i heard them play this song live (fucking incredible, by the way) and he definitely says "Well my gun fires seven different shades of shit, so what's you're favorite color punk?" I've heard this term used once before (in a movie, cant remember where tho) in reference to the seven deadly sins... which kind of makes sense, eh? amazing song. |

Miss Neurotic---> he is an atheist. but still a lot of their songs have religious metaphors. i agree with lastridein completely. if anyone has ever read Paradise Lost (its an old story/poem/something or other form the Restoration period i read in my english class), it tells the story of the fall of Satan. he is the boy who destroyed the world because God created a perfect world and Satan rebelled and led adam and eve astray, and therefore was damned to hell. its very simple. there's a couple of songs on sing the sorrow i think have religious metaphors, and miss murder is another pretty obvious one. for them, its just a metaphor (which makes me sad), but its a great one. although it could be taken as depression as Ragamuffin says. |

i like this song. its not my favorite by papa roach, but its still good. the whole "taking it back to a hardcore" level sounds awkward to me, but the rest of the lyrics are great. like innocent sheep said- very carpe diem. this band is not emo. i like "emo" music as well as just about everything else and i can tell you that 1- emo doesn't even exist really... 2-if you dont like it, dont listen. seems simple enough, eh? |

yes this is probably my favorite afi song, and its up against love like winter for favorite afi video... tho just because the video is revolved around suicide, i dont really think the song necessarily has to be about that. but i do see those elements in there, as well as religious ones. "more meaningful than girlfriends"? so more meaningful than love? doubtful. i think its about having someone you would do anything for. plain and simple. |

yes there are definitley allusions to the bible. im not the biggest GC fan (although i did love the young nd the hopeless... i was a hardcore 8th grader lol). but i bought their cd after hearing this and dancefloor anthem (love them both!) its a good cd. not really "punk", if there is such a thing.... m. shadows verse is my favorite part. it was so perfect to have him on this song. |

this is so obvious. so many of these lyrics are direct quotes from the bible. the seven headed "beast" is satan, and the "harlot" is the city of babylon, aka the city of evil. it is all about the end of the world. its simply based on a true story that hasn't happened yet. |

ok i definitley just sat a read through every post on this song, and here is what i think... sex is unavoidable. its there, guys. deal. but the song isn't about sex, they use it as a metaphor... ...for suicide. they have a depressed, violent relationship. they are abused (the girl particularly), and hey, the sex isn't that great. when i hear it, i see them in a garage, she is standing on the chair with a noose around her neck, and he is next to her holding a gun. then i think he kicks out the chair for her (cause he says that y'know), so that she'll have a chance at heaven (you cant get in if you commit suicide, so if he did it for her...) and then he kills himself... they lie to the angels about what happened... but she still cant get in.... so he tells them bump that, im going to hell to be with, well, we might as well call her Kate. here's something else i thought of... "i told the angels cant stay in heaven i told the devil, the devil, the devil...." told him what? perhaps he told him "if we cut out the bad..." cause he realizes this is all messed up and he wants away from the devil. just a random thought that i liked... sorry if this doesn't make sense... just jotting down some thoughts... if you feel like going way back to the first page, chino69 had a great interpretation... and i know someone already said this, but PLEASE- its "petals" not "pedals"... |

um... ok lets see here... i dont think the meaning of the song and the video are related. i mean, there are obviously some links between the two- both are very powerful- but i really think its about suicide. or at least contemplating it. i can see him on the rooftop, taking a step forward and a step back, trying to talk himself into it... but thats just me. the important thing is that they have managed to get their message across so effectively. very moving... |

yes this song is on the life on the murder scene cd that came with all the live tracks and some demos... it is so much darker than the album version, and i too prefer it sometimes... kudos to getting all the lyrics, i had trouble understanding some of them... im only jealous i didn't get to post the lyrics! |
