Neko Case – Favorite Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Love this song. There's a clip on youtube where Neko says this is the very first song she ever wrote by herself. |
Neko Case – Vengeance is Sleeping Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I listened to the song with headphones and she does sing "invention" on it, even though the published lyrics has "intention". |
Fiona Apple – Never Is a Promise Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There's a clip on youtube where Fiona says: "This next song is about having faith in what you want for yourself." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCq-CCRjjtE |
Neko Case – People Got A Lotta Nerve Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I know you know, that I'm a man, man, man Man, man, man eater But still you're surprised-prised-prised when I eat ya" --I think this song is about (wild) animals that attack humans and how surprised we (humans) are that such an attack took place, as if we think we're immune to such attacks. "It will end again in bullets from.... It will end again in bullets from...." --I interpret this to mean the killing of the animal once it attacked a human. Some animals are too strong to fight off (elephant, whale) so you have to shoot/kill them in order to save the person it's attacking. http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/17/chimpanzee.attack/index.html |
The New Pornographers – Broken Breads Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I requested 'Suicide Blonde'" The INXS song? |
Suzanne Vega – Frank & Ava Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about the relationship between Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner From Wikipedia, 'Gardner said of her relationship with Sinatra, "We were great in bed. It was usually on the way to the bidet when the trouble began." (This quote inspired the song "Frank and Ava" by Suzanne Vega.)' |
Patty Griffin – Goodbye Lyrics | 15 years ago |
jrw1980, You can add Aimee Mann's "Just Like Anyone" to that list too. |
Liz Phair – Alice Springs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
blair23 is right. This song was literally added at the last minute. If you look inside the CD case, you will see that this song isn't even listed there. I love the last line of the song: "They've got me underground." Clearly a reference to how Guyville and the people around her made her the indie queen. |
Liz Phair – Explain It To Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
When I saw Liz in concert a few years back, she said this song is about a fading rockstar. |
Liz Phair – Nashville Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always thought this song was about the the success of Guyville and the reaction to it. "They don't know what they like so much about it." Liz on people's reaction to Guyville. "They just go for any shiny old bauble, and nobody sparkles like you" Liz being being the indie darling, critical acclaim. "But I can't imagine it in better terms than naked, half awake, about the shave and go to work." Liz's description of Guyville. "I won't decorate my love" Why Liz had such overt sexual lyrics on Guyville. Something rather rare then. I have no idea why it's called Nashville. Maybe it was written there? |
Aimee Mann – You Could Make A Killing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
When I saw Aimee back in concert back in 2003 she said this song was written around the time she had a mad crush on Noel Gallagher from Oasis, and that the song is really about him and the feelings she has for him, but the lack he had for her. |
