IAMX – Lolita Lyrics 15 years ago
It's a song from SP4 - the fourth Sneaker Pimps album, which never got a proper release. As well as the electrified version (with all the sampling/synths) an acoustic version also exists.

IAMX – President Lyrics 16 years ago
This extract comes from an interview with chris:

“For all you lonely boys, I will be president. / In all you sons of men, I can be accident.” Care to elaborate a bit on the chorus of “President”?

Chris Corner: It is my small fantasy of leading all misogynists into an early grave. It was a weak, mixed moment of empathy and deep hatred for stupid violent powerful men that never had love and reason. I am also guilty. Fuck them, fuck me and bury us all.

Sneaker Pimps – Lightning Field Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this song is about hating yourself so much that you come to desire your own destruction. I think it is about wanting to change every single aspect of yourself. (‘Strike me down/ I’ll be everything I’m not).

This theme carries on through the song; the subject of the song has such low self esteem that they feel that their existence is an infringement on other peoples’ lives. The subject feels that they do not deserve any responsibilities, and that all decisions that they make will be wrong. (Wash the questions off my hands/I’m the fate in no-one’s plans.)

Thanks for reading my interpretation…please bear in mind that I think that Sneaker Pimps’ music is bordering on perfection, and that nothing in this comment is intended to be offensive.

IAMX – I Like Pretending Lyrics 16 years ago
I personally think that this song is exploring our society’s dependence on faith and religion. I think that the chorus (‘Are we pretending? I like pretending.) is a comment on how humans are reluctant to accept their probable solitude. I think that the idea of being alone in life scares many people, and Chris Corner is drawing attention to these shared irrational insecurities. I think this song is commenting on how people are willing to deceive themselves in order to avoid confronting their deep insecurities (in the context of religion).

I think that Chris Corner’s lyrics are amazing, poetic and memorable. I think that the phrase ‘Symbiotic self indulgence’ is a comment on how people can be motivated to indulge others if they believe that they can benefit. Linking this to the religious them of the song, it could be interpreted that people feel that they benefit from devoting time and money to religion, as they are then assured of the presence of a deity.

Another notable phrase is: ‘If we dig deep/the circuitry burnt out, bends/into neurotic repetition.’ I think that this could refer to the fact that if people are truly exposed, their deepest insecurities (isolation and solitude) are revealed.

Thanks for reading my interpretation…please bear in mind that I think that IAMX’s music is bordering on perfection, and that nothing in this comment is intended to be offensive.
