Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"There's a lady who sure all that glitters is gold"-A hypethetical person only appreciates the material world, money, possesions, etc. "And she's buying a stairway to heaven"-she basically has no thoughts about the afterlife, she only cares about money (buying her way into heaven). "When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed, with a word she can get what she came for"-her 'heaven' is possessions, she get's whatever she wants to make herself happy. "There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings"-she is aware there could be more to life, but isn't convinced. "In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings 'sometimes all of our thoughts are misgivings'." basically some weird Celtic reference, but she considers her whole life up til now was wrong. "..Makes me wonder"-wondering about life, etc. "There's a feeling I get, when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving"-basically she (maybe someone else now?) wants to go somewhere beautiful to find truth in the world. "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And heard voices of those who stand looking"-basically she/he imagines there is more to life and is being called by others who want to convince him/her, maybe the dead? "And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason"-there are people all over who want to convice him/her that there is more to life, and that there is some kind of salvation/truth, and that salvation/truth will lead them to harmony/inner peace/heaven. "And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter"-those who stand by their faith, etc. will achieve peace/salvation/heaven. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May Queen"-basically, if your life is changing, you can atrribute it to new beginnings (the May Queen represents purity and renewal and holiness). "Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on"-pretty much you can choose destruction or salvation, lies or truth, but no matter what you can still change things. "Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him"-she/he can't get the thoughts out of her head, she is being called by God or something (the Piper usually represents God) "Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow, and did you know, Your stairway lies on the whispering wind"-can't you hear the news? etc. your way to heaven is not in money, riches, materials. "As we wind on down the road Our shadow's taller than our soul"-As we get older we realize more, death is looming closer than life (shadow being taller than the soul meaning you are past your prime). "There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show That everything still turns to gold"-no matter what, anybody, can change their path, she wants to tell everyone there is still truth/good in the world. "And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last"-if you look hard, sacrifice enough, you will realize the truth/God/etc. "When all are one And one is all"-the truth will become known "To be a rock, and not to roll"-to stand firm in your faith/convictions/truth, and do not compromise. That's probably pretty accurate. |
Annuals – Brother Lyrics | 14 years ago |
freaking only 13 comments?! This song echoes the lieks of the beatles and arcade fire. beautifully creative composition and simple but elegant lyrics. all around fantastic band. sad that they're commonly lumped in with those 5-minute indie bands with barely any talent. These guys are a true mind-blower. A++ |
The Strokes – Last Nite Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I recently just figured out how amazing the Strokes were. It's a shame there are so many bands these days on like MTV who just want their five minutes of fame who just copy the Strokes' sound down to the effects (namely Kings of Leon, etc.) so I always thought they were just another one of those. But I was definitely wrong. They were making the bar-chord indie kinda thing years and years before it was popular. True visionaries. I think the lyrics are about how him and an old girlfriend had a rough break up one night, she was kind of manipulative, so he left her. And after leaving her he expected everything to be okay and he was supposed to feel better about himself but no matter where he goes or what he does he won't understand why things aren't better. thats my interpretation. |
Simple Kid – Lil' King Kong Lyrics | 14 years ago |
are you serious? only two comments? this is an outrage!!! This is a freaking amazing song, wut kinda tards wouldn't listen to this and immediately comment on it on song |
Radiohead – Creep Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is one of my two favorite songs by radiohead (the other being Fake Plastic Trees). I think it's simply about self-loathing because the people around him are so perfect, and he views himself as just a sick pile of flesh, and the others around him are molded perfectly out of bronze. |
Pixies – Where Is My Mind? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
man, this songs blows my mind, sorry for the pun. |
War – Spill The Wine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Freaking amazing song! people just don't make music like this anymore |
Goldfinger – Superman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ok, for one you can't really compare NoFx, Goldfinger, and the Sex Pistols together. For two, just because a band makes an impact doesn't mean you have to like them, but you should respect them. I listen to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin most of the time, but that doesn't mean I can't listen to Goldfinger. And just because Classical music was the root of what we think as modern music doesn't mean you have to like Classical, but please at least respect it. That's what's wrong with modern Punk. The Sex Pistols loved the Who, because they practically invented Punk, but now most 'punks' hate the Who! Now what's wrong with that?! |
Sublime – Santeria Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is amazing!!! |
Led Zeppelin – Tangerine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The musicianship is amazing, even if it's simple. The chord progression Page does is genius, and the solo is too. The way the melancholy in the present of the verse is expressed by the guitar and vocals, the happiness in looking back at memories during the chorus is done by a simple but powerful progression, and the solo changes throughout, but the style is the same, and you feel the same sense of the blend of sadness and happiness. You just can't say enough about this song. |
The Who – Who Are You? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Could it possibly be that a song can be about more than one thing? No, that's crazy. |
The White Stripes – Cannon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This wouldn't surprise me that the Stripes would make a song with an Acopalyptic message or at least a feel singce Jack was going to be a Clergyman before deciding to play guitar instead. Doesn't mean he gave up his faith, and I'm definitely glad to see and hear it. One of their best songs, so overlooked. |
Led Zeppelin – No Quarter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Actually it's about Welsh myth, Plant said so himself. "Thor" refers here not to the God of Thunder, but to Mount Thor in Wales. Who really cares if Zep put Tolkien references into their songs, lots of bands did at the the books came out in the 50s and 60s so it was popular, and plus Tolkien borrowed from the same Norse and Celtic myth that Led did. For some reason every time I think of this song I think of either Welsh knights or I think of the story of Balto hahaha. |
Led Zeppelin – Tangerine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This Is Music |
The Beatles – I've Just Seen a Face Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so underrated. I like it a lot, that's what the Beatles could do that others can't, make a song with a catchy hook that has substance and means something. This song is a prime example. |
The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
PAUL IS NOT DEAD!!! He was on the cover of Rolling Stone in July! He also did tons and tons of interviews saying that he's not dead, he was never dead, why do you keep on insisting? He is alive! He's part of an animal rights activist group! He just came out with a new album from his band The Fireman! Don't you all feel stupid or what? |
The Darkness – I Believe In A Thing Called Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Good Lord is everyone here retarded? This is a JOKE BAND! THEY'RE NOT SERIOUS! |
Oasis – Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
classic song |
Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Awesome song. I'm just getting into Oasis they're pretty awesome. |
The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
So just because the Beatles were geniouses everybody thinks they could see the future? Nobody predicted Lennon's death because Chapman was crazy. Chapman didn't know when he'd kill John either. And Paul is very much alive. He was on the cover of Rolling Stone in July! This song was probably written when they were high, but some of it could refer to hippy theology, like "I am he, as you are he, as you are me, and we are all together." (see Across the Universe) or maybe not. Who cares, it's a good song. All you conspiracy theorists are dispicable. You're disgracing the Beatles. Also Lewis Carrol was on PCP when he wrote Jabberwocky and Alice in Wonderland. And have you seen the video for I am the Walrus? Paul is the first one wearing the Walrus head (the Walrus was Paul!) there. Mark Chapman was mentally ill and Paul is still very alive. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's not about Lord of the Rings you nerds. Plant whenhe was asked said it was about a lady who got whatever she wanted, but i think there must be something deeper there too. |
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Simple Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Deep deep deep |
Santana – Evil Ways Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i ant believe there arent more comments on this song. This song is the bomb! Whoever says nonpoint's cover of this is better should go jump off a bridge Satnata has 100 times the skill that the guitarist of nonpoint will ever have. Santana is a musical genious! |
The Hives – Statecontrol Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Awesome song. I'm not a huge fan of the Hives but I like this song kinda has a post-punkish sound |
The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Freakin Rhianna stole this riff (probably without liscense) makes me sick. At least at the VMAs when she sang Disturbia during the bridge they blasted the main riff and I almost threw something at the TV. |
Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand Lyrics | 15 years ago |
adjective, but it's kind of a play on words, meaning it could be meant as a verb too, but in a satirrical way because the reson for writing this was when Robert was on vacation in Greece he was in a car accident and broke his ancle. But the event, "Achilles' Last Stand" was first used in Homer's "Iliad" about the Trojan war, in which Achilles was a fictional hero in. Hence why all the refrences to Greek gods and terms. Sick song though, everything about it just screams Led. |
Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You people are stupid, a "back door man" means the guy the wife cheats on with. The husband leaves for work through the front door and the cheatin dude goes in through the back door. That saying's been around for a while. man Led Zep are the best band in the universe! |
The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Paul isn't dead u tards he came out with a video in like 2005 and has been on magazine covers and in interviews and everywhere. How is he dead? Stupids. This song probably has more than one meaning, thinking it only has one is understimating the Beatles' creativity. |
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Man Guitar Hero and Rock Band killed rock music forever. I can't believe thre's a Led song on there. Just disappointing. But yea anyways this song is the bomb-diggity. What does he mean about "In Birmingham they love the governor/ Now we all did what we could" lines? |
Led Zeppelin – Over the Hills and Far Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Wow the first verse is pretty off. It's "Hey Lady-you got the love I need/And maybe more than a man should/Oh Darling, Darling, Darling, walk a while with me/You've got so much....So much....So much" But anyway yea I think Led was right when they said the song was about Mankind. We will never understand most things, we may uncover some things, or so we think, but we will never know for sure. We can only guess, but until the time when we know what weve been missing, we have to just head down the road and keep going, try to see what's ahead, though we will never know, and live for our dreams and what we have. |
Led Zeppelin – Over the Hills and Far Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
All you LOTR nerds are stupid. Do you have any idea when the books came out? The 60s. And that's when they were most popular. And there were hundreds of songs in the 60s and 70s that make refrences to the books because of that, plus Led Zeppelin were fans of Tolkien and used Tolkien's work in a way that the culture that listened to their music could understand. Most people who listened to Led probably had some kind of Van or Bus with some kind of mural on it, and probably read LOTR. That doesn't make their songs about it. And some references may be metaphors. Every think about that? Mordor could be America or Vietnam or something in their songs. That's just one example. So saying that their songs are about LOTR are just underestimating and insulting Led Zeppelin's intelligence and capablilites. |
The Smashing Pumpkins – The Rose March Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Awesome song. I saw the video of him making this song actually. I like it a lot. |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Mayonaise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is about dealing with the bad relationship with his mother and her death. |
Led Zeppelin – Ramble On Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Okay, this is for sure Metaphorical, same w/ Going to California, all other songs mentioning LOTR by any Classic Rock bands. What kind of fag would write a song about Lord of the Rings? |
Dropkick Murphys – I'm Shipping Up to Boston Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Maybe it's about a pirate, maybe it's deeper, either way, IT ROCKS! |
Dropkick Murphys – Skinhead on the MBTA Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh God Skinheads scare me. Dang Nazi's suck. |
Dropkick Murphys – The Spicy McHaggis Jig Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Dude this song deserves wwwaaayyy more comments. It's freaking awesome! |
Dropkick Murphys – It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is NOT better than AC/DC's. You are dumb. There is no way, despite their awesomeness, that DKM could do a better cover of this song better than AC/DC's original. Angus Young will forever be a legend. |
Dropkick Murphys – Amazing Grace Lyrics | 16 years ago |
eh, I like Prydein's version better but this one still is awesome. but I don't get it, DKM aren't even real Irishmen, they're all from Boston. Can someone fill me in? |
Dropkick Murphys – Amazing Grace Lyrics | 16 years ago |
eh, I like Prydein's version better but this one still is awesome. but I don't get it, DKM aren't even real Irishmen, they're all from Boston. Can someone fill me in? |
Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yea jennings, that does. Maybe it's like a double meaning. So yea. That does a lot. |
Led Zeppelin – Going to California Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You Lord of the Rings people are nerds. Although LOTR was very poplular in the the 70's and many rock bands did write songs mentioning things in LOTR and Medievel Stories, they are just metaphors. And Led was also steeped in Mysticism, and LOTR is based off of Norwegien and Irish mythology. See the link? And the "flowers in her hair" reffers to a hippy girl, also in the 60's and 70's California was the land where everyone "wore flowers in their hair." Supposed to be a land of peace. And this song is about a man trying to find an impossible love in California. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Also, BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think, personally, this song is about finding salvation. Since the middle ages, the "piper" has been referred to as God, and the two paths are also mentioned in the Bible. The path to heaven and the path to hell. And to "be a rock" is to be strong in God, and not give in. |
Soledad Brothers – Goin' back to Memphis Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is way awsome. Especially when it's mixed with Let's Build a Home. |
The Beatles – Come Together Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It is flattop. But yea I'm pretty sure this song is eaither about some hippy or it's about John Lennon (hence, "he got Ono sideboard") but whatever. Still an awesome song. |
Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
God even though I hate this band with a passion, this is actually a respectable song. Pete wrote this about him and another girl because he writes all the songs and this song is about how he almost commited suicide (hence the lonely god complex cock it and pull it, and, number one with a bullet) so yea. It's about how he'd do anything for the girl he loved, and he's always changing but he still loves her, and he lies in the grass next to the mosaleum is symbolism for being close to death. And after they broke up he wanted to kill himself and he was kind of angry at her, because after they broke up all he was to her was a "notch in your bedpostt" kind of guy so to get back she's just a line in a song. And the drop a heart is how she dropped his, and break a name is like...how she hurt who he is, and sleeping in is missing opportunities and sleeping for the wrong team is doing things for the wrong reasons. Wow this is gonna take a while i'll be back to this later. |
Led Zeppelin – Hey Hey What Can I Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
And as for the ball all day part he is so sad because he can't tell her how he feels. And the stay drunk all the time part, i'm not sure if its about him or her, if it's about him then he stays drunk all the time so he can numb the pain and if it's about her then she stays drunk all the time, (reference to her lifestyle) |
Led Zeppelin – Hey Hey What Can I Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is about a prostuite what with all the mentionings. I think it's about how Plant fell in love with a hooke, or maybe a girl and later found out she was a hooker, but yea. And the part where he goes to church and the guys there say they come to pray but they're staring at her. And at the end of the day everyone's happy with their lover but he's searchibg around the town for her because he's in love with the hooker. And he can't tell her he loves her beacuse she's a hooker and it wouldn't work out because she gets paid to sleep with other guys. So he finally figures it out at the end and just gives up on her. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song, I think, is about: the woman "who's sure that all that glitters is gold" thinks that materials are good but it won't go with you anywhere, you can't take it to heaven. As for other things, most icons in this song are based of of Celtic mysiticism (as are the band symbols they chose for each of the band memebers on the cover of the Stairway album) so yea, but overall it is an amazing and awe-inspiring song, no matter what others say. Though Page says he wished he never wrote it, it still is a song that tops almost every song ever written. |
