Bob Dylan – Who Killed Davey Moore? Lyrics 16 years ago
For sure, it is about the death of Davey Moore, but also the same mentality that Dylan is criticizing is behind many of our social ills. The tendency to place blame and point fingers instead of taking ownership for our role in all of these things. Environmental issues are an easy fit. We all criticize the policy makers and the corporations, that are the direct cause, but really we all contribute to these ills in our own individual lifestyles. We do not insist that the corporations we work for operate in an environmentally friendly manner. We take the paycheck and go home and throw our bottles in the recycler like that's all we can do. We do not employ the age-old peaceful protest tactics of walk outs, or boycotts nearly frequently enough. We make signs and hold them up at protest rallies, but then do nothing when our jobs are on the line. Not everyone, but many. Not always, but often. Take ownership and affect change from the ground up.

Iron & Wine – Muddy Hymnal Lyrics 16 years ago
Close, but the murder happened at the church. That's why the crowd was gathered there. That's why the preacher was shaking and pulling the shade. The sleeping man at the grave ("you") is the Captain's wife's lover. The captain's man was hired to kill them both. He killed the wife first, and then was still searching for the man even after she had been buried. The lover "you" must have been hiding out during the funeral, but then eventually went to see his lover(the captain's wife)'s grave in drunken sorrow. We do not know whether the group of people that eventually found him (you) sleeping at the grave were hired by the captain's man, or if they (we) were friends that heard about the manhunt and went to find him (you) first. Hopefully it was the latter, and there might be some evidence for this in the fact that the angel tells the captain's man that, "it never ends the way we had it planned." Also, the beggar's choir which may have been hired to track him (you) down, is referred to as being separate from the "we" that eventually found him...and the lover's angel kissing her palm and placing it on his dreaming head may mean that she is watching over him and used her angel powers to make sure that the right group of people found him (you) first...or maybe they (we) found him (you) right as the captain's man was about to kill him (you), enabling the conversation between the wife/lover's angel and the Captain's man to take place as he was being handcuffed by the police....Maybe that's who the "we" is ...the police?

Also, manuel, please do not call other people's comments stupid...even if you're going to say, "no offense" afterward. There are many layers of meaning to this cryptically worded song and every interpretation on here, including your own, adds legitimate insight into what is being said.
