Beyoncé – Run the World (Girls) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't even see it as a "we're better than you" song so much as a "We're running the world too, now, so ya better watch it" song. |
Sufjan Stevens – You Are the Blood (Castanets cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
What's the relevance of this? Is there a post on your link relating to this song? If so, you should probably point out which so people don't have to dig and guess. |
Editors – Munich Lyrics | 14 years ago |
where'd you hear that from? |
Taio Cruz – Break Your Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Where's the Ludacris breakdown? Someone should either add it or make another song page for that version. |
of Montreal – Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse Lyrics | 14 years ago |
When I first read the lyrics, I thought 'Nina Twin' was the personification of drugs he was taking and was hoping they would fix him since he felt he couldn't completely sort out his problems himself. I had no clue he was referring to some chick, haha. I'm starting to get irked that people don't read the comments before they post, or only one page. (I know there are sometimes a lot of pages, but you just gotta suck it up) The third page is like nothing but comments already said or uninformed comments. Oh well. Obviously if you're reading this though, you've done that. Good job! Haha. |
Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Anyone else think her fear of sex is actually her fear of enjoying being promiscuous TOO much and never making the deep connection she craves? |
Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Acutally, I think the "bf is just like her dad" is in reference to girls often dating boys like their fathers instead of boys they are actually compatible with. She's bored in her relationship, and was only continuing it because she felt like she had to. She probably feels trapped. In the meantime, she's been doing guys secretly on the side, all given common Latino names in the song to inspire that almost movie quality "exotic, forbidden, foreign love", but has had no real connection to any of them. That, or she feels like her boyfriend is more like a close family member than a partner. No spark. Now she's gotta choose between having secret promiscuous sex and feeling miserable about it, or not having secret sex and being miserable anyway. |

The Presets – Kicking & Screaming Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, while we're on topic, you might want to edit "sun's" to "suns". |
The Presets – Kicking & Screaming Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's "refused to sink", not "sing". That's what I heard, and I think it makes a bit more sense. |
Rasputina – Girls' School Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Seconded. That would be sooo awesome. |
Billy Idol – Rebel Yell Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Does anyone know if the "hear" in "I need you hear by me" is purposely spelled that way, or a typo? Anyone have cd material or an official source? |
Britney Spears – 3 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
How is this derogatory? I see nothing like that in the lyrics at all... And what's all this about threesomes being bad? I know many of your parents may tell you that, but it's really something you need to decide on your own. I, for one, see nothing wrong with it. And I really hope this argument isn't solely from religion and morals. I'm glad there are more writers being straightforward about sex in their songs, instead of it being a side "interpretation". Sure, it's nice to be teased with ambiguity here and there, but, it's nice to hear songs like this again! I love it! AND it's catchy! I'm really loving new Brittany. |
Röyksopp – Tricky Tricky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It does, which is probably why they chose her voice and lyrical style for this song. Yet, it still has the smoothness and great instrumentation from Royksopp we expect. An amazingly beautiful union. Definitely one of my favorite songs. |
Röyksopp – Tricky Tricky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
originally, i thought it was about gender equality, but it didn't seem quite right... Now that I reread it, I feel like it's about psychological stress, and also mocks those who try to help but do so in an ineffective, distant manner, and in general just about the struggle of losing your mind. However, this is still from basic impressions only. I could put a lot more effort into interpreting and stuff, but I've gotten tired of worrying so much about what lyrics could possibly mean, I'm taking a break, I guess, haha. Kinda working out for me. Sometimes first impressions of lyrics are the best... and letting my mind relax and wander is making it a lot more enjoyable listening to music, especially to such emotional and abstract pieces as Karin Andersson's works. |
David Guetta – Sexy Bitch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also; second on the "low down" question. And thirdly, the lyrics are "neighborhood whore". It just sounds like a bit like "ho" because he drops the ~r sound a bit. |
David Guetta – Sexy Bitch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
What? You guys are crazy. I don't think "sexy bitch" is disrespectful at all. It has much more oomph than "sexy chick" or something else "cleaner" anyway, and fits better with the music. I'd much rather be called a sexy bitch than a whore. Hell, I'd be pretty damn complimented. But that's just me. |
Queens of the Stone Age – Go With The Flow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Anyone else here thinks it's "loses more than hesitate" instead of what's written here? To me, "lose is more than hesitate" sounds like losing is worse than hesitating (since they both have negative connotations here), but "loses more than hesitate" sounds like he'd rather lose than hesitate, which not only matches the previous statement "i want a new mistake", but it follows the theme he'd rather not play it safe and try for love and a relationship instead of not trying at all, and forever wondering what could have been. |
Mindless Self Indulgence – Prescription Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the "I'm the doctor/I'm the patient" line is the speaker saying he's basically playing doctor for himself. Most people who abuse prescriptions don't quite get them "legally", or they manipulate the system or their doctor to get them. Thus, he's going around our standards and traditional doctor's advice on taking those drugs saying "I'M the doctor. It's ultimately MY decision on my body, and I say I need these drugs; I don't care what you know-it-all guys think." |
Ludo – Go-Getter Greg Lyrics | 14 years ago |
LOL that is so awesome. |
Franz Ferdinand – Fade Together Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Ah, I misread. I thought it was the girl's passport. That actually works better with my description. He probably visited her in Berlin after she left, and the Berlin wall was probably reflecting how he was so passionate about seeing her, it was as if he jumped the wall for her. "Berlin, I love you" - he loves Berlin, because that's where his girl is, and where his feelings are strongest, "I'm starting to fade" - but it's too late, his feelings are fading and he can't muster up the drive to see her again. He doesn't want to. And he probably keeps the passport in her room to keep her stuff separate, so he doesn't have to see them and think about her. |
Franz Ferdinand – Fade Together Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I always imagined it as the first comment stated, but slightly differently. Instead of a break up, and wanting to forget an old love, both of them, for whatever reasons, are forced to live physically far apart, and it's almost happening by force. I know that seems like the "too obvious" interpretation, but it really does remind me of that situation. Everyone in a distance-relationship wants to make it work so bad because they were so happy with each other, and they try so hard, but eventually, two things happen: you get so miserable wishing the person was here, you almost wish you were never together to begin with, and want all of these emotions and feelings to "fade". Then secondly, after not seeing each other for forever, no matter how hard you try your mind instinctively starts forcing you to forget your feelings. When he goes to her room and looks at her old photograph, it doesn't invoke the same feeling anymore, and it scares him, but he's mixed. Part of him is glad, because the sadness is going away too. This happens a lot to me with close friends who move away. I don't want to forget my friends, but it really does feel like a nice photograph fading with time. I'm very grateful my best friend Nikki found me in college after we separated. As for the Berlin wall, I'm not really sure. But with this context, it could just be emphasizing the physical and emotional distance; a surprising amount of couples and families were actually separated when the wall was put up, and were legally not allowed to see each other. |
The Dresden Dolls – Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm not too good at this stuff, which is why I frequent this website (haha), but this is my guess. It's just imagery showing there was still an effect to their actions even though on the surface, it didn't appear so ("He jabbed a needle in my neck/Erasing all the evidence" = needle punctures are hard to see afterward). It isn't always obvious at a glance if a candle has been lit, especially if it was for a short time, but matchsticks left over nearby can be a dead give away. On the surface, she made herself seem perfectly fine, as if "nothing happened", but deep inside, physically and emotionally, the evidence remained, leaving her feel conflicted and confused. |
Rammstein – Ohne Dich (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
aw well poo. i thought this song was a lot more meaningful than this. i thought this was about a guy who's true love died, and because of it, just... dies. no suicide, he just loves her so much, he can't live without her, and dies. that's how i wanna go. XD i believe Death Cab For Cutie wrote a similar song. |
Zebrahead – His World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I like Orange's and Twilight's description. I also kinda agree with Jorda. In fact, I didn't think the song really matched Sonic at all, until I thought of the song as not about Sonic (like in the other games), but from Sonic's perspective telling others to not be too careful, afterall, he's a carefree person and takes things as they come. The line to me "When you leave without a net you'll find, They won't be there all the time" meant if you're overly cautious and worry a lot and always have to have your "safety net", you'll eventually have to realize the world isn't full of safety nets, and you'll have to learn to live without them. Then the repeated phrases "Watch your step!" are the annoying, worry-some people who are always concerned with what may happen instead of what is happening right now, and "Don't turn around" is Sonic saying when times are tough, don't fret about what's behind you; just focus on what's ahead. And again, this song as a whole is about breaking free and doing things your own way, and not letting anything or anyone get in your face. |
They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse in Your Soul Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I was thinking (in addition to the whole night lite thing) that the greater picture of this song is that person the night lite is talking about is rather shy and introverted, or maybe just "odd", and because of that, he feels very lonely. He thinks no one should be lonely and hates how people often are cold and closed off to one another because they're afraid to get hurt, adding to the loneliness problem. He knows a girl, who he really likes, but she is one of those closed off people, and he wishes she would open up to (put a birdhouse in your soul -- a symbol of selfless welcoming), because he's been watching her, and secretly looking out for her (night lite), and knows she is a great person that anyone would be lucky to know. He also wants her to "leave the nite lite on inside the birdhouse in your soul", saying that she should be open up to not just him, but everyone else, and share the love. |
The Presets – Girl and the Sea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
wow, i really like your description, stoff. i never thought of that, and it fits incredibly well! when i first heard the song, i thought maybe it was about a girl in an abusive home, and she's finally old enough to leave and live on her own, so she "escapes". However, some of the lyrics just didn't seem to match up, like how the guy (the dad) really cared about her and stuff, and it especially confused me after I saw the video. so then instead of a father and daughter, i thought it might be about a boy and a girl living in a rough neighborhood or a bad environment, and the guy originally found her, alone and possibly in need of help, and "took care of her" in a way. Eventually, they got really close and he grew to really care about her, but when she finally had an option to get away and possibly move to better place, he decides he'd rather give her up so she could be happier instead of forcing her to stay here with him, unaware that she actually truly cares about him too. |
Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Does anyone even read the last page anyway? lol. |
Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There are so many good descriptions! The power of song is that we can often see ourselves or others in them. It makes you realize things you never thought of before, or knew but just didn't see it yet. I based a lot of this off after I saw the video. The singer is, and has for the longest time, constantly worried over life, all the time. He worries about what he is doing now, what he has done in the past, and what he will be doing. He worries about every single decision he makes. Worrying so much has caused him to go through life so quickly, almost too fast, and he's caught in a daze (first verse). But, it's that same worrying that causes him to lose all that stuff later (second verse). His spazzing has caused him to make mistakes and push people away, and he's desperate to find out what he's doing wrong, not realizing he's going the wrong way about it. There were those few, good moments he sees, but all the rest of the past in his life just seem to muddle together. It's all the same. Finally, in a self-destructing crisis, he starts asking why does he love that beautiful house? What's so special about it? He questions why he didn't go that strange highway. Was it really worth not traveling? Was it really worth taking the safe route? Is he going through life right? Or wrong? And then he realizes it's all that worrying whether he's right or wrong at every point in his life that is bogging him down. All his happiest moments are when he doesn't worry. Everything is more enjoyable. He's happy, at peace. When you spend all your time worrying, what time is left for you to enjoy? He feels dumb that it was just one little thing that was bothering him. He feels like he wasted a part of his life because of it. What have I done?! He doesn't care anymore. He doesn't want to worry anymore, it's just a waste of the time. He removed the water from the bottom of the ocean, and found what was underneath, what had been there the whole time, what had been the most important. Time isn't holding us, Time isn't after us - Time isn't stopping us from doing what we like. We don't have to run from the past. The good times will always stay with you, and the crappy times are just as valuable, because they make you learn, develop you into who you are. You see that there are no such things as true mistakes. We have all the time in the world to do things if we JUST DO THEM, and not worry. He finally found his river, his happy niche (end of video). Don't over-analyze life - it will drive you insane! Do what you wanna do, and enjoy it! I want to say so much more about this song! But, I think you guys can fill in the gaps. I gather this description from personal experiences, and from watching/knowing other people (several of them my friends). Sometimes I wish they would realize this, but I think I know eventually they will, whether it's now or through an experience like the narrator had. |
Editors – All Sparks Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I kinda agree with JonR, only instead of referring to someone who is actually very intelligent, I think it refers to someone who believes he is brighter and more clever than everyone else, but may not be necessarily. The person is probably very egotistical and condescending towards others, forcing their "brilliant" ideas onto others or acting upon schemes without properly examining the potential consequences. Eventually, though, the tables turn for this person, and the people he's oppressed or abused finally shun him away. So, this song is a warning to this person to think about what you're doing and don't get all caught up in just yourself, otherwise you may end up just being a spark that burns out. |
