Susanne Sundfør – Fade Away Lyrics

Such simple yet very clever lyrics! It shows her writing prowess. The song is about a love that is not weakened by the distance between the two lovers, on the contrary, it makes it stronger and more beautiful. |

Florence + the Machine – Remain Nameless Lyrics

If this was a classroom I'd be the kid who knew the answer but would smugly keep quiet :)
I think I've got this figured out, but I can't write a whole novel here like others did.
Song's about a call girl, escort, whatever you might call it.
"All the broken chords and unnamed cries"
"I wish to remain nameless and live without shame" - these women often change their "stage names"
"'Cause what's in a name, I remain the same"
"You can call it what you want, you can call me what you want"
"Everybody lets you down, and I'll do the same"
"Darling believe me, nothing I haven't done before"
"Call me when you need me" |

The feel of this song resembles Coco Rosie songs, however that doesn't mean she's not original. In fact I think she's going to be the next big thing. Mainstream, but big. |

I'm not sure I understand the phrase "I must go on standing", is it a known expression with a particular meaning, or should I take the words literally? TIA |

Regina Spektor – Open Lyrics

Tend to agree with runningincircles here.
Oh and about the "gasping for breath" part, I don't think it's any disease, I think it's because the room that she built for herself has no windows or doors and she feels like she's suffocating.
So she lives in this room in a secluded place(through the woods and past the train) but no one can see or hear her and it's becoming more like a prison. "Every day I wake up feeling potentially lovely, perpetually human, suspended and open" No doubt here, she's feeling lonely and unfulfilled. Feeling perpetually human could mean feeling mortal and subject to error(errare humanum est). Not much use being a wonderful person if there's no one to give yourself to. Suspended and open could symbolize loneliness as someone above said.
My opinion, could very well be wrong. Nonetheless great great song and one that I've been overlooking for some reason. |

Bjork's voice is so intense here, just realized I've been procrastinating listening to her albums again for some years now. |

Florence + the Machine – Blinding Lyrics

It's a brilliant song whichever way you choose to see it(brilliant is the wrong word, well brilliant in a dark way). I never tried too hard to understand it because.. I guess it's a bit vague. I first heard "The Dog Days Are Over" last year and I thought "Oh she's OK but not that great". Suffice to say I'm not repenting by listening to her album 100 times. |

Regina Spektor – Lady Lyrics

I knew nothing about Billie Holiday but when I listened to the song it was all there in my mind, a talented middle-aged female singer in a 1930's bar, full of smoke, mobsters and scumbags that were somehow abusing her.And the rest. Oh, Regina. |

Regina Spektor – Dog and Pony Lyrics

These poorly recorded works of art are always a revelation and one of Regina's many strengths.
When you realize that most other artists can't come up with ANY song better than this awfully recorded jewel. And she - probably only ever sang it a couple of times in some bar in front of 20 people - that gives you an idea about her talent and prowess.
I rarely play it because it makes me cry - which is not necessarily a thing since I'm usually cold as a stone. I was soaked in tears and she was singing "It's alright, don't cry", it was quite overwhelming. |

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics

I've listened to the song lots of times, and I came to the conclusion that it's not a religious song, though you can be easily tricked into believing it is. I don't think Regina is religious and I don't think she would ever "charge" her songs with any religious meaning or urge the listeners to believe in god or stop laughing at him.

Definitely one of my favorites from Far (I wish there was a place where we could discuss the album as a whole) - and one of her best songs, it has the "Regina" factor :) |

Regina Spektor – The Devil Came to Bethlehem Lyrics

This is one of the things that make Regina so damn special.
I mean take this song, almost nobody cares about it and will probably never get to be recorded in a studio. Hell, she probably only sang it back in the old days when she used to play in the cafes/bars a lot.
Still , it's such a great song. |

I've been listening to her album a bit.. and she seems promising but the way she artificially toys around with her voice on this album (reminds me of those Cher songs - do you believe etc.) makes it hard for me to really listen to this. |

Björk – Amphibian Lyrics

I used to listen to a lot of Bjork some years ago and for some reason I suddenly stopped although I kept all the albums and bootlegs etc.
Tonight the song just burst into my head and I listened to Amphibian for the first time in 4-5 years. I have no words to describe what I felt, especially given that English is not my mother tongue. It hit me,tore me apart, made 1000 memories go through my head in a split second and made me burst into tears.
To me this is Bjork's undisputed, one of a kind talent at its very best. |

The Cardigans – 03:45: No Sleep Lyrics

the fact that there's so little attention given to this album makes it even more special for me, as each and every song is so beautifully compelling and 3.45 No Sleep is a prime example. on top of that, the quality of the recording is irreproachable and when you put all the pieces together this album has everything it takes to be one of the all-time classics. I can see myself listening to it 20 years from now with the same delight. |

Regina Spektor – Scarecrow and Fungus Lyrics

with me being a big Regina fan, it's hard to find any songs that I don't like, however discovered this one recently and I'm surprised it wasn't included in any of her albums -
meaning-wise, the two hypothesis are OK but still seem wild guesses, IMO Regina is just playing a random person that someone to meet his brother as they were separated for some reason.
here is my wild guessing -
English is not my native language but from what I understand it could be that the person Regina sings to is one of two (separated) siblings abandoned by their father ,and now he (the sibling) finally gets to see his brother again and he's got enough money to 'bother' somebody else, since their father doesn't care.
"They say he's adopted but quite maladapted" comes to support what I said earlier, that the brothers were separated for some reason, at an early age "remember that mouthful you spat in his mouthful, he never forgave you he's so very spiteful"
i'm done, enough speculating for me |
