Sunset Rubdown – The Taming of the Hands That Came Back to Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, I think this is about the obsession of making music. He's committed to his music at an exclusion of paying any attention to his relationships. She breaks up with him and his only response is, "Can I use that in a song?" This song is breathtaking. Guh. |
Rilo Kiley – 15 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is about, to me, two very damaged people finding each other, in a destructive way. The girl is 15, but the guy doesn't realize it because she already seems jaded, though he knows she's young. I imagine that the girl has been abused in the past. My favorite line? "Does your daddy have a shotgun?" Hee. |
Regina Spektor – Paris Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this is about a woman who is a feminist, but her husband expects her to fill a more traditional role and she obliges because she loves him and he's all she knows. I find the imagery in this song to be really, really romantic. |
Regina Spektor – Oedipus Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think there is definitely an incestuous vibe to this song -- "To touch me made her awful." The whole "Oedipus" thing is a nod to the complex, not the story itself. |
Regina Spektor – Flyin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this is about a teenage girl who is a dreamer, staring out of the window during class, but then the girl was abused by her teacher and killed by him as well. Flying out of HIS window, not just any window. He isn't caught, so she can't rest. The flying refers to her being a ghost, in the end. I think. |
Regina Spektor – Braille Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm probably waaay wrong, but I always thought this song was about two teenagers who have a baby and decide to stay together (which I think almost everyone agrees on) and it's hard, but they're trying hard to make it work. Then something terrible happens and their house burns down, the guy dies and the woman is left with burns on her body, which is what the braille is. Probably wrong, but that's what I thought. >.> |
Regina Spektor – Dance Anthem of the 80's Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me, this is a very sad song, nothing sweet about it. I think it's about people, the dating scene I guess, everyone being so desperate for love, and not getting it. All they really get is dinner, and maybe some empty sex. This bit: And it's been a long time since before I've been touched Now I'm getting touched all the time And it's only a matter of who And it's only a matter of when ... strikes me as tragic. To me, it reads as a girl regretting her sexual activity. She lost her virginity at an early age and sex is all she knows, but she longs for something more. |
