Goldfrapp – Happiness Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is certainly about cults, but I don't believe the video has anything to do with symbolism.
It's actually a clever remake of Bobby Van's Vaudeville type song and dance number "Take Me to Broadway" from the 1953 movie Small Town Girl.
Here's the URL to that video:

As well as the one to the official music video for this song:

So you can compare. Take a look at the details like the car in the beginning and the hoping dog at the end. It's almost exact with the exception of some fantastic modifications that update the time period of the video to present day.
Very nice.

Los Campesinos! – Don't Tell Me to Do the Math(s) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this is definitely about the hypocrisy of authority figures in young peoples lives, particularly the education system. I know for a fact that in America this is the case, because they try to stop us from reading certain books before we study them in class but then they encourage a love of reading. They strongly advise us against reading "Catcher in the Rye" and "Jane Eyre" and any number of other great, classic books because there is a vague possibility that we will study them later on.
The song is about using the things we learn in books to take over the establishment. In the end it tells us that maybe we should all just read what we want to, which can also be taken to mean that we should govern our own lives and do whatever we wish.
The last line though is funny because it says we should keep it all to ourselves,
perhaps the establishment can't handle the thought of rebellion? Perhaps making it public is futile?
It reminds me a bit of Winston Smith in George Orwell's 1984 who has to keep any telling expressions of free thought to himself.
Ironic that the idea can be found in the books themselves. =D

Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa Lyrics 16 years ago
Mr. Me,
you're a genius. I read these lyrics and loved the references to Benneton and Peter Gabriel. After some research I got the meaning of the song but the way you broke down the actual musical style as both Cape Codian and a Kwassa Kwassa was brilliant and lends me a new level of appreciation for this song.

Vampire Weekend – A-Punk Lyrics 16 years ago
A lot of Vampire Weekends music has references to the Ivy League, Cape Cod, Boston, Martha's Vineyard, and New England in general, so I learned to look for references that might be obscure and the first time I heard this song I though they were saying, "look outside the redcoats coming." even though the real line is raincoats, could it be a masked reference alluding to the Paul Revere's historic ride through new england? I like to believe that is has a double meaning in a historical sense as well as meaning that the sadness Johanna feels is coming for her.

Feist – Brandy Alexander Lyrics 16 years ago
As someone who has a brandy alexander in their life, I feel very close to this song.
It means to me that she has a male friend that is infectious, the kind that she is addicted to spending time with just being herself and having him bring out the best in her. He gets her into trouble but she doesn't care because she's so taken by him and she hopes he with her, and even though she wants to be with him in a romantic way, they have something already that is so special, so unspokenly easy and right.
i also think that in the end of the song when the words brandy alexander escalate and fade out ,sounds like a prelude to a kiss, so i always picture a long awaited kiss at the end.
