lol..my bf and i broke up, then we listened to this cd he made me for my birthday together and like interpreted meanings together, after i had resigned to the fact that i had tried to change his mind but he was so obdurate, and then after that experience reading all the lyrics on the CD he changed his mind and asked me if we wanted to say it was a mistake break up, since only about 30 minutes had past since the 'breakup'. we go to college together and he went home for summer and im staying but the school so now im looking up songs to make a CD to mail to him, since i write lots of letters, itll be reaching 30 soon enough |

this song can bring tears but i try to be strong, my ex sent me a message after the break up saying : "my favorite song right now" and listing just this one song,... he hooked up wit my roommate within 2 weeks of our breakup, wed been together about 2 years so it was really rough, espcecialyl that they got drunk and did that to me, and she never told me, only he did after i asked 3 weeks later since she told the other roommate that she had also hooked up, how she had hooked up with my ex.. people are fucked. i wish i knew what he meant, but im working on him off of my mind, but now i am with someone else, and now he hates me passionatley for it, so he is too immature in my opinion to use this song and then mind who i wake with. but i dont do forgiveness so he should have known with his actions there is no indecision left, we are over forever. no matter how much it hurts. its better for both of us, i know i have intense feelings of love for him, but not in a healthy way for us to be togethe, i was always hurt by him and sad, and felt unloved and ohdamn bob dylan has a song for it all, hes so awesome |

| this concept relates to the desire of the biblical prophets to establish social justice, all these notions of addressing corruptions in the social order seem to have Hebrew influences. never saw this side to the song before and its an interesting kick i wonder if Dylan himself even saw the parallel or if its just apparent everywhere so it goes unnoticed. | |

| I am working out Edwin Arlington Robinson's poem Richard Cory currently for an english paper. What I understand is that from the ending of the song Paul Simon is showing how even though we(the proletariats wishing to be like the well off bourgeoisie) hear of suicides or attempts by famous people, such as Owen Wilson, we arent smart enough to make the connection between their death and our society. i believe this song and poem act as arguments against Capitalism which are very similar to those of Karl Marx in the communist manifesto, claiming it results in alienation. Im still in the process of writing it but it is a clear argument that money doesnt truly buy happiness, we have just been trained from the beginning to believe it does. Even though the speaker is jealous of what Cory has he never insults Richard Cory. he curses his poverty and his life, not Richard Cory. he isnt going to curse what he wishes he was. i dont think the ending is saying he wants to be dead like Richard Cory is excuse in the poem he and his coworkers "waited for the light" so they had hope for something god, other than their dark jobs in a factory, another idea similar to the manifesto. | |
