, and he let it slip through the cracks of his fingers. |

Grateful Dead – Ripple Lyrics

this song was played at a funeral for my friend. well it wasn't his funeral, it was just a kindof rememberance ceremony. He was a great musician, and so are his friends, so they played this song in his honor. It was really fitting, and it makes me remember being in that white church with the whole town. I miss him a whole lot

The Ivoryton Piano Factory – ESRT Page 14 Lyrics

this song was written by one of the best musicians i've ever known. i was fortunate enough to have been able to play and jam with him when we were kids. he got mixed up in the wrong things, and died this past september. there isnt a day that goes by where i don't expect to run into him in the hall or in town. i miss him a lot, but whenever i listen to this song i feel connected to him in a way more than memory.

Thrice – Atlantic Lyrics

to me i get the idea that its about two people who never actually met face to face, but have always had a connection together. the line "tin cans and string for years is all that we've known" talks about this distanced relation ship. the rest of the song is about the awesome reuniting of these people. i guess u could take this religiously as some people mentioned, but my first impression was of maybe of a father/daughter or husband/wife relationship. |
