This song obviously alludes to Andrew's bout with leukemia "I survived", "I'm alive", etc. But it also has a universal theme to it, about finding inner-peace, that you can't live in the past, but it is tough to sometimes keep living, but it will get better. You will find the "light in the dark". This reminds me of "Watch the Sky" the bonus track off of Something Corporate's North. It also reminds me of this quote by Andrew that I have part of on my facebook: "The sun rose for all of us today but for me it meant more than most sunrises of my near 24 years. It meant that this year had past and a new one had begun. It meant that the wires were undone and the scars were just scars and yes; that it's time to move on. In this year I have seen dark places and I have seen some places flooded with light that I never knew existed. I have walked to the door of death and never felt more alive and I have learned something that is inherent whether we chose to live knowing it or not. That we are just pieces of this crazy universe, floating through space like every other piece of this crazy universe. You don't have to push or pull or fight or win, the struggle is illusory. The chorus is the most important part of the song and you can get the meaning from it: Little minds let little games burn big old dreams with little flames, and you don’t think I understand. Little holes in parachutes won’t leave you falling, if they do, it’s because you want to land. This just means that the little, petty things can kill a relationship and that they shouldn't, because the little, petty things are like holes in a parachute and you don't have to fail with someone if you truly don't want to if there are minor things in the way. |

i also read a review of this song that i really agree with and how its about how the person in the song got sick of life. THe most important lines are: Away with these nightmares Away with suburbia Shakedown away You marry a role and You give up your soul til you break down Nightmares and suburbia are parallel. Isn't that the American dream--to live in suburbia, be married, etc. But it is mundane and it is just fucked up how monotonous life became. That is why the person in the song had to kill her husband--she needed to do something drastic. This is because we "marry a role" and don't always do what we want with life, and this role becomes us and we can't change it until it gets the best of it. This is why we give up our soul--we just meet the expectations of others. Thus to sum this up it is about how suburbia and this notion of the American dream is unrealistic and far from perfect and sometimes you need to do something drastic. |

This is my favorite song by The Starting Line. I'm surprised there aren't more comments. I think to some degree this rings true for us all. A person can have all the friends in the world, but if they have no one that loves them on that higher level, I think you can be the loneliest person in the world. I love this verse: Sometimes when there is no one To love you back all the time When you're in need And desperate to fall asleep Ain't it wild? Oh, aren't you tired? Oh, isn't it making you lose your mind? Because it is so true. When you are going through a rough patch, all your troubles seem to plague you when you are trying to sleep (which consequently compound your problems, because you aren't getting enough sleep on top of everything else), but you just keep thinking of how it seems everyone else has someone except you and you are alone. Sometimes it is worse when you are thinking about the people you missed your opportunity with or had in the past. A very simple, yet nice song. |

This is just a nice song about not giving up on life, and that it will eventually get better, but we have to try and not just sit around waiting for good things to happen. I particularly like the lines: "Golden smile, you got style That they can't take away" for some reason. I can't wait for the CD to come out! |

This song seems to be about a person who doesn't want to commit to a relationship. "You don't have any intentions Of finishing what you have started" This person puts on the facade of wanting something, but the speaker knows that her intentions are not there. Other lyrics that support this are: "You know all the games that you play" These games just go along with not wanting a real relationship. "But there's always some reservation You need control Like strings on a puppet Learning how to love it" The reservation is not being able to control everything coupled perhaps with the thought that the grass is always greener. |

Specific to this song though, he actually had feelings for the girl and it hurt him that it had absolutely no meaning, it was not special and it just confused him because, does she have feelings for him or was she just drunK? I think this has happened to everyone. For me, it was just a bad experience because I actually liked the girl and didn't want to take advantage, but she just said it'd be alright, obviously in the end it wasn't. It is actually kind of a sad song. |

This is such a well written song and I love the irony that the tempo is so upbeat. This just describes the process that everyone goes through after having their heart broken. When he says "And wish that that was me" you feel like that everytime you see a happy couple together. It just hurts to see that. Every girl you talk to you start to just think, is she someone I could have something with? And then just get lost in these types of fantasies. "The loneliness building with each passing day But I'm getting used to it You have to get used to it" This is probably the saddest part, as even if you have friends and seemingly are alright you aren't and there is always this lonely void that is hard to explain, and sadly you just learn to live with it. After a while you try to be someone you aren't do a degree. I know I did that, go out and get wasted and try to pick up girls, but I just realized one night that this was not me and that it is easy to fall into just drinking and porn and other stuff, but that really does not fill that void in your life, and it does hurt. Unfortunately, loneliness is something that is hard to cure, particularly when it is loneliness of the heart. |
