When it talks about an "A1 body", it may well be a reference to the marking system at Glasgow University, where Stuart studied; an A1 is the absolute highest mark you can get. |

In the new version, "fucking loved it" is changed to "really loved it", and "walk to Jazz's house" is changed to "run to Jazz's house", and a few other minor changes. |

I think the "bedroom dancing" may be a reference to the Le Tigre song Eau d'Bedroom Dancing. Gareth is often seen wearing Bikini Kill t-shirts, so it's not a stretch to assume he likes Le Tigre too. |

The 'don't confront me with my failures' line is from 'These Days' by Nico/Jackson Browne; the guitar part of this track sounds similar to the Browne song, so I would guess it's an intentional reference. |

Why would it be about the artistic has-been that is Doherty?
Anyway, his lyrics were limp Morrissey impressions at best, certainly not poetry. |

I heard this crazy rumour that sometimes songs don't have one set interpretation. But hey, what do I know, you seemingly have some inner insight.
The song is clearly more complex than simply "my old boyfriend was a bit shit and sad sometimes". There are indeed allusions to mental disorder, psychological conditions, religion, as well as some stark imagery.
The whole "mountains as big as his nose, LOL SEE WHAT I DID THERE" bit is the only weak part of the lyric, really. It's cringeworthy. |
