The Waterboys – The Whole Of The Moon Lyrics 16 years ago
This song was a Godsend. After becoming re-aquainted to a friend I hadn't seen in many years, she lamented about the different paths our lives had taken since high school. It was apparent that things hadn't worked out well for her while my life (as far as she could see) had florished. Of course she was looking at job, money and possesions. So I let her listen to this song so that she could see how much I had always admired her ballsiness. That it was true that I had taken the safer road to who I am today. But it was she who had dared to carve out the trail.

Craig Armstrong – Let's Go Out Tonight Lyrics 16 years ago
This song ran through my mind over and over as I set next to my mother's deathbed. I thought about a lot of things, about our interaction through the years, the fights, the belly laughs, our gladiatorial relationship but mostly in the wake of that song, I thought about my mother as a very young woman, the part of her I had never witnessed or perhaps just plain can't remember. I heard stories that in her youth she loved to party. As she lay there with her life slowly slipping through my fingers, I had this unexplainable desire to take her out and just show her a good time.

U2 – Stateless Lyrics 16 years ago
This song shows every indication of being about a man who is obssessed with an emotionally vacant woman. He can neither enjoy nor release her from his thoughts because of her beauty and in part because her illusiveless is a turn-on.

Patty Griffin – Christina Lyrics 16 years ago
I suppose this song could be about Christina Onasis. At any event its meaning is universal. And the part about "every one paid well does what they're told" is the most compelling part of this song or in other words, even pretenses can be bought. In the best of all possible worlds, kindness and compassion should be a mutual thing. But the truth is love is never more striking than when it is unrequited.

Sarah McLachlan – Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is great: a poets wonderland. The first four stanzas which includes "my mouth, my heart" means that love is after all a personal experience occurring for the modt part inside of us so there is nothing to fear. The second four stanzas refer to not containing tears and rage. These emotions gives 3D to the experience of loving. "Companions to our demons"- fear itself is just one more demon that lurks throughout our daily lives. But this one makes darness out of the day. (day or sunlight being a methaphor for happiness) And happiness should be the result of love. Also creativity is an end product of love (we will play with chairs, candles and cloth). Once unincumbered by fear, it would be easy to look to the future or past (upstream or down) without regret. And lastly, since love is an ongoing journey or struggle, peace and comfort escort us along the way.
