Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 7 years ago
@[Designdad:15868], I don't know if the references are biblical. I can see why you would say that, but I don't think that the speaker of the song is a godly man, who actually quotes scripture often. On the other hand, the rest of the stanza does seem to be very "churchy". I think that someone in the protagonist's position would be someone who would look at his face in the mirror and forget his reflection immediately.
A godly man who actually takes God's perfect law seriously would strike me as someone like King David, and this person sounds more like King Saul.
As a side note, the Japanese imperial regalia have a sword and mirror. There might be some inspiration from there since there's a situation where a mirror is seen as a crown jewel along with a sword.

@[ksigmabpm:15867], "his mirror sword and shield being about god, a mirror to see himself and what he is...the son of god, a sword to be strong and believe in all that he has done, his teachings...a shield...to be protected by god and going to heaven. "
A guy who is power hungry and is trying to hold onto power doesn't sound like a Godly man. He reminds me of King Saul before David took his place as the King of Israel.

No, "I went to the bitch" makes just as much sense, if not more, as "I went to the beach". "I went to the bitch," could mean that she went up to the bitch, or "bitch" could actually refer to a place.

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 12 years ago
No, it's not because he was caught up in the past. It's apparent that he wronged her first, because he wasn't happy being with her. Kimbra's character initially blamed herself, analyzing the words that he said, in order to figure out what she did wrong.

Telling Gotye's character this, she's explaining how bad the relationship was for her. He hurt her first, and she spent so much time thinking that it was all her fault. But, now that the relationship is finally over, he's the one who's claiming to be the victim.

So, it's not about being caught up in the past. Instead, the guy doesn't think that he deserves the treatment that he got from her. But, she disagrees.

It doesn't work because there isn't necessarily a logical connection. First off, the video was made because of the song but the song's lyrics were written without knowing if a video was ever going to be made. Second, music videos don't always play out the lyrics of a song.

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 12 years ago
No, I think that both of them were unhappy in the relationship. It seems that the guy was the first one to feel it, because he mentions about how the girl was "so happy that [she] could die". And, he tried to tell himself that she was right for him, but he felt so lonely in the relationship.

Consequently, the first speaker had done something to hurt the second. When the relationship was finally over, he was glad that it was over, but he didn't expect her to cut off ties with him completely.

But, apparently, the second speaker was hurt by the first's betrayal and wanted nothing to do with him anymore. And, he thinks that was too harsh, and unnecessary.

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 12 years ago
It sounds like the break up in this song was one that might have been mutual. Both speakers of the song mentioned how they were unhappy in the relationship. The first speaker felt lonely in the relationship, and the second speaker held resentment towards the first speaker for "all the times that [he] screwed [her] over". The only problem for the first speaker was how the second speaker cut-off all ties with him.

The first speaker states, "So when we found that we could not make sense... Well, you said that we could still be friends, but I admit that I was glad that it was over," which shows that he was glad that the relationship was over. However, in the chorus, he complains about how the second speaker handled things after the break up was "rough".

It seems to me that he was okay with the break-up, but he wanted for them to stay friends. However, the second speaker must have had some built-up resentment towards the first speaker and decided that they wouldn't even have communicate with each other.

The second speaker justifies how she handled the break-up by mentioning how she still thinks about all the transgressions that the first speaker made towards her during their relationship. She further justifies her actions by telling the first speaker how he said that he would be okay with the break-up.

Yet, the first speaker goes back to how second speaker didn't have to cut-off all ties with him.

So, the both people were happy that the relationship was over. The only difference was that the first speaker apparently expected them to be on friendly terms. But, the second speaker apparently hates the first for his treatment of her during their relationship, so she decided that she wouldn't have anything to do with him anymore.

I really don't know how you managed to get that impression. There was nothing in the song that mentioned anyone being on a pedestal or would imply that they were idealized into some perfect form. Nor, was there any mention about any kind of clash between illusion and reality.

Why would you think they're talking about the twin towers? Whatever they mean by "elites", it can't have anything to do with the twin towers, because the song makes no mention of them. I imagine that they probably mean society's elites, since this song criticizes of US society.

I think I feel Slipknot on this one, however, about how they feel about the United State's current situation. I think our country's doing pretty poorly, and the era of a American global dominance is coming to an end. It kind of reminds of "Ghost in the Shell" series, where the United States of America did fall and in its place the "American Empire" was making war with various places in the third world, in hopes of regaining some of the US's former glory.

Metallica – The Day That Never Comes Lyrics 15 years ago
Benighted: "didn't want the song to be interpreted as being only about the Iraq war. As the video is made by a director who's interpretation is expressed in the video."
Well, that is a pretty simplistic view of the song. Really, the lyrics themselves have nothing to do with the Iraq War, but they often times do this on music videos. I wouldn't think the director, however, is someone who'd actually interpret the song like that, but wanted to send a message and felt that his video would fit the feeling of the song.

Benighted: "they just take the beating and hope it'll end (on the day that never comes)."
Yeah, that is one way of looking at it. When the speaker says "God I'll make them pay", I thought it was "God will make them pay." Kind of like how many people await for their version of a Messiah to end all bad in the world. Particularly, for those who've been hurt by others and look to the Bible or something like that for comfort in life.

"I'm sorry for the news the other day
Let's go and play before they take you down"
What did Deep Blue do for them want to take her down?

I think the speaker wants to protect her friend in this song, so she's telling her all these things to make her feel better. Also, the speaker is in love with the audience, and this makes the audience (Deep Blue) nervous about the situation. Maybe Deep Blue isn't ready for a relationship?

I could be way off with this interpretation, but I wish more people came onto this site to give a better interpretation.

Wow, kind of sounds like my life right now.
I don't know what your five theories are chansaw arm, but I think the song's about hesitation. The speaker is emphasizing how over-analyziing the situation can ruin the audience's chances at success forever.

The speaker says that they never have second thoughts - doubts - about their decisions, never thought about them to begin with. I think they're saying that they don't put too much thought into these situations and just act.

Ladytron – Burning Up Lyrics 16 years ago
NO, it's not about a relationship, at not one that's currently on-going. Notice, the speaker consistently tells the audience that she's doing things "Without You". I think this person let them down, the audience was expecting them to be there for them but they weren't there for them. As a result, she's having to handle these things on her own.

But, I could be wrong. I think the lines "and through the burning space between us, you're falling, you have a long way to fall" mean that things aren't over between them. Maybe the speaker still has feelings for the audience.

Ladytron – Runaway Lyrics 16 years ago
"Every new day that you start
plans the minute you're flagging your heart "
I think that the word "flag" in this context is a verb, meaning to signal. I think the subject of this song warns her heart of the usual trouble that she encounters.

"every red eye that you cross
makes the next feel serious "
Since, the audience wakes up warning herself about love everyday, I think these two lines continue that idea. With every red eye that she crosses, indicates the countless let-downs from past relationships. Yet, in spite of all her disappointment, she thinks that the next relationship will actually be genuine.

"every silver shell that you crush
will be enough"
I think this implies that the audience is an alcoholic. That's immediate what comes to my mind, when the speaker mentions crushing "silver shells".

It kind of makes sense since the rest of song has the speaker asking the audience where she'll wake today or where she'll sleep. Honestly, I think it's about a person who sleeps around and constantly hurt by this because she takes all these encounters as serious relationships. She tries to warn herself but she's somehow fooled into thinking things are going to change this time.

I'm sure that the lyrics are off a little. Or, at least misspelled if nothing else.
It wouldn't be "And your a houdini" because that doesn't make any sense. Likely, it's "And you're a houdini".

That's lame! It's just like "True Mathematics" the titles are misleading, it's like the lyrics lack any originality and they're okay with this because it's in Bulgarian!

These two Mira songs I just mentioned sound nice, but really don't match the songs themselves. I guess whoever wrote this song and "True Math" didn't want to actually write songs about Commodore computer or mathematics but at least like give metaphors or something.

Maybe they were high when they wrote this, who knows?

Ladytron – Ghosts Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm sure this song has a deep meaning, but it's just hard to decipher because the song writer wanted to be as vague as possible.

Well, the "Ghost in me" chorus isn't hard to figure out, it seems like somewhere in the speaker regrets an action they will, have, or are taking. But, the speaker still feels justified for their action regardless of the sympathy they feel for the audience.

However, the "Prince with a thousand enemies" line is so abstract, that I have to think it's a reference to something else. It could be a reference to Richard Adams "Watership Down". The character El-ahrairah would be the "Prince with a thousand enemies" from that book.

I think it's possible that the ONLY relationship between the speaker and the audience is one between a rabbit and his/her owner. Either that, or the speaker is also a rabbit.

It makes plenty of sense, the deal with the wolf and the rabbits when you watch the music video. I don't entirely understand the entire song, however.

I hope someone can decipher the rest of the song for us soon. It's pretty good. :)

wha, wha, what!!??? They have a gay couple in the band!?!?

lol, that's cool. But, I like this song in anyways. I don't think they're anti-antiwar protestors but those obnoxious neo-hippies who just get on people's nerves.

It's easy to speak about social justice and freedom when you really haven't experienced it. Hiding behind their ivory towers of academia (though being no higher than a bachelor's degree in education), criticizing people who have fought for their own beliefs.

The Vincent Black Shadow – Control Lyrics 16 years ago
It could be that there's TWO speakers in this song. One thing's for sure, one person is dead. The first speaker (if there is more than one) seems like a medical-type of person. They're wearing a white suit and latex gloves. It seems like the two knew each other before, because she says "this time" like they met under different circumstances in the past.

The speaker might be trying to comfort the other party, by mentioning they're bringing forth new life, in the form of maggots in their decomposing corpse.

I'm not sure about the chorus. Is it the dead body saying this to the person giving them the autopsy, like they're pleading to regain control? Maybe, they're asking themselves if that's even possible?

It's possible that the person inspecting the body is asking themselves this question. If they were dead (and they're speaking to their body) would they still be able to want "control" even when the body doesn't?

The Vincent Black Shadow – Bullet On The Tracks Lyrics 16 years ago
What's going on in this song? Did they get into a physical fight? I think it is cadillac because I think she's trying to get to the hospital, and the audience is trying to find excuses from her wanting to go.

LIke, 'what about our suitcase honey? We left it.'
Or, "it's just a scratch!" And, "You said it didn't hurt."

The speaker is like, "No! It's stinging in my back, and I never said I couldn't feel the pain".

And, then she thanks him anyways. For what???

But, in spite of what good deed he's doing now, she's reminding him that it's his temper that's to blame for the whole ordeal, and goes on about the metal on her tongue is hard to shape?

This could either be actual metal or blood, perhaps since the high concentrations of iron gives it a metallic taste.

The chorus where the speaker argues "Don't call ME bad. You're the worst I've had!" seems to be her trying to reestablish blame on the audience possibly because he tried to make her feel bad about the "fight".

The Vincent Black Shadow – Letters to No One Lyrics 16 years ago
I would be careful XoTig....whatever. Point is, that the speaker regrets severely what she's done before the first appearance of the chorus.

She keeps telling him not to leave that he doesn't "know what’s there". It's like she's trying to convince him to come back to life.

"Why don’t you fake
A little twitch
And maybe then
I won’t obsess"

She's trying to tell him that if he at least faked being alive then she wouldn't be so worried about what she's done. She only wanted to take back what was "her's" but both the audience and the other girl are both dead now she feels like she can't be forgiven now.

And, I think that the fact that she's trying to run and she seems concerned with the clock, that she's actually trying to escape from the scene of the crime.

There's a chance that the audience was seeking forgiveness from the speaker before she snapped and killed him and his other girl. Or, at least maybe he tried to save her.

"As I’m running down the stairs
Past your good intentions
And I’m locked in a room
Between hell and heaven

I know you left
Because of her
I won’t let go
I see can’t see past
The clouds in her eyes"

"Past your good intentions" and "I know you left Because of her, I won't let go" seems to indicate that in his attempts to plead with her (possibly for his own life) she remembered the pain his actions have caused her and she says that she won't forget what he's done.

Pretty interesting song, in any case. I might want to go buy thier CD when I get the money. lol. Pretty good stuff, though.

Get this everybody, AT AGE 23, ROSEMARY KENNEDY (sister of late President John F. Kennedy) had a lobotomy because her father complained about her "moodiness". The Vincent Black Shadow – Surgery Lyrics 16 years ago
to tastefuldeath:

"ORAL-PLASTY" with the hyphen or space is a word. Just not connected without space like the original poster had written it.

But, to me oral-plasty makes better sense than oplasty (general surgery) because it sounds like the speaker is one confused individual.

A lobotomy is frontal lobe surgery, which would indicate something significantly wrong with the speaker's brain on a physical level.

The cutting of skin and not having to wait in line is really confusing however. It sounds like it could be plastic surgery, but I'm not so sure. I don't know what she means by "they never seem to KNOW it's me".

Really strange, that stanza right there. I'd guess that maybe the surgery she underwent at age 17 was pretty traumatic. It could be that her family doesn't really seem to recognize her anymore.

But, the CAKE part is pretty obvious, obviously she's woke up during the middle of surgery and she's freaking out! lol.

The doctor is standing over her, is the first thing she sees.

Suddenly, she finds herself WIDE AWAKE, clenching teeth from pain of surgery. Next, she hears the doctor say something to her sort of but not really as he isn't expecting her to be conscious to hear him say it.

So, after she hears her doctor say 'open up!' she see's her own (I'm going to take guess based off of the LOBOTOMY statement) BRAINS covering her body.

She sees her own brain tissue covering her body, and is likely horrified by it. Also, she said she doesn't remember what she looked like before he got to her, might have to do with the lobotomy. Probably, when her brain surgery treated her, by cutting out the target brain tissue she can't remember squat anymore.

First off, the song makes no note of a relationship nor does the audience have a problem with them pill popping. Instead, it sounds like the speaker is suffering from schizophrenia.

Not to be a dick, but what you wrote is pretty stupid. That really doesn't sound like something anyone would actually want, considering the leadership of civilizzations throughout history have ALWAYS used the threat of invasion to justify their invasion. That's because no one wants to die for resources, or for greed even if that's the true intent of the war no one wants to die for that. It's the idea one can protect the ones they love, or to find a purpose for their life in the very least that anyone is willing to join the military.
