Morphine – Candy Lyrics

I originally thought this song was about sex (I really wasn't paying that much attention to the lyrics, obviously), but now it almost sounds like a suicide pact. I get that from "Candy says she wants me with her down in Candyland." |

I actually like this version of the song better. My one gripe might be how Jay-Z starts off, but it's still really good.
You know, my first thought on Martin was Martin Luther, not MLK. |

Most have said "alien invasion staged by the government" by I think it's the exact opposite, with the "aliens are actually our leaders" idea.
I always think, if indeed governments are dealing with aliens, then the governments might attempt to use the aliens in some way to benefit their own short-sighted goals. And I would suppose the aliens would not like that. Hence, the "will our leaders tell us why?" line. Of course, the aliens have always been manipulating human history, hence "it's just our leaders in disguise." Stuff like Zecharia Sitchin's work gets you thinking of the song in that light. |

I don't get the song being about her dead father, but then again I got the album after reading House of Leaves, and this song appeals to me directly as someone lost in the house. It reminds me the most of Karen, Will Navidson's wife.
"Hallways....always" is a direct reference to the book. The recurrent echoes throughout brings to mind the chapter of Zampano's work on the Navidson Record about the significance of echoes and how they distort our messages. "Shadows keep on changing" and "the hallways in this tiny room" also seem straight from the book to me. |

If anyone's read the book House of Leaves, this song seems to be about that. Especially the Hallways, Always lines. Really, this could be a song about that book. |

Ensiferum – Treacherous Gods Lyrics

I think it's "wild as *the* beast, I ran into the night". I'm definitely hearing a "the" in there.
God, I love this song. For some reason I keep thinking about lone hero sorts of stories, like the first Dark Tower book or Samurai Jack, when I hear this. The constant descriptions of the cold, desolate environment really evoke such stories in my mind. |

Okay, I'm definitely hearing "you're stumbling down", not "you're stumbling a little" or "you're stumbling in the dark".
Maybe my ears just suck. |

The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog
Is that referring to the American Civil War? |

Can't it be both? I mean the whole point of a song is to have a message, but everyone brings their own message to it. Personally, I had never thought of it in the way brwnEyedgal put it, but that makes a lot of sense.
I personally find the song somewhat haunting. Sure there's a lot of childlike wonderment in it, but it's also a very strange environment being described. For some reason, "a girl with kaleidoscope eyes" always makes me shiver. |

The Church – Under The Milky Way Lyrics

this sounds stupid after hearing all the drug comparisons, but I always thought the song sounded like someone observing the three wisemen trying to find Jesus.
"Lower the curtain down" sounds like night "descending", Memphis was a city in Egypt, etc.
The song sounds like it's only right to be listened to at night, watching the stars. "Something shimmering and white/leads you here despite your destination" sounded like the star.
And no, I didn't know their name was The Church when I first heard the song - that was just the first thing to pop into my head. Maybe I'm just crypto-religious. |
