| This song is great. Its about escaping oppression to total unlimited freedom. The most powerful lines of the song are: Goodbye Berlin, hello Autobahn. Good bye communist oppression, total control, hello life without limits (speed limits). The song sort of hints at the future, but I feel like it leaves interpretation to the listener. Maybe he will escape and live with rules, but abuse the lack of speedlimits and crash. Maybe he will respect the trust and cruise to the end. | |

I think that the real importance of this song isnt the literal meaning of it- the joe simpson pimping or the terrorism- I think its the overall theme of intentional hypocrasy, the use of faith and religion as justification, and the wasting away of existential morals. In case you dont know, existentialism in a nutshell is the philosophy that every person is the master of there own destiny, and there fore should make their own original set of morals, create a new right and wrong. I think that the major contrasting parts of the song are: 1) The man fearing terrorism, and then becoming the part of our society that terrorists claim to hate and (in our point of view) the reason terrorists give for wanting to destroy our society. He doesnt want to be the suposed target of the terroristsd (in a building downtown), but he becomes exactly what the terrorists hate: the pioneering pimp, the joe simpson. The contrast shows that hypocrasy that is in a sense intentional, but the man still isnt aware because he loses reason. 2) The transition of the man's thought pattern from: Dear God, I'm a good Christian man I'm your boy, I know you understand to She can sing like a bird in cage Oh Lord, if you could see her when she's up on that stage to Throw me a kid, God, throw me a knife So tell me Lord, am I the Antichrist? Its like a man going from having an idealistic idea to realizing maybe its not ok, to wanting justification for it and using gods "permission" to then realizing his mistake and becoming dark and defensive to crying out to god, asking is what he has done is evil. This is a metaphor for religion today. The church wants somethings done in its own interest, then gives itself the permission of god, and then being called out on it. |
