Gang Gang Dance – Afoot Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is so otherworldly. Im going to India for a month later this year, so in preparation I'll just listen to this song everyday.

Fleet Foxes – Tiger Mountain Peasant Song Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the narrator, at least in the first verse, is talking about someone dear to him who diead, maybe "Jesse":
Through the forest
Down to your grave
Where the birds wait
And the tall grasses wave
They do not
know you anymore

I feel like this paints a scene where a dear friend's burial site is forgotten, as grass grew back in and birds land there, "They don't know you anymore"

The rest of the lyrics seem to suggest that the narrator thinks he will follow in the same fate as his friend, or, that somehow he is responsible for his friend's death "I don't know what I have done/ I'm turning myself into a demon" and that he is awaiting his punishment/death

When does he sing the last half of the lyrics? During the shrieking at the end?

wow emilykate, what a thorough analysis. I agree on all your points. Maybe he is suggesting that christianity/religion is a cloud, obscuring the already "failing light" (truth, which is hard to make out/find).

I dont know, it seems rather hopeful overall. Its just that last stanza that makes things unclear.

I like where this song is on the album. It seems to brighten the dreary mood set by the rest of the songs a bit.

Between the Buried and Me – White Walls Lyrics 16 years ago
freeradicals1, i definetly think the piano at the end is the same chord progression as the "floating towards the sun part" in Sun of Nothing. Its more drawn out though.

Between the Buried and Me – Ants of the Sky Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is definetly my fav on the new album. It incorporates sooo many musical styles and the transitions are tight. Power metal, thrash, metal core, jazz fusion, arena rock (with cowbell!) a little spac rock and a melancholy/dreary guitar part that sounds alot like opeth (melodic metal?).

I love everything about this song, from the spacey and brooding intro to the explosive chorus. My fav off of Signify.

I'm a huge PT fan and love all their work, but somehow this quiet little gem is the one song my mind goes back to over and over, so i guess its my fav PT song. ITs so beautiful and melancholy, and I know that the song is about the David in the deadwing story but its hard to keep myself detached from hearing my own name in the first few seconds of the song, it sometimes creeps me out but sometimes makes the song more personal

Blackfield – Cloudy Now Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought the line "but I don't see either because I live across the street" was about how close we in relation to one another, at a physical and emotional level, but how our indifference/ inward focus leaves us miles apart.

The Pineapple Thief – God Bless The Child Lyrics 16 years ago
These lyrics are so minmalist, but to the point. This song is surprisingly light in mood and detached for its subject matter.
