| i think that like m985916 suggested it has to do with the entrance to the plaza hotel in midtown manhattan. the girl in this song is named julia and she is standing between "a pair of mirrors that are facing one another." i know in some fancy hotels in manhattan (the plaza and also the parker meridien on 56th st) the entrances are these walkways with mirrors on both sides. if you've ever stood between two mirrors that face one another, there are basically infinite copies of your reflection - so, "a thousand little julias." the plaza is on 59th and 5th, which is in "the middle of manhattan." | |

some corrections: the chorus is "he was a diplomat's son it was '81" the first line of the second bridge is "cause i'm gonna take it from Simon" the last line is "there's a car all black with diplomatic plates" this is my favorite song on the record. i think it's a story about how a friendship ended. i love how nostalgic it sounds |

SO. GREAT. |

i always saw this song as not meaning much or anything at all. i think 'his honor' is meant to be taken sarcastically - like the narrator hates this guy but refers to him with an illustrious title to be ironic. and i always thought the thing in the young men's wing at sloan kettering was something sexual rather than death, but that might just be me. |
