Norah Jones – Until the End Lyrics 12 years ago
Well, outside of Norah's real life context, I interpreted this song as a friend singing to a friend. A sort of "we've always been different but we're together until the end" sort of message. And of course, your friend is the one that tells you not to go back to the one who hurts you just because you love him.

I get a very Berlin Wall feeling from this song.

The XX – Basic Space Lyrics 14 years ago
Oh... absolutely about a sexual relationship. "Take me in fours." That's really one syllable away from being "take me on all fours." And the poetics of sexual relations being pieces of yourself, trading and exchanging or just giving them away.

I think there's a lot to say on the last line... it sort of sums up the song, or the end of the narration, but it can be interpreted in so many different ways I'm not really going to try.

Vienna Teng – Stray Italian Greyhound Lyrics 15 years ago
The thing I didn't get was the... is a Stray Italian Greyhound symbolic of something? I wiki-ed Italian Greyhounds and they are apparently known for the charm... grace... they're in paintings. But aside from that.

I am just wondering because the greyhound was apparently noteworthy enough to be the title. Just wondering if anyone else has any insight on this.

Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics 15 years ago
I also think this is about a pedophile. I don't know if anyone else has thought this, but I'm sure people have. Right?

Well anyway... even if it wasn't written this way, I like to think it's a beautiful song about a pedophile. ONLY because it said "little girl". If Bruce didn't do that, I wouldn't think that.

I mean, I understand that it is also very obviously about a taken woman... but that's boring.

There's something about a really emotionally torn pedophile who wake up in cold sweat at night.

"I got a bad desire."

Vienna Teng – Recessional Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm really surprised that nobody thought of this one.

Disregarding the "love story in reverse" bit. I honestly thought of this as two people, meeting in an airport. Sitting together, one falling asleep on the other, one of them (possibly both of them) and then the other leaving.

And just because it was sung by a woman, my friend and I felt some lesbianic undertones. Which made it more beautiful in our opinion.

This is by far one of my favorites.

The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics 16 years ago
I couldn't really be bothered to read all 7 pages, but I suddenly "realized" that it was about a soldier back in the country for temporary leave.

There's that mention of the bar, where he hangs around, where he meets a girl, where he's wearing a badge that tells her friends he's "not permanent" and they have a one night stand or something.
