The Moody Blues – Nights In White Satin Lyrics 10 years ago
My Interpretation starts from the line "Just what you want to be, you will be in the end" and he goes on to say how much he loves her

To me the song is all about letting go of the one you love so she can have her own life when you realise that your attachment will prevent her from having that life

The songs starts with the double entendre, "Nights in white satin, never reaching the end" then the "Letters I've written, never meaning to send" are his Knights in White Satin. These Knights would have told her what he can't say anymore, just what the truth is, because he really does love her

The rest of the song fits the pattern. Couples can't understand what he is going through, friends tell him he shouldn't have let her go, and he realises he never realised her beauty

Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale Lyrics 15 years ago
I think both the correct lyrics and meaning of this song have already been given on this forum.

Basically this is just "Girl leaves Guy" story

It starts in a Pub late and night, and she has already told him she is leaving so he has got very drunk. Later back at his apartment, she explains why she is leaving him.

The "Turned Cartwheels across the floor" indicates the were dancing, the "Crowd called out for More" indicates it was to live music and the band had stopped

When they called out for another drink, the waiter brought a tray to clear up the empty glasses because the Pub had stopped serving drinks.

The "Room was humming harder as the ceiling flew away" tells us that he had overindulged in Drinks/Drugs

Much later they are back at his apartment, and her face turns a "whiter shade of pale" as she has to explain to him why she is leaving him

(The reference to the "Millers Tale" is a baudy tale from Chaucer indicating in this case he was putting the hard word on her to sleep with him again)

There is no reason for leaving him, as she loves him. If he had played his cards differently, he could have let her go away to College but he is too blinded by love to understand this.

So for those who need a bit more detail for the final verse, just assume it is ALL spoken by her.

"The Truth is Plain to See"

"That I wandered through my Playing Cards" - indicates that he considered the options for their future together, but chose the one that stopped her moving away ...

"And wouldn't let her be one of sixteen Vestal Virgins heading for the Coast" ... was the future he had denied her. He didn't want her to move away to college which she saw as some sort of ultimate achievement she could have made with her life

And although his eyes were open, they might just as well been closed because in his blind manic love for her, he stopped her moving away and ruined her life.

Neil Diamond – Solitary Man Lyrics 16 years ago
Well until he can find someone faithful he will remain a Solitary Man ...

Such a simple song, but so powerful
