Our Last Night – Part II: Lyrics 12 years ago
(You know what? I think I've finally broken free!)
I've finally finished this,
(Boring movie.... for casting me!)
But thank you for casting me.
(I'm not that good at the whole main character thing!)
...And for this somewhat shocking ending.

Now I look back at this bridge I crossed,
After I've strapped dynamite to the supports,
And given the signal to the wrecking ball.

(We yell, "lets blow this to pieces!")
(We... We demolish it!)
(I couldn't go back if I wanted to.)

So we learn,
(Something new everyday!)
This confusing thing is getting old.
(Oh come on!)
You gotta love when certain people,
(Play games!)
When no one else wants play.
(Oh, and I almost forgot that none of this matters!)
Oh, and I couldn't care less.
Why can't anyone ever get that right?

Now I look back at this bridge I crossed,
After I've strapped dynamite to the supports,
And given the signal to the wrecking ball.

I did the telling, you did the wrecking.
Don't worry, I'm not mad, things turned out just fine.
But while were on the subject of wrecking, I'll sign the papers to finish this.
And while you're doing God knows what with who gives a shit, I'll be happy now.

I could tell you what I'm thinking, but it could wreck what we have.
And come to think of it, I was right all along.

I Set My Friends On Fire – Things That Rhyme With Orange Lyrics 15 years ago
By far the most polished song on the entire album...definitely single worthy. The song is about social acceptance, whether in trying to fit in and conform to certain style or group of people. However, in the end it only makes sense to be original and start your own scene...the song really has two implications...one applies to social acceptance of others and the other to the current state of the music industry and how so many bands are forced to take on a label.

Kanye West – Home Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about Chicago, plain and simple. Kanye effectively uses personification and metaphors that they would only teach you in a college english course...hmmm.

Kanye West – Barry Bonds (feat. Lil Wayne) Lyrics 16 years ago
Kanye West is comparing himself to Barry Bonds in this song: both are very accomplished in their line of work, yet highly scrutinized for everything they have achieved. It kind of makes sense I suppose...

Arrested Development – Tennessee Lyrics 16 years ago
Many have hit the nail on the head regarding the song's meaning. It is pretty self-explanatory. It discusses discovery, finding who you are as a person, and where you are headed in life by searching where you come from. It pretty much highlights the age old saying of "if you seek, you shall find" and "if you ask, it will be given to you." Though the song has a strong religious voice, it can be applied to African-American culture and society in general and how people have forgotten who they are, where they are from, and what their ancestors have been through...so they foolishly stumble backwards repeating history. It certainly captures the point that if you don't know your history you are doomed to repeat it...so get educated...ask questions...and look for the answers!

Underoath – Cries of the Past Lyrics 16 years ago
Hey, I'm pretty sure it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cries_of_the_Past Maybe it is fact, or simply a scenario. But if you listen to this entire Cries of The Past album as well as some of The Changing of Times (When the Sun Sleeps), it is apparent that this album is actually based on this event (12/4/) and how God helped him overcome such a tragedy in his life (the loss of his girlfriend in a car accident). Dallas' relationship with God was initially a distant one; he often blamed him for trials in his life (see Act of Depression). However, he soon realized that it was through God he could see everyone he loved and remember everything that made them special; through God he saw his girlfriend. Overall, this album is mainly about acceptance, letting go, and allowing God to come into your life to help you overcome such bad experiences. If it is all made up, they really did a great job of skillfully crafting three albums all following a similar theme.

Underoath – Giving Up Hurts the Most Lyrics 16 years ago
nope...Chris Dudley has been with the band since COTP at keyboard. Corey and Dallas were basically the face of the band at this time and gave them that deathcore/metal sound. This song is actually about the death of Dallas' early girlfriend who died in a car accident (see Cries of The Past) and how he turned to God to help him overcome such loss. He initially blamed God for such occurrences and his relationship with him was distant (Act of Depression), but he soon discovered that through God he saw his girlfriend, who was a very important person in his life...a person that helped him find who he truly was inside. As cheesy as it sounds...that is the theme throughout most of this album. Research it.

I Set My Friends On Fire – Beauty Is In the Eyes of the Beerholder Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is probably about a relationship that you have no control over and seem to be "stuck" in where eventhough you can leave, you keep coming back. The person you are in love with is controlling and you keep telling yourself and that person that you could leave and look for someone else, yet you don't....and it becomes a vicious cycle. It's interesting how the band compares such a relationship to drinking or alcoholism...eventhough it isn't good for you...you keep coming back to it.

I Set My Friends On Fire – ASL Lyrics 16 years ago
The song's meaning is on the band's myspace page in a blog entilted "ASL lyrics." Eventhough the band has said that it is up to the listener's own interpretation, a fan nailed the actual meaning of the song within days of the post. It is about someone being unfaithful in a relationship and using lies to cover up the truth...that's pretty much it.

I Set My Friends On Fire – HxC 2-Step Lyrics 16 years ago
In this song, the band compares hardcore dancing to sex, showing how the two could be very much alike...fun and satisfying...hence the name HxC 2-Step.

Enter Shikari – The Feast Lyrics 16 years ago
This song really could mean anything. It could be about a literal feast or party that is simply out of control where it appears as if animals were running the show. Or it could be about the nature of their music or shows, which are energetic, out of control, and fun. Regardless, you are invited to join them in the fun and live a little.

Enter Shikari – Keep It On Ice Lyrics 16 years ago
This about the band's potential success and how they hope that success will come and last for years, since they are fairly new and have a long way to go. Champagne is symbolic of celebrating one's success, however they keep it on ice, realizing that their time has not come just yet and when it does they want to be ready for it. It could also mean that they want to preserve the small level of success that they have already gained, not taking it for granted.

Senses Fail – Can't Be Saved Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about not living up to your potential and simply standing around waiting for good things or come to you. As the song reveals, sometimes you have to go out and seek those things yourself, but often people lose sight of what is truly important to them and fail to do anything about their situation. So he is "stuck" in this regard and "can't be saved." He has to follow his passion and save himself.

Bright Eyes – Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved) Lyrics 16 years ago
The song is about a awakening Conor had nearly eight years ago after suffering alcohol poisoning. From the time the song was written not even a year had passed since he was rushed to the hospital for it. As the song reveals, Conor was at a point in his life where he would allow the anxieties of life drive him out of his mind. While driving under the influence, he saw a world so hopeless, led by a man with no compassion for human life. Conor was under alot of scrutiny at the time and felt discouraged with the way things were in his life (Next time he will not aim so high...neither will I). He saw himself a selfish person...only looking after his own interests, yet argues his reasons for being that way...one major reason being how it is useless trying to make a difference in a world that is doomed. He also argues how the government a major reason for this discouragement. So he has "the blues." However, after an incident where his life is almost lost, he realizes that things could be a lot worse...he could be dead. He also realizes that there are people that ginuinely love him (his father) and return his love, a contrast to the false love he speaks of throughout the album. The entire album continually explores the idea of what it means "to love and to be loved," and how millions spend their entire lives searching for love that is real; Conor finally discovers it towards the very conclusion of the album. He hopes this "love" is enough to keep him going and that it will allow him to look past the millions of things that bother him in society. The song overall has a positive message to it, if you look past all the discouraging truths he brings up.

Trophy Scars – Jeery's the Name, Sociology's My Game Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about breaking up with a girl that just isn't right for you after trying to make things work for so many years. The relationship is full of sex and arguments; one minute they make love the next they can't stand each other. He is tired of the things she does and the ways she is, yet is still with her. Eventually an argument leads to her finally leaving him. The song oviously focuses on an unstable relationship and even though she leaves him in the end, he still cannot stop thinking about her.

Senses Fail – Buried A Lie Lyrics 16 years ago
The song's theme is about refusing to let go while continually trying right a wrong, which ultimately can be applied to a number of siuations, from relationships to actual cases of murder. For more insight into this idea, go see the film I Am Legend. The music video itself literally follows the lyrics word for word. The girl in this song was obviously murdered (yes, literally), yet the song writer want's to accomplish much more than proving that she was murdered; he wants to clear her name and thus justify his reasons for loving her. He wants to prove to her (who is dead) as well as himself that their relationship had value you to it, and was something worth holding onto. He becomes obsessed with proving this to both her, himself, and others and eventually digs up her body. As you can tell from the lyrical content, he suffers a mental breakdown. It can therefore be suggested that both the girl and Buddy had issues beyond what is presented. Buddy could have even killed her to prove his point (same thing was done in film starring Kevin Spacey...can't remember the name) and is suprised that everyone could not find who actually killed her and still writes her off as suicidal. So the lyrics are actually very dark and examines the idea of how far some will go to prove to others as well as themselves that they did the right thing.
