I see it as how society/friends/media/family/whoever seem to push their ideas, thoughts and dreams onto you, expecting you to follow them through even if it's not what you really want...because it's seen as the "right" or "normal" thing to do. The lyrics question and challenge this, and seem to ask - don't you want to break out of the box? Are you going to limit yourself to this? Are you afraid to do what you want, despite what others think? The idea of an 'ocean between you and me' is saying that this supression of longings and desires tends to drive people apart, because they cannot really be themselves merely following the footsteps of others. |

| It's about someone taking a chance...or 'playing Russian Roulette' you could say. The guy does not care for her, it's all a game to him. And apparently it's a game he can play very well judging by the "then I get a scary thought, that he's here means he's never lost" -- Rihanna knows her chance of coming out on top is slim. It is a metaphor for taking a risk in a relationship that can possibly ruin your life emotionally or physically. "So many wont get the chance to say goodbye but it's too late to think of the value of my life" - she's taken a chance and is now hesitating, but she can't turn back because it's too late. At the end of the song she takes a deep breath and then there is a gun shot. She lost. I think Neyo wrote this for her with Chris Brown in mind. Defiantely. | |

St John was sent forth as a messenger from Jesus. Bearing that in mind, I think this song is about someone who is simply questioning their faith. For many years, they have believed & set their beliefs upon others, only to sit there one day and think "What the hell am I believing in? This is crazy!" 'This night is alive with the smell of insane It's reaching for me and it's calling my name I beg for silence to drown out their weep How did this asylum become where I sleep?' -- An asylum is a inviolable refuge, a sanctuary...she's sought asylum in the church and is wondering how the heck she ever got there in the first place. Sitting there whilst the priest is talking, she probably wonders why she is sitting through the service, listening to the insanity. 'So ashamed of waking All my life you failed to keep me safe My whole world's forsaken Won't let you destroy my faith again' - BUT, she feels ashamed of questioning it all. I'm sure some religious people have felt like this at least once, I know I have questioned my Christian faith at times. But then you feel dreadful, right? Yet still, you can't help it! She's ashamed of waking AKA ashamed of breaking out of the circle of christian belief, she's ashamed that the concept of not believing had ever entered her mind. She then worries that her whole life will be worth nothing if she does not believe, so she says to the devil that is tempting her to not believe "I won't let you destroy my belief in God again" Notice how the lyrics say "mommy" - this shows how vulnerable she is, and also suggests that her parents had been the one who forced her to be so religious in the first place, never giving her a chance to choose to believe by herself. You find this happens a lot when kids have been flung into serious religious devotion from a young age, one day they suddenly question everything. She then says how close she got to her grave...not literally, but how scared she got, thinking that because she had questioned her faith, she would not get the chance to be recieved in Heaven. But then she looks again and sees an 'instituion' - the church is just one big organisation of people being controlled by the words being said by the priest, yet she is still praying. 'orgive me With wings adorn me So I can fly' - She asks for forgiveness again though. She's really juggling this idea of faith and is not sure what to believe. |

It's obviously a song put out towards parents who put expectations on their children...whether that be doing well in school, becoming a doctor, whatever. Pressure is being put on them, and they feel like they can do no good with these unrealistic expectations. They don't feel close to their parents anymore ("I can't feel you there") and want to just be more like themselves instead of aiming to be something they don't truly want to be. There's then that outburst towards the parents, saying something along the lines of "yeah, I may fail...but you can't force/judge me, because you were in the exact same position when you were my age". I think everyone can understand where this song's coming from, I love it...it never gets old! |

I think this is a song about how he's been feeling to bored with life in the one same place he's always been, and how he wants to leave those memories behind. "Finally content with a past I regret" -- he's not exactly wanting to get rid of the memories, just accept them and move on. "But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong" -- this line shows how the place where he was living and had all his memories before isn't really where he belongs, he needs to move on from it all and leave it behind. He has more to experience in life and has been sitting too content for too long. It basically symbolizes change, coming to terms with bad times and letting go of the past. |

Fancy having 100 metorea or hybrid theory albums coming out each year (actually, I don't think I'd mind...but then again I'm just a massive LP fan) This song is about someone who is basically sick of the way they act. They want to change but no-one around them evens cares anymore: they think this person is a waste of space so they've just given up with them. As a result, the person starts questioning people as to why they aren't helping him...he needs guideance because he can't change himself alone. I really like this song :) |

I've changed my theory of the song after watching the video for 'crawling'. In the video, the girl (Katelyn Rosaasen) is physically abused by her father. At the beginning, we can see all her bruises. Many of the lyrics demonstrate how hard it is to break the cycle of abuse ("These wounds, they will not heal" and "It's haunting, how I can't seem to find myself again, my walls are closing in"), and how self-confidence is crushed. The blue crystal background closes in on her at the beginning of the first chorus - this shows an emotional shell that she has built around her. The thick make-up is like a mask, trying to hide what's going on inside. The septum ring is designed to link with Chester's lip ring. When the girl walks away from her boyfriend, it's because she's too scared to get close to people. This is also true for the high school bathroom scene. When Chester sings, "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection," he and Katelyn are looking at each other. She looks like she wants to get out of the shell she's in. She also sees painful memories from her past in the crystal. When the second chorus starts, the crystal begins to break and chunks of it are flying about - this is her shell falling down. It represents her father's departure, as does her smiling at the end with the roses in the vase. She's not wearing the thick make-up because she doesn't feel like she needs the protection of a mask - she's got nothing to hide from. |

This song is about the denial of death as opposed to the mourning of it. I don't think she digs the body up - simply refuses to be away from the grave more like. She visits the grave all the time & talks to the dead one as if they were still alive. There is a bond between them both so she cannot let go. She still feels he is alive - although he may not be there with her physically, he is mentally. Even in death...their love goes on! |

This song is about fallen angels (or fallen people...whichever you want to imagine. You should know that a fallen angel is an angel that has been exiled or banished from Heaven. Often such banishment is a punishment for disobeying or rebelling against God. The best-known fallen angel is Lucifer. Lucifer rebelled and was cast out of Heaven and fell to Earth for his offense. According to some traditions, fallen angels will roam the Earth until Judgment Day, when they will be banished to Hell. So, lets explore the song. "catch me as i fall say you're here and it's all over now speaking to the atmosphere no one's here and i fall into myself" (Here, the fallen angel is falling from heaven. We can tell because she wants God to catch her as she falls, but he doesn't & she realizes she is just speaking to the atmosphere.) I don't think this song is about depression/drugs etc...in my opinion it's about how someone has been living a lie - now their confidence is diminished & they can't seem to find the strength to try & find their "real selves" again. The flashbacks of whatever this person have done keep coming back, hence why their wounds are crawling and not healing. 'There’s something inside me that pulls beneath the surface Consuming, confusing This lack of self control I fear is never ending Controlling':- Something inside of this person keeps picking away at them, making them unable to forget about the past and let go of who they have become to be...it's a never-ending cycle and it's controlling them. She's basically just reflecting back on the lightness & innocence of childhood. We can all relate to this. Being young with no worries & not knowing about the baddness that this Earth holds. We can all remember the world from the eyes of a child - it's free & fresh & fun with no responsibility or knowledge of pretty much anything. Now that we've grown up, we know how hard life can be. We know about crime, bills, death, hard work, rude people...we were totally oblivious to these things as children & now we are confronted with this. Everything was warm & happy back when we were kids, but it's colder now. I think nearly all of us would like to revisit our childhood and stay like that forever. That is basically what this song is about. |

I don't think this song has any revelance to God whatsoever. 1) "I tried to kill my pain But only brought more (so much more)": - Obviously, she has been trying to kill the pain inside of her by cutting/harming/trying to kill herself. She's now found out that not only does this cause physical pain, but mental pain also. Now she has more problems than she even started off with due to her self harming, & as a result is inflicting more pain on herself. 2) "I lay dying And I'm pouring crimson regrets and betrayal":- She's broke down, weak, literally bleeding. The blood that's leaking out of her is tainted with betrayl & regret for what she's done to herself & how she's ended up. 3) "I'm dying Praying Bleeding And screaming": - She is literally dying, both inside & out. The self harming is taking a physical tole on her body & is also affecting her mental state, she's dying on the inside too. She's praying that she'll be okay and get through this, whilst screaming in physical & mental pain. 4) "Am I too lost to be saved? Am I too lost?":- She feels so lost inside herself & her self harming that she doesn't know if she can get better, if she can save herself, if anyone ELSE can save her. Will she be able to stop the abuse & the way she is feeling? 5) "My god, my tourniquet Return to me salvation My god, my tourniquet Return to me salvation":- This doesn't mean God literally as the 'creator'. It means God as something spiritual, as in her SOUL. She's expressing her disappointment/weariness/frustration/annoyance at herself here, and wants her inner soul to take over & help her get better, to get back how she USED to be. Thr touriquet is her soul, and she needs it to stop both the literal blood flow bleeding out of her, but also the betrayl & regret bleeding out of her also. Her soul is her only salvation as this is the only thing that can save her from what she has turned into. 6) "Do you remember me? Lost for so long Will you be on the other side Or will you forget me?":- Her inner soul is talking to her here. It's saying 'dont you remember who you used to be? Why have you been like this & self harming for all this time? I barely remember the girl you used to be. Are you going to try & remember me or are you going to stay like this & forget me?' 7) "(I want to die)":- After her inner soul/inner voice has said this to her, she realizes she really is just too lost & the only option is to die so she can kill off what she has become. She knows she may not come back in a later life as a better person, but she needs to get rid of this person she has become or else she'll be living in pain for the rest of her life. 8) "My wounds cry for the grave My soul cries for deliverance Will I be denied? Christ Tourniquet My suicide":- Yet again, her body is just waiting to die. She's damaged herself so much, on the inside and out, she just needs to end it all to get rid of the pain - she needs to get rid of the baddness. Her soul wants to be saved, because she knows she may come back in a later life as a better person because of what her inner soul is like - she wants to save the goodness. She then asks to the Lord above (the only reference to him in the song now) if her soul will make it, despite her body being killed & left to rot. She then commits suicide & ends it all. Just my opinion anyway :) |

| Lithium is a drug which would ward off the feelings that come with manic depression, which would mean she would lack the feelings of intensity that the mania produces and at the same time her feelings of sorrow from the depression would no longer co exists. As hard as it might seem for someone to imagine, sometimes it is hard to consider 'letting go' of your depression because certain types of depression, dysthemia, seem to be your a part of your personality. When going on drugs you're running the risk of losing the person that you've become and probably accepted. Depression produces such intense, unexplainable emotions, even if they are negative, they are incredibly addicting. Some of the worlds best writing came from depressed people. This became one of my favorite songs since the first time I listened to it. | |
