This song reminds me that even for bands that you used to be a big fan of, time changes how things works. The songs may still be strong, but first there's something that's a little off live and then you realize they're just not as tight as a band anymore in your opinion and it's not just a technical imperfection, it just happens that at the present moment the connection of souls it's not working out as it used to be, even if they're still much better than so many other bands. It's just my two cents based on what I experienced. |

I think the first part of the song is about something that separate them like a ship that is sailing (a job, opportunities, timing). Then there's the realization that what he used to prioritize maybe is not what he wants at any cost.
He eventually decides to prioritize the "hopes and expectations". I personally think giving and demanding respect, care and making plans together (hopes and expectations) are all positive feelings in a relationship, not something to be ashamed of, and part of what makes us different from animals or machines, even if not everything works out as hoped. |

I like to consider this song about the women's condition in general. Not all men are fully aware of what it means to be a woman in a world where you're supposed to be in a certain way and not in an another and the hurdles of the situation. When you don't even get to say something, people already are thinking something about you and consider you in a way or another and you never said those things. Even when you actually get to do or say what you wanted to say, that comes along with a stigma. Sometimes it feels like your own feelings are not even that important in the whole picture, or not as important or decisive as a man's one, or decide to withhold some of them to avoid some sabotaging element from the other side. This song reminds me that some men are instead, at least, aware of the situation. |

I guess the "I'm still on the road" line is in a metaphorical sense: he's still, and always be, looking for her. Maybe when they met in the past it was not their moment but he's hoping what was not working between them then, will be working in the future because that kind of love comes first in his priorities. In my opinion it may be true in love that when is not the right moment, there's always another chance to give, but some people have such a tendency to procrastinate that they make you feel they want to book your love and their chances also for the next life. |

I prefer the first part of the song. Describing that phase, when you're not sure about what is your best option, but you're trying to do what you can with the tools you already have, because you need to take a decision in that limited amount of time. The song seems to be about a distance that is more mental than geographical in my opinion. He's saying take all the time you need to bridge that gap but mind that time is critical as well. Maybe one person is way more laid back than the other and doesn't get quite well where's the big obstacle that keep them separated if they both want the opposite. |

I'm also annoyed by this song's irreverent tone to some common issues, even if therapy must be a personal and felt choice and I'm not saying all the therapists are great though; but I'm also not considering to even listen to anyone over 25 and claiming major depression problems unless they both see a therapist twice a week and also take the medication that one or more doctors suggested them.
One friend once also explained me how paying for your own therapy is a part of the commitment that otherwise you would not feel as much in the process. |

I guess that living for a long time in some big cities can really effect in a negative way people's behavior, if you're a particular kind of person, that's kind of isolated per se. I'm not a native speaker so I find hard sometimes to get a clear meaning of some songs, but this is about jealousy. I was talking with a guy some weeks ago and it dawned on me that some people in your life can come and go but "Love" stands still. You can't lie to yourself and tell yourself you don't love her because she cheated on you. Love is not something that can disappear with a magic wand.
You can love someone so much that everything he does can make you feel extremely happy or mad and deeply vulnerable. So I guess it would be easier to be in another relationship where you're not involved and you'd have to lie but not being worried all of the time because he has the power to shatter your heart and take away what he gave to you. But is that a life that means something? I think that love risks make life juicy.

Even if shyness is conventionally considered as a weakness, it can be one of the reasons why you like someone, there's nothing wrong if it's ok for the both of them. If there is something that is important for you, nothing (conventions, inhibitions, fear to ask something) should stop you from doing that. There's nothing wrong in asking, breaking the conventions and tell someone how he can be useful, and even if you feel uncomfortable for a while, just asking is eventually something that it will make you feel good. |
