I think the theory about the relationship breaking due to the guy being gay is plausible. I could definitely see that in the lyrics. I'm also seeing though, a sort of story about a woman and man who most definitely love and want each other, but that the man is going to leave her because of something he can't control, like death.
It seems odd because she mentions "You [the guy] have deceived her." I think maybe this is true, but he hasn't deceived her in the sense that he is having an affair or doesn't love her like he says. I think he's deceived her in the sense that he may have told her that they'd be together for a long time and because he has to leave, he's making that statement untrue.
I think "Sandpaper kisses" refers to the fact that now knowing that his having to leave her is uncontrollable, that kissing him, touching him or making love to him is rough, like sandpaper because he's eventually going to have to leave and those kisses and such will eventually cease. |

I'm almost certain that this song has to do with reincarnation, or if you don't want to call it that, the endless stream of human consciousness and experience throughout time. I feel like the narrator has finally realized that he/she has lived before the current life they are leading. The narrator realizes that even after this life is done they will experience another journey, because "there's always more, there's always more." |

This song is so beautiful. I heard this all throughout my childhood and now I close my eyes rock my hips like my parents used to to this song. I agree that this may be a message to his lover/girlfriend, letting her know he'll be around always. I really like that. |

yeah, there are a few errors in the lyrics. Nonetheless I love this song, her voice contrasts so well with the music it seems more like they're harmonizing. I really think it's about a lover or maybe not even that, perhaps a love, a passion for something that's just so bitter and so sweet and so hard to let go. |

I feel like this song is generally about vunerability. The title "Nude" kinds of alludes to it I think. Nude often means vunerable or unprotected from possible harm. However the very last line, to me, extends the meaning to feeling vunerable when engaging in something that you feel isn't right. Some users mentioned that they thought it was about sex, masturbation or adultery. I think it could be, but it's not specific to any one act that the protagonist in the song could be thinking about engaging in. He or she could be feeling nude/vunerable if they feel it's wrong to get involved in extramarital relationships/masturbation/premarital sex/drug use /drug trafficking/an eating disorder or anything other activity that makes them feel unsafe/nude. |

I've always loved this song. I think it could be about interracial relationships, but that's only on the surface. I could be wrong, but to me it's really more so about western imperialism past and present. I think I get that interpretation from the parts "visions of swastikas" and "plans for everyone". |

I've always thought this song was about a gay man, but not that he was necessarily married. I've always felt that the song is saying that Rikki, the guy, has just realized he's gay, had his first encounter with another man who is secure in his sexuality and is now scared of being homosexual. To me, it sounds as though the man that Rikki slept with, etc. is telling him that he'd be around for him if he ever became more confident in his sexuality. |

I agree with flimer64.
I think she's saying both that she likes being a woman and that she likes having sex, but perhaps the reason why is the cars, the dresses, etc. because she can get it from a guy that's willing to buy her those things for her sex. I love the song too. It's dance-y. |

I'm pretty sure one could pull out different meanings, but I heard this and thought it was a song focused on artists in general. That artists, writers, musics, architects, etc. have this great gift, this eye for a color, or ear for beautiful sound, skill for arrangement and that though it can be seen as a talent and a gift, many great artists come to tragic ends. And it's almost as if we attribute their ends to how talented they were as if it were a curse as well. |
