Cansei de Ser Sexy – Music Is My Hot Hot Sex Lyrics 16 years ago
higginst, im having trouble understanding your point because isn't "us" part of "the world"?

Why let other people's exposure to a band upset you? Listen to what you like, and thats the bottom line.

Beulah – Your Mother Loves You, Son Lyrics 16 years ago
hate to cite wikipedia, but "The period surrounding Yoko's conception and recording was one of great personal strife for the band - Kurosky split with his long-term girlfriend and three of the six band members went through divorce while the record was being written, rehearsed and recorded. Amid all this, the foundations of the band appeared to be shaking; rumours of a break-up were rife and well-founded. The mood of the album was certainly much darker and the band phased back much of their instrumentation, preferring to create more of a live sound than layering multiple overdubs atop the mix."

I haven't made a thorough analysis of this song, but im willing to bet the band's/Kurosky's problems are reflected in these lyrics. Think about it...every stanza here is about some kind of end

if you think about it split up into the inflections of his voice (he hits hits highs and lows), its like this:

an-na and nuh-ay-ay-ay
thayn an-na and na-ay-ay-ay
thayn an-na and na-ay-ay-ay
thayn an-na I'm patient

Why? – Simeon's Dilemma Lyrics 16 years ago
"you're the only proper noun i need" is such a delicately-phrased and compassionate line. And damn! I love how his voice almost seems to crack.

anna and nathan is correct. Look here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/50285-interview-why for the question about "anna and nathan" (just use search feature on the page bc its huge). Not to mention, that is a wonderful interview.

Despite this, it really doesn't sound like that. I'm hearing "for anna and I" but pronounced like "fuh(for) anna(anna) ana(and) ey-ey-ey(I)". Even that's a stretch though. Maybe we can assume that at this point, the voice is being used as a pure instrument, and not necessarily for lyrics.

It really sounds like "meet" instead of "make" in this line:
"Music's where I make my friends" (line 20). Maybe I'm just hearing things though.

LCD Soundsystem – New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with rossismad. "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" is the song's name.

Simply, Murphy is disappointed with New York.
"Like a rat in a cage\Pulling minimum wage" The city sucks, but there's nothing else to turn to. He can't get out because it's all he knows.
"Our records all show\You are filthy but fine" This is either a reference to the dirtiness of the city, or the oppression of the police....
"But they shuttered your stores\When you opened the doors\To the cops who were bored\Once they'd run out of crime" The greatness (stores, as in like treasure) was ruined by oppressive police. Maybe he liked the adventure of a not-so-safe city, as opposed to a very tight law presence.
"Your mild billionaire mayor's\Now convinced he's a king\So the boring collect\I mean all disrespect" Obviously a reference to Guiliani. He's a dunce, but he's getting rich and powerful, so screw him.
"There's a ton of the twist\But we're fresh out of shout" Another reference to his love-hate with the city. New York has some great things, but lacks other important ones too.
"Like a death in the hall\That you hear through your wall" The bad things about New York aren't plainly visible, but he knows they're there.
"But you're still the one pool\Where I'd happily drown" Again, it's the best he's got and all he knows.
"And oh.. Take me off your mailing list\For kids that think it still exists\Yes, for those who think it still exists" I think he wants to quit hearing about how good New York is. He sees the rotten parts of the city and also realizes that practically everybody else doesn't. They eat up the "propaganda" with a spoon.
"Maybe I'm wrong\And maybe you're right" He's still undecided about the city.
"Maybe mother told you true\And they're always be something there for you\And you'll never be alone" Still hearing about why the city is good (i.e. more indecisiveness)
"Maybe she's wrong\And maybe I'm right\And if so, is there?" He flirts with believing that new york truly does suck, and wants proof of why new york is good because he just can't see it.
