Belle & Sebastian – Sukie in the Graveyard Lyrics 13 years ago
When it talks about an "A1 body", it may well be a reference to the marking system at Glasgow University, where Stuart studied; an A1 is the absolute highest mark you can get.

Los Campesinos! – Too Many Flesh Suppers Lyrics 14 years ago
'blisters form and heal'

'too many scents linger'

'your declining eyes'

Los Campesinos! – This Is a Flag. There Is No Wind. Lyrics 14 years ago
'Of the pub that you had worked in since you moved here from Bath Spa'

Gareth lives in/near Bath, so this makes sense.

Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics 14 years ago

The first time, the last time, all the times I would've liked there to have been"

Emmy the Great – Canopies and Drapes Lyrics 14 years ago
In the new version, "fucking loved it" is changed to "really loved it", and "walk to Jazz's house" is changed to "run to Jazz's house", and a few other minor changes.

Los Campesinos! – You! Me! Dancing! Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the "bedroom dancing" may be a reference to the Le Tigre song Eau d'Bedroom Dancing. Gareth is often seen wearing Bikini Kill t-shirts, so it's not a stretch to assume he likes Le Tigre too.

Dirty Projectors – Two Doves Lyrics 15 years ago
The 'don't confront me with my failures' line is from 'These Days' by Nico/Jackson Browne; the guitar part of this track sounds similar to the Browne song, so I would guess it's an intentional reference.

Camera Obscura – The Sweetest Thing Lyrics 15 years ago
Perhaps:

"When you lose it you're the sweetest thing"

and

"a glimpse of your northern smile"

Camera Obscura – French Navy Lyrics 15 years ago
The line is indeed "lending out my art", a reference, perhaps, to 'Country Mile' being used in a Tesco advert.

Laura Marling – Failure Lyrics 16 years ago
Why would it be about the artistic has-been that is Doherty?

Anyway, his lyrics were limp Morrissey impressions at best, certainly not poetry.

Laura Marling – My Manic and I Lyrics 16 years ago
I heard this crazy rumour that sometimes songs don't have one set interpretation. But hey, what do I know, you seemingly have some inner insight.

The song is clearly more complex than simply "my old boyfriend was a bit shit and sad sometimes". There are indeed allusions to mental disorder, psychological conditions, religion, as well as some stark imagery.

The whole "mountains as big as his nose, LOL SEE WHAT I DID THERE" bit is the only weak part of the lyric, really. It's cringeworthy.

Emmy the Great – The Hypnotist's Son Lyrics 16 years ago
The line is "but nihilism's for boys".

Y'know, like, the philosophical concept?

Lightspeed Champion – Salty Water Lyrics 16 years ago
did you seriously just use the word "isolationism"?
