Genesis – Man Of Our Times Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a wonderful "mood" song on the album "Duke" and works nicely with the other Banks/Rutherford pieces, and thankfully outweighs the pop selections that Collins there. While his voice and drumming are a stunning fit for the band, it is unfortunate that he steered them so far into the mainstream.

The song intends more epic scale than its length allows; the feeling evoked is intense. The lyrics are vague enough to give you the right to fill in your own blanks, but angry/haunted enough to nudge you in the right direction.

Genesis – Ripples Lyrics 16 years ago
@MMM88 - I agree, this is in the top 3 songs on the album.

@Voodoo Tattoo - I don't believe Genesis were into referencing prostitution, but overall I think you're spot-on. Each ripple is another day/week/year of a life passed, and each look into the pool (e.g. mirror) relects back to a person the fact of their mortality. BTW, thank you for noting the beauty of the orchestration - I think that those of us (including *you*, the person right now) reading this page are honestly among a relatively small breed who truly appreciate sophisticated musical beauty.

Ironically, the one thing I take away from this song, being on this album, is that while Genesis would have a number of excellent songs to come afterward, in a sense each album hereafter was a ripple for them, slightly less beautiful then the one before.

Genesis – Dance On A Volcano Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a great example of Genesis' beginning transition from the Gabril era to the Collins era. While the song was written and composed by Banks and Rutherford, it's clear that synth, rather than guitar and "real" drums, were being experimented. The song's not a throwaway, has some very creative elements, and is better than much of the Collins-penned music (I don't hate the guy, but he definitely wanted to take things in the pop direction), it's not the pinnacle of the album either.

Genesis – Here Comes The Supernatural Anaesthetist Lyrics 16 years ago
Another great example of Genesis as a "musician's" band rather than a casual listener's. Taken as a stand-alone I understand why Aniland would say "wtf;" however, it's meant to be listened to in continuity with the rest of the "Lamb" album. Further, like some forms of poetry, the words are not as important as the image they invoke (though there is actually a connection here to the events in the story that the album relates).
