Elliott Smith – Oh Well, Okay Lyrics 8 years ago
This song came on a playlist, and I've been playing it repeatedly ever since.

The more I listen to it, and read some comments, I wonder if the meaning is a bit of what everyone has mentioned. I think the meaning is a bit multifaceted. I was reading over a bit of his life story, and he apparently wrote this album in the midst of a lot of substance abuse and depression. When I read that, this album made a lot more sense to me, especially this song.

There is a dialogue between two people, and I think the one level of the meaning is about a break up between two people, whether or not it's romantic is unclear. The whole first verse seems to be about him watching someone fade away from them, and the lines seem to imply it could be his fault; but he's so disconnected he doesn't notice. "Couldn't figure out what made you so unhappy, shook your head to say no, no, no, and stopped for a spell, and stayed that way". This reads to me like he's hit that point in his struggle where he constantly withdraws, and someone he really cares about leaves, and his only reaction is defeat: "Oh well, okay".

Then the second verse seems to talk about the continual withdrawal, where he doesn't seem to see things the way he used to. The "safety of a pitch black mind" is comforting, and it creates even more of a disconnect to everyone around him, especially the person he cares about most. It's interesting how this verse plays out a bit paradoxically: "safety of a pitch black mind" yet "an airless cell that blocks the day" right after.

The last verse is almost like a cry for help, asking this person that if they still feel anything for him to let him know. It almost seems like it's his way of telling this person that he still cares, but he can no longer tell if they care for him because he doesn't feel anything. "It's hard to tell, it's hard to say, oh well, okay" it's almost like he's admitting that the melancholy, the disconnect, the apathy is getting harder to live with - but then the paradox is still that his apathy seems to the depression.

I think this song generally puts into words that feeling of being numb, just before things get really bad in a struggle with depression, substance abuse, etc.

I also find it really interesting that "Bottle Up and Explode" is the song right after.

Just some thoughts?

I always thought that the lyric, "Harvey's in the sky with diamonds, and he's making me crazy," was a cross reference between "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and the movie James Stewart movie, "Harvey".

This song to me is a classic. It seems to be about a toxic or dangerous sort of love. Her lyrics in most of her songs, and especially this one, describe someone who is magnetic, charismatic and dangerous. It's like a juxtaposition, the whole song - something that is challenging and amazing is equally as terrible. The lyrics describe a 'true love' that had to end because even though she would've done anything for him, it couldn't work for whatever reason. It captures the tragedy of that concept perfectly.

Laura Marling – My Manic and I Lyrics 11 years ago
This song describes this one relationship I had perfectly. However, leaving the personal out, I'm going to take a long time to explain this song because it is brilliant and I want to give it the respect it deserves in my thoughts.

"He wants to die in a lake in Geneva, the mountains can cover the shape of his nose. He wants to die where nobody can see him, the beauty of his death will carry on so I don't believe him".

She starts off by describing a character who's depressed and controversial referring to a place that is known for assisting suicide. He tests limits and he lies and is overdramatic. I think that is what she means by "the mountains can cover the shape of his nose . . . and I don't believe him". I think this is a reference to Pinocchio, saying that he lies and she doesn't believe his cries for help or his suicidal thoughts because she believes he's lying for her attention.

She then goes on in the next verse to explain this character further. He's very hot and cold, and she doesn't seem to know who she's going to get, whether he will be loving or ignorant, possibly abusive towards her. This character seems very unstable. Even though she doesn't believe his cries for attention, she still ends up calling him or going over to be with him. In the line "sometimes I'm convinced my friends think I'm crazy", it's almost as if she knows this guy is just vying for her attention and probably treating her poorly, and realizing that it's not okay. It may not even be that she cares what there comes a theme throughout the song in her recognizing that these events aren't healthy or normal and that line is the first to allude to this.

The next line goes on to explain that he's an insomniac, and that she tends to stay with him. The "morning is mocking me" line I think can either mean that she too is an insomniac waiting up for him or worrying about him always makes a fool of her because he just does all of these things for attention.

"I'll wander the streets, avoiding them eats until the ring on my finger slips to the ground" alludes to anxiety or anorexia, and it's the first recognition that she may be just as unhealthy as he is wandering around in the middle of the night.

"Oh the gods that he believes never fail to amaze me" can either be sarcastic or her genuinely being interested in his thoughts on religion and the universe, etc, and being entranced by him.

But then right away she describes this guy's flaws or hypocrisy, or fickle nature again in believing in God or a god, but acting entirely differently in drowning himself out in drugs and going with other women. She begins to justify his abuse and lies and cheating as an illness she can't control, so she accepts it.

She begins to describe her last encounter or maybe their break up, setting the scene as a scenario where it's dawn and they had been out all night, and she addresses him directly saying "I'm sorry young man I cannot be your friend, I don't believe in a fairytale end. I don't keep my head up all of the time, I find it dull when my heart meets my mind" admitting that he is too emotional and fickle for her logical nature.

Then she continues addressing him in the story admitting to herself that they are both ill, and her believing him and falling for his lies and accepting his abuse is really unhealthy for her and that she doesn't seem to know who he is because he's so unstable. "the gods that he believes never fail to disappoint me" is almost making a point of her coming to the realization that he no longer really thrills her and is just always disappointed. Or it could represent her faith in him and his beliefs.

And after this encounter she seems to address that this entire situation is a cycle. in the line "My nihilist, my happy man, my manic and I have no plans to move on" it seems like they both know they're toxic for each other but stay with the other any way. Or at the very least he is toxic for her but yet she doesn't want to move on or leave him so she continues to go through it.

On a side note, I think this song might be about Charlie Fink. She dated him for a really long time, and if she's referring in the last line to this abusive cycle she feels trapped in, it would make sense for it to be about him. Especially in her references to lakes and rivers, etc. I think Markus Mumford and Laura Marking split in 2011 so it may be a bit too premature for the song to be about him. Maybe, but who knows.

Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow I'm surprised this song doesn't have more comments. Anyways, I think everyone is right so far, but after seeing the music video I think the meaning goes a lot deeper.

I think it's about a classic "good girl falls for the bad boy" scenario. She knows he is "trouble" - messed up, dangerous, and just doesn't care - and she ignores the flags because he's exciting and new. She changes herself entirely to keep up with him, but in the end all she ends up doing is losing herself and him. I think this song is more about the tragedy of losing yourself for someone else, and realizing that she changed herself completely for someone who didn't even end up caring or loving her.

When I first heard this song I thought it was a metaphor about a guy who is hung up on a girl he should be waiting for, but is dating someone else and is too broken up about an old love that he can't enjoy the relationship he has.

Of Monsters And Men – Dirty Paws Lyrics 11 years ago
Bear with me on my thoughts, because I see this entire song as a giant metaphor about a war with good vs evil.

The first verse saying ' my head is an animal, and once there was an animal...' makes me think that the song is talking about a war of the mind, or a war of conscience. It may have to do with the physical environment around us, but I think the metaphor goes beyond that.

I believe the song to also be intervening the metaphor of standing up for yourself and for what you believe in. In this story, "she and her furry friends took down the queen bee and her men" because " for a while things were cold" and " they were scared down in their holes". I think it represents how people get comfortable in bad situations trying to make the best of it, when really we just need to defeat it. I'm kinda going out on a limb here, I think the metaphors could really be anything that has to do with the themes of war and good vs evil.

Katy Perry – Wide Awake Lyrics 12 years ago
When I first heard this song, I thought it was about her divorce. But after seeing the music video I think it's about her wanting to go back to her roots in her beliefs.

In the music video, she eats a strawberry, or fruit, that cripples her and with her background as it is, it's definitely a play off the garden of Eden. She bit the fruit, a strawberry, which is the fruit on her first album. When the walls close in, the light from within her sends out a signal. The little girl Katherine, represents her roots and old self, comes to get her out of the maze. The girl leaves when Katy punches her "prince" in the face, because she is now strong enough to fight on her own. The irony of it all is when she goes to sing Teenage Dream "Wide Awake". I think the whole song is sort of along the lines as the song "Who Am I Living For" in wondering whether or not her old self would appreciate her new self and trying to regain those roots.

Neko Case – Hold On, Hold On Lyrics 12 years ago
I never thought of the first line being about her family. I always thought this song was about how someone feels after a break up.

I had always thought the "The most tender place in my heart is for strangers, I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous" was her talking about herself. Much like the Narcissist and Echo myth in ancient Greece, I believe this song to be a narcissist way of talking about her own blood, and finding out that its dangerous through a failed relationship (pining over Echo).
This lead her to have more compassion for strangers and others than herself.

When I hear the line "hanging around the ceiling" I always got this image of someone just lying on the floor or on their bed staring at the ceiling, thinking, though it probably has a lot more metaphorical depth than this.

The "compared to some..." line, I think refers to her trying too hard to be loveable and in a relationship, and it ultimately failing when she says that the "echo chorus" lied by telling her to have hope and to hold onto it.

This realization comes when in the end of the failed relationship results in her being the "mean girl" or somebody's "in between girl" because she can't settle down and commit, because she's ultimately running from herself and the belief that she is unloveable based on past failed relationships. Strangers are easier to love because they don't know and they don't know where she's been, and vice versa. She rather would indulge in the dark, and the "devil" in her, so to speak because that's who believes she is.

I think the valium from the bride line is interesting. I think this could be a metaphor for the bliss one feels after they get married. When she's alone she feels the same high that a bride feels on her wedding night. She lives for the devil inside her, but thinks it's ironic and it almost has this tone of sarcasm near the end. I think she longs for love, but uses the devil in her as a defence because she would rather be alone, even though she acknowledges true love is real. I don't think she likes where she is at. This whole song reeks of dissatisfaction and escapism. So simple, but so brilliant...

Cage the Elephant – Back Against The Wall Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this song is about how their past is haunting them. The video reminds me of the phrase "skeleton in the closet" ... only with gnomes lol. The whole concept reminds me of how one can try so hard to bury something - whether it be a hurt, a person, an addiction, etc; but the more we try to hide something ourselves and run from it - it just multiplies, and eventually consumes us. I think that's the very basic concept or meaning of this song.

Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that people are right when they quoted the artist saying this is a delusional love song - yes I think that there are rapture undertones but I believe this song can be interpreted in two ways. It is a beautiful piece of poetry that is open to either the meaning of a last cry towards an unrequited love or it's the rapture/end of the world/return of Christ.

In the first meaning, he declares the events that are about to happen - he declares that one day the world will end, and that someday he'll prove everyone else right in that he and this lost love of his were meant to be. Maybe she is with someone else, maybe she has just left forever - but he is desperate in trying to convince himself that she's coming back for him. All he wants to do is just hold her and be with her and if it takes the end of the world for that to happen then he's okay with it. Towards the end of the song when he sings "you're coming back for me" it's almost as if he's trying to convince himself even though he knows it'll never happen - it's as if he's crying out as some sort of prayer or petition that maybe if he cries it out enough that she will come back, but she never does..

In the second meaning of the return of Christ, it's still the same desperation - the artist maybe in a hard place -maybe he hates the world and his life and is just sick of it all and is crying out to Jesus just to come back for him right then, which would also make the song delusional and desperate - when he cries out towards the end it's almost as if he just wants to be taken away from his life right then, and he wants the hand of God to just take him away and until then he needs to remind himself that God will come back to save him from his hard place.

But like I said - the beauty of this song is that it is open to both interpretations and even in those 2 meanings there are a million different ways to look at them. It's what makes this song so beautiful

Maroon 5 – This Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this Jane girl really screwed him up ... I love this album because it's honest. He loved this girl and she just used him for sex. They had a connection, and you can tell in the way he writes all of these songs. Every other Maroon 5 album after this was never as good because they were writing to be famous. Not out of hurt or love.

ALSO

I love my classic rock music, but I have to say Songs About Jane is one of my favourite albums ever. It's been 8 years, and my music diversity has grown immensely, but this still remains a favourite. This song I feel like is one of the theme songs of the whole album. Whether or not it's over played or you don't like it because it's immoral, you gotta admit it's honest.

Everyone needs to stop comparing T-Swift to Hayley Williams ... the way it's written may resemble Paramore's style, but her voice DEFINITELY sounds more like Avril Lavigne. I challenge you to listen to an old Avril Lavigne song and then listen to this song, and you'll know what I mean.

Something Corporate – Letters To Noelle Lyrics 13 years ago
No one's commented on this song in a while, which is surprising with the Played in Space album recently coming out. I'm not even sure what to think of this song ... it's beautiful and tragic, and everyone can relate to it. I feel like everyone's interpretation is right on: the desperate longing to be with someone who sees you as dead to them. The song captures that longing so perfectly. The "quiet violence" is so fitting. It's almost like when you know you should just let go and move on but you care too much to, and secretly you struggle but don't let anyone know. I feel like the chorus is choppy but it makes sense in a chronological way. I'm not sure really what it means even still. It's just an overall beautiful song...

I'd just like to point out that I think it's extremely ironic that everyone's condemning the band for going in a more secular direction and God forbid using the word 'damned', when the whole song is about God forgiving him for his mistakes ... he's just waiting on the other person to forgive him too.... maybe experience a bit of Jesus.. hm.

The Raconteurs – Steady, As She Goes Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that this song is way more complex than people are giving it credit for. What if the "steady as she goes" was about the girl herself as well as the relationship? What if, having all of these ideal expectations, he meets this "perfect girl" and tries not to rush it and doesn't want to screw it up, but he's not her 'perfect guy' so it never ends up working out and he never reaches the ultimate goal of marriage. And the "steady as she goes, are you steady now?" is representing that his "perfect girl" got away and he will never be truly happy with anyone else (in the lines you found yourself a friend... and no matter what you do...)
I think if you look at it this way, there's definitely a deeper meaning that's more specific and a general meaning that relates to everyone (which is the meaning that everyone else is getting). The parallel is actually kind of brilliant.

The Rocket Summer – Pull Myself Together (Don't Hate Me) Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is about when someone either first gets saved or just in general has this huge change in themselves and the people around them either don't take them seriously or think they're a hypocrite. I believe he is pleading out to the people to try to understand even though he doesn't expect them to, but he's asking for their forgiveness and just to start over.

It could also be about completely messing up and apologizing and starting over with that person a little bit too late.

Ultimately the theme is second chances and other's reactions to them.

Taking Back Sunday – One-Eighty By Summer Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm surprised no one's said what I'm about to say.
I think this song is about this scenario:
Girl and guy break up because they've both changed and aren't sure how they feel. The girl built up the guy in her mind to something he never was, and she's only going by her first impression of him even though he's changed. However, even though they move on they realize they still need each other and are "in love" but neither one of them can admit it because they want to protect themselves. She always wants his attention and realizes even though the relationship wasn't perfect, she still needs him and she's left with no excuse. The "180 by summer" means that he hopes things will turn around from the big mess before to a summer romance. He's saying none of what happened back then matters because both of them still care, but it's all about who makes the first move. I think.

Flyleaf – Break Your Knees Lyrics 14 years ago
Look at the story of Daniel. Revelations isn't all about the end of the world it's about now and what's to come. Revelation is compiled nicely of all the Old Testament prophets. If you look, in particular at the story for Daniel, and many of the stories, many suffered. This is what the song is about. Suffering, but God taking those labours we find vain and useless and making them eternal. This song is about being a light of the world, and having to put God first before your plan and purpose and sometimes God causes bad things but He also rescues and shapes us. I'm not one to say every song is about Jesus but knowing Flyleaf's beliefs and progression, I for sure have to say that's what this song is about.

Wow, no comments? I really like this song I think it's one of the better ones off the album. I think it's about how realizing that your not following yourself or God but you're trying to live someone else's life sort of thing, and you're feeling empty doing it because it's not really truly what God has for you or what you really want. And when you realize that you've been following someone else... you don't really know who you are anymore, but you know you can't go on following whoever but need to turn to God or find yourself.... it can be taken either way I think....

Flyleaf – The Kind Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about the lengths people go to in order to get what they want. In a consumer-driven society, we're all pretty selfish and it's easy to get caught up in scandals. Even the great pastors have fallen from this... I think this is sort of what the song is about. Also in the story of the booklet it's saying how one of the great Passerby soldiers fell to the Dead Army but is now restored. I think it's a weird message about hope... like no matter how deep you get pulled into with something... no matter how much your right arm offends you, God can clothe you with truth again and restore you kind of thing.

Paramore – Misguided Ghosts Lyrics 14 years ago
I feel like this song is about the feeling one gets after they really mess up. We feel safe in our comfort zone, but sometimes the comfort zone, even though it feels safe, really isn't. Sometimes bad habits, although habits and feel safe, they're not. When we realize we messed up, we usually feel bad, empty, and no one seems to know what to do but to run as far away as we can from our mistake and bury it, then let time heal. However in between making the mistake and when we're healed from the pain it has brought, I believe this song says exactly how one can feel throughout that process. Empty and misguided, and how no matter how much you try to run from it, it's still there until you heal from those wounds. The line "I am told that this is life and pain is just a simple compromise" reminds me of the advice that we're so often told that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and just to wait out the bad times because something better is to come. It's really deep and sad, and I think everyone can sort of relate in their own way.

The Hush Sound – Echo Lyrics 15 years ago
to me this is about a relationship that was never ment to be. the guy was always there for the girl, but she was pulled to different things analagous by the black silver ocean. the tempests creating this tide i think has something to do with jealousy, and how it caused a storm in the relationship, or built up a wall. the second verse says the similar thing, the guy is stable tries to save and help everyone where shes all over the place and doesn't really know what she wants.

the chorus i think is about him trying to be perfect and there for her all the time but failing because she hurt him by being distant and cold or possibly pessemistic and at one point they thought there relationship had potential but never did.

the third verse i think sounds like after it ends and how she's moved on with the oceans, because it's how she lives her life going with the flow and the guy who's stable, still is consumed by her.
the end part i think represents how like this story isn't new. it possibly is a landmark to places they used to go and how their story intertwines with history but no one would ever know. how their story has happened before and probably will to some one els. it also i think can mean that like they try to avoid eachother but can't because they're connected by friends and though they don't speak their voices are only echos in eachother's minds.

i dunno

The Fray – Heaven Forbid Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship break... he wrote many songs about his first break up that he ever had. I think this possibly what this song is. The first line I think is them finding out that their twenty years of life experience was sort of a lie and who they thought they were isn't anything therefore, breaking and falling apart.

I take the whole theme of this song is the singer trying to help someone who just doesn't want to be helped. They're putting themselves through pain and addiction in general and he's trying to give them advice but they don't listen and keep their distance. I don't think his tone in the chorus is sarcastic, rather the "it feels good" part. I think he sincerely means "heaven forbid you end up alone" because he sincerely sees their pain. The last part is my all time favourite part of any song... "I don't know how to get you out of this one"... the person's pushed them too far away, and the singer's tried to help but just can't and can only watch them mess up.

The Fray – Over My Head (Cable Car) Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about a fight with his brother:

The hit "Over My Head (Cable Car)" recounts the struggle to maintain a relationship with his brother. "We had our ideological differences," Slade says. "We were not seeing eye-to-eye on a whole lot of things, and we had to figure out whether or not the relationship was going to continue."

Slade's songwriting skills are apparent in two lines of the song, which capture the pain of wishing his brother were someone else so the situation and accompanying pain could summarily be dismissed:

I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change

"I think that's the part that a lot of people can relate to," says Slade, acknowledging that most people think the song is about a girl. "All real relationships don't just happen. They take so much work, sacrifice, compromise and understanding and determination to keep going."

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 15 years ago
I read an interview about this band, and this is how they explained this song:

"The title track to How to Save a Life recounts Slade's mentoring relationship with a teenager at a Christian halfway house who seemed hell-bent on destroying himself—but, fortunately, did not. With the power of a biblical lament, Slade mourns and cries in anger at the same time:

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

"This kid had a thousand opportunities to get into trouble and he got into all of them," Slade says. "It was heartbreaking to see all the sacrifice that went into trying to save this kid. A lot of it came out of love, but it came across as self-righteousness."

The song, Slade says, actually is "a case study" of a point in time of struggling with the teen, whose life is finally turning for the better. "I talked to him just last month," he adds."

This song to me is like life after a first love or break up. When that person becomes only a virtual memory and you compare everyone else to them but they never measure up. It's the anomaly. Fall Out Boy – Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think this song is about cheating. It reminds me of witnessing the marriage of a first love or something to that effect; such as, the guy who is really in love with a girl gives her up because he feels he's not good enough for her. And when she meets some one else, he knows that he will never love her the way the singer or the "I" loved her.

I think this song reflects this because of lines such as "I just don't want to be a footnote in some one elses happiness" like, he would rather be the one in love with her.

Also, "Tempest in a teacup, get unique" I don't think literally means whore because it says get unique at the end, I just think it's tempation in general and how it's always the same thing.

"It's a sign, what if you peaked early" reminds me of the first love meaning because it's a glimpse of what love is like but it's not real and ends badly for the most part.

... Just a few lines to back up my interpretation :)

It reminds me of some one telling their testimony. Like "I've got a story to tell you, I dare you to guess how it ends" like they're telling it of their life but they still have their future so it could end up however. And like asking that person if they can relate to the narrator's story and asking like how much do they really want to know sort of thing. How the future of the world can depend on them type thing, and how good can come from mistakes and a bad story.

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about how girls become sluts and creepers take advantage. I actually think it's about the porn industry. How everyone is sucked in and tempted to it, and how even the best of people are as well. How it's so easily. The people inside are the people making the porn, what's being watched, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy, well that's obvious. the second verse is about strip clubs. How lawyers, high respected people go there. And how the "virgin". The Mrs. is the wife who knows all this is going on but can't do anything about it because she's stuck. The virgin and the constable in the third verse, is a whole metaphor on how they slept together (the 'crash'). Crash in slang means to sleep. PATD is obviously a band who had the help of a thesaurus/dictionary when writing. The "Raindrops and roses" is a play off the sound of music and how all those innocent girls get sucked into the "sex" scene. How they're originally innocent, they somehow "second guess" and make mistakes and settle for much less than what they deserve. I also believe all of this, because of what the music video contains: porn, porn-show and cheating. I think the "mime porn" thing was a metaphor for sex. But this is all just my opinion on what I believe the band's take on this song means

Also, mental disorders are often explained to be like "demons" or "feeling possessed". It all seems to be a matter of perspective, I believe this song is trying to point out the dangers of things and how things can really change our perceptions and judgements

It's interesting how so many people have commented and said this song's about disorders to relationships, to making Biblical references.

Personally, I think this song is all three sort of incorporated, almost as a warning; with lines like "throw on your break lights" and "better think twice, your train of thought will be altered, so if you must faulter, be wise". It's like a warning to stay away from addictions and things that seem good or else darkness will creep in and distort reality "darkness in the light" is almost like, darkness in something that seems good but really isn't. Things that we take as harmless and good do a huge damage to us and mess us up. I believe that's what this song is about.

Jack's Mannequin – Caves Lyrics 15 years ago
It sounds like he got saved like he's a Christian, but I don't think that's so. His writing has matured a lot since his being sick. It just sounds like when he was "trying to figure out the sick thing" he was trying to figure out life/religion,etc. Does anyone have a story on that or no?

Jack's Mannequin – Last Straw Lyrics 16 years ago
I read somewhere that Andrew wrote this after his best friend called him up a couple days after him and his ex broke up and told him how hot she looked. And that same night was the elections, and he sat in his apartment for 2 days drinking and took a vicodin, because he was depressed. I think ohYOseejay has the right theme in which what was going through his head when he wrote this

Something Corporate – If You C Jordan Lyrics 16 years ago
Haha this song is so funny and catchy, I can't take it seriously. I really like their contrast between their epic songs and their songs like this and "if I were a Terrorist...". It makes them a bit more relatable as a band. Especially this song. Everyone knows some one like this, and it's just funny to hear their spin on it. Sure it's not the greatest song, but I don't think it was intended to be. Just something light to put on an album filled with in depth songs and epic stories.

James Blunt – Wisemen Lyrics 16 years ago
After listening to this song and reading everyone's comments, I've come to this conclusion.

Three wise I do think is a biblical reference. BUT in saying that, this is my interpretation:

In the beginning of the song, it tells of some one putting their trust into something unreliable. How we all try to be fake and put ourselves into addictions that really do nothing for us. "caught up in your talent show" represents how people get caught up in things that aren't really real. I believe this song is about how people try to get away from their problems by getting high, etc; when all they do is make things worse. And the chorus means how one who gets caught up in this ends up losing themselves and their innocence over time and experience

The Hush Sound – You Are My Home Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the two bonus tracks weren't included in the main cd because if you listen to the album all the way through, it's a story about some one falling for a guy who ends up only using her, and then at the end he regrets it (Hospital Bed Crawl). If you listen all the songs intertwine like that. But the 2 bonus songs don't exactly fit the story, as amazing as they are.
