Kate Nash – Skeleton Song Lyrics 16 years ago
First, let me apologise because I didn't read everyone's postings.

To me, this song is clearly about growing into a woman. When she's talking to her skeleton, she's literally talking to her skeleton -- which is why it's seen her through so many things, why' they've been 'friends' for so long, and why they're so 'close.' However, I think she makes fun of herself for talking to her skeleton (the 'why do you wear clothes' bit).

The real importance of this song is in the "you've got me standing in an awkward position." Where she used to be comfortable with herself and her body, now she feels awkward. Maybe it's a puberty experience, maybe it's just discovering who she really is. Either way, there's a battle between what she wants to be, and what her skeleton wants her to be.

Also, keep in mind, with this interpretation, she's talking about killing herself. If you look at it this way, although there's a light timbre, it's really quite a dark song.

I'm glad you guys agree :)

I actually did find the quote on wiki. Andrew had referred to it in an interview, but I wasn't sure of the exact wording, so I had to search for it.

Ludo – Such As It Ends Lyrics 16 years ago
I am currently convinced that this song was inspired by Indiana Jones. It's from Marion Ravenwood's point of view and is takes place before and during Raiders of the lost Ark. That means that the narrator is a female and the subject is male. Now, pay attention...

Verse one talks about how he left her to go searching through deserts and caves. This is when Indy left Marion to go search for important artifacts and she pined for him -- they were in love when he left.

The second verse talks about him gathering "figures in the clay" which can refer to buried artifacts or clay artifacts. It says that he can't "save them all" -- as in "that belongs in a museum!!!"

The last one is when Indy returns to Marion (Raiders). He "looks so tired" b/c it's referring to the part where they are escaping on the boat -- you know, the "where doesn't it hurt?" scene.

It may be a bit crazy, but it makes sense when you think about it!!!

I forgot to include this...it was based on this quote by Salvador Dali:
"I love Gala so much, if she dies I will eat her."

This song is NOT a parady. First of all, a parady is meant to be funny by definition, which this is not. Secondly, try looking up interviews with Andrew and you'll see what it really means.

Think of it like that chick from Animaniacs who loves animals so much she wants to squeeze them. It's about that all consuming, passionate love where all you want to do is get closer to that person. It's a magnified version of pinching someone's cheeks or hugging someone tightly. Imagine if that type of love happened to a sociopath? That's what this song is. Take that feeling of a normal person and multiple it and you get a killer who wants to become one with his loved one.

Although it is disturbing, it's also beautiful. Those lyrics combined with the ethereal music is so horribly touching. And I think that's another important aspect of the song -- the contrast between the physical horror that goes on and the beautiful way it's told.

Well done, Ludo.

Brett Dennen – When I Go Lyrics 16 years ago
This song isn't about the "uncertainty of our ending," but more about the certainty of it. The author is not afraid of death...it's something unknown or mysterious, it's something promising and exciting.

The song is about the fact that the author will die and the effect his death will have on his loved ones. He seems positive that life after death will be a good one. The point of the song seems to be to assure his loved ones that even though he's excited to reach his afterlife, he will still be with them so they won't have to be along. He'll postpone his journey to Heaven in order to comfort and protect his family:

"I'll watch over you
I'll watch over you
You know I'd love to get to heaven
You know I'd love to see the view
But first I think I'll stay and watch over you"

So it's not that he won't die to protect them -- it means after he's gone, he'll stick around instead of going to Heaven to protect them.

And I think there might be two errors in the lyrics:

It sounds like "But i know they'd all be yearning to fly" is really "But I know I'd be yearning to fly"

And I think "Oh, my care will cover you just like the moon do" is really "Oh, my care will cover you just like the morning dew"

Court of canes...

Alluding to the fact that the people in power are old fashioned and not ready to make changes, maybe?

Mêlée – She's Gonna Find Me Here Lyrics 16 years ago
To me this song is about faith and resilience. Most people know that it's a tearful, hurtful path to find love. We suffer heartbreak after heartbreak and it can make us never want to try again. This song is the author coming to the realization that he shouldn't (and doesn't) have to go through all of what he has been to find his love. He doesn't have to change who he is or sacrifice everything for someone who isn't really interested. If there really is a true love out there for him, she'll find him -- or rather, they'll find each other. It's such an uplifting thought -- you have a love, and even if you haven't met them yet, have faith that you will and carry on.

Also, I don't think the verse about her being on her own means that it's an old girlfriend. What that means is that they're separated and instead of fretting over who she is and where she is, he just needs to focus on himself until they're ready for each other.

This song is quickly turning into my favorite song -- although Audra and Sleeping Through Autumn run a close second.
