I know this album is supposed to have apocalyptic themes. That, and Sufjan typically will refer to the bible and biblical stories in his songs. This verse seems likes it's referring to the crucifixion and how Jesus bled and died for his people who wanted nothing to do with him. How could you run from me now? Although the crucifixion theme may not be for the entire song, there are a lot of elements that seem to be referring to it. |
