Johannahlee: BBB is not an angry song. Of course there is some anger and frustration and sadness. It's not an hate song as you understand from the lyrics. And what do you know that he was not in love with her? he never fully denied it. He just said that they had an emotional special relationship but nothing happened. There many things which let think that Tarja meant a lot to him. |

Yes but things started to go bad with Tarja in the last year (2005) . They had some problems after Wishmaster tour but Tuomas never mentioned personal problems or band's problems with Tarja before that period. "I've been strapped unto this altar" sounds more like "I've been exposed to" ..and this makes me think to the whole NW thing , not about problems with Tarja ;) . |

it's definetely for "eleven years". And it's curious 'cause it refers to 2007, eleven years after he founded Nightwish. But I don't think it has anything to do with struggling with Tarja. |

Yes Tarja herself told that she wanted to do one more record and then leave the band. But the guys (I know that it wasn't just a Tuomas decision although he clearly had more weight in that , being the band leader, and he wrote the letter himself) planned to fire her months before the last concert in October when they handled her the letter. And usually Tuomas doesn't write material on tour. That's what I meant. |

"About the Tarja thing I simply don't know. I see the point while talking about "End of an era" an the hints in the songs like Morana said, but it just sounds too incredible to me. But a beautiful and romantic thought indeed!" Well..it's not that incredible in my opinion. As you said EverDream is about a deep love..why not even about some platonic feeling. Tuomas and Tarja knew each other for ages (they met at the age of 11 or something). According to Tuomas (reference: the NW book) she has always been a very charismatic girl. She has been the voice of his feelings since the beginning and , always according to him, they developed a special relationship. It's not that impossible that he had other feelings apart from simple friendship. Maybe even just some platonic artistic bound. It's romantic but not that incredible. How many musicians/artists had a muse? I'm not saying it must be Tarja..I'm saying it might be as it might be not ;) |

@leopardi...your idea is interesting (even if I actually don't agree with the analogy between L'ultimo Canto di Saffo and this song...Tuomas is a great lyricist, but there's a difference between writing poems and lyrics ;) ). However I agree with the fact he sees himself as a Beast, or as an ugly person and he wants to gain his "beauty" with his art. At the same time, in some of his songs..he always seem to long for a person who does not correspond his love. A Beauty who can't love a Beast (for example in the ending of Beauty and the Beast). The Tarja theory is possible, why not..even if I don't think she was his one and only love, and I don't think each of his songs is directed to her. Some songs might be for her as they might be for an other woman ;). It would be a really romantic thing..even too romantic, that's why I have some doubts. ;) |

@dolls..yes perhaps. Certainly the split was hard for him and, judging by the songs, he seemed to be quite upset. I think this song deals in general with the "self pitying" thing Tuomas likes so much lol. He doesn't like himself, he clearly stated it. And in this song he tells us he was better before and his heart is now cold and torn: "Faded and torn, old and forlorn My weak and hoping heart" The child means innocence, and what he was before. I like the lyrics of this song (not the music though), it's very sadl. My favourite part is: "Time will not heal a Dead Boy`s scars Time will kill" |

It's not Tanja, it's Tarja ;) I think the sentence "did you ever read what I wrote you" refers to the lyrics not to the letter. Meaning "did you ever understand what the lyrics were about?" , "did you ever understand what NW were about?" . Obviously she read the letter. |

@Creativinity..I guess he refers to himself as "widow" because Tarja was no more with the band.Considering she was the voice of his feelings, a kind of "muse" for him (in my opinion)..that's why he writes "widow" @Xaldien..I don't think so. Tuomas decided to fire Tarja months before their last concert, and I don't think he had too much material at that time. I guess it's more like a metaphorical phrase..or it refers to his previous lyrics. |

@Artemis..I agree with your interpretation. Anyway, Tuomas does actually write about his own life. And he mentioned in interviews that Beauty and The Beast is actually one of those personal songs (I could be wrong though). So I think he used the story of Beauty and The Beast to write about some personal stuff. He does like this often with his songs. |

This one is wonderful. I know it's a cover but I think the lyrics could be referred to the situation in Nightwish (actually the past situation, with Tarja) . Especially with this line "Your spirit and my voice in one combined/My spirit and your voice in one combined". I can't help but think that Tuomas had a thing or a special connection with Tarja |
