Badfinger – Apple Of My Eye Lyrics 16 years ago
Definetely a farewell to the Beatles. Apple Records was a mess with the Fab 4 being in court. They left Apple because they had to. They'd have been worse off remaining there.

An emotional tune. The handwriting was on the wall for the band after this.

Sounds pretty self-explanatory. Maybe he needed AA...who knows.

Badfinger – When I Say Lyrics 16 years ago
Just before I proposed to my wife, I used to listen to this song. It made me think that I may have a hard time making her realize all of her dreams. She could have found a rich guy but love was more important than $$. Now we've been married 10 years and things couldn't be any better...she's got everything she's always wanted (wink).

Badfinger – Day After Day Lyrics 16 years ago
George Harrison produced this big hit by Badfinger. You can certainly hear his influence in the guitar solo. Once again another gem with tons of Beatles inspiration.

Badfinger – Name Of The Game Lyrics 16 years ago
Stick to your beliefs. We all mistakes in life. If you're a star, you're not immune to having feelings of regret. Get off your pedestal and be a real person and take those feelings out of that jar and wear them on your sleeve and be a real person. Otherwise, living a lie will get you no where.

Money changes everything. It changes the way you perceive things. In the end, you may wish you never had all that money in the first place!

Badfinger – Take It All Lyrics 16 years ago
Troubled relationships may have a glimmer of hope if you have faith. Things can always be worked out, but it is give and take. He'd rather let her take it all. He's outta there!

Badfinger – Without You Lyrics 16 years ago
Harry Nilsson really did a good version of this and I always thought he was the first to sing it. However, when I bought the Apple release on cd of Best of Badfinger, my jaw dropped. It's great stuff.

Badfinger – No Matter What Lyrics 16 years ago
Nice hook to start off the tune. One of Badfinger's best for sure, but by no means better than any Beatles classic. Put on Abbey Road Fred. You've been misinformed!

Badfinger – Dear Angie Lyrics 16 years ago
He sings like he's been holding back on asking Angie to get serious with him. Being close to her family maybe she was too young for him at first?

Take the money and run! C'mon, get a job and stop milking the guy. He's singing like he's pretty upset with his lady!

Badfinger – Come and Get It Lyrics 16 years ago
Great song by McCartney. A nice gift to the Beatles' new acts under their Apple Records contract. Must have been a nice two-way street there for both bands!

The Beatles – Ain't She Sweet Lyrics 16 years ago
Ain't She Sweet was one of the earliest recorded Beatles songs. Taped during the Tony Sheridan sessions in Germany, John took the lead for this one. They also recorded another song, an instrumental called Cry for a Shadow at this time.

After the Beatles made a name for themselves, Polydor Records (or Atco) made this song available as a single. It can now be found on CD under various titles (I have 2 different ones) but most commonly known as "In The Beggining: The Beatles with Tony Sheridan".

Ain't She Sweet was also released on two different Anthologies, #1 and #3. The latter is a version that was released during the "Get Back" sessions also sung by John. It is a very different take than the one they recorded 7 years earlier! Check them both out!

The Beatles – Act Naturally (Buck Owens cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
The Beatles always said that Ringo was the best actor out of the group. And it was something that he would do as the years went by, making many a film.

Act Naturally is a Buck Owens song that the Beatles recorded with Ringo, of course, on lead vocals with a little help from Paul McCartney. Ringo loved country music. This song was perfect for him. I'm sure his fans loved it!

Tidbit: This was also the Beatles last cover song that was entirely written by a another person other than the Fab 4 in the 60's (Other than the public domain snippet from Let It Be...Maggie May).

The Beatles – Across the Universe Lyrics 16 years ago
This is one of my favorite Beatles songs. John sounds so cosmic....so laid back like he's just laying down imagining things, streaming all his words together. He is at peace with himself and nobody is going to change that. He wrote this while in India where he finally had a chance to slow down and find inner peace with himself.

There's a few versions of this song floating around. It was originally released in a charity LP release with all kinds of animal sounds and was sped up a tad. Its next incarnation was on the Let It Be LP which was probably one of the better arrangements that Phil Spector produced on that album. And an alternate take can be found on Anthology 2...which is the one I personally like best.

The Beatles – A Taste of Honey Lyrics 16 years ago
A Taste of Honey....more mushy Paul work here. I always enjoyed their first recordings they made at Abbey Road. It took a 12 hr marathon session to get their first LP made. Their producer, George Martin was trying to capture them live as if they were perfroming at the Cavern Club.

It was first released on CD on the Please Please Me disk in '87. You can find this tune on the Early Beatles CD in the Beatles Capitol Records Recordings...Box #2.

The Beatles – Abbey Road Medley Lyrics 16 years ago
Side 2 Abbey Road. Here was the Beatles' swan song to the world. They really put a lot of work into Abbey Road, wanting to Get Back to where they once belonged. This medley is incredible. Perfect harmonies, great instrumental work...everything comes to a head and then boom She came in through the bathroom window. How sweet it is. But it doesn't end there.. Golden slumbers, an original classic children's lullabye staright into Carry That Weight and then the heavy lead guitars they trade licks with. Sum it all up and we finally get the message they tried to convey to us all over the course of the decade..."And in the End, the Love you take, is equal to the love you make." It's always been about spreading love, it was their gospel.

So just when you think it's over, Paul has the last word. Kind of fitting it was, fighting with John all the time.

Put your headphones on - turn it up loud and lay back and enjoy the greatest medley of all time!

The Beatles – A Shot of Rhythm and Blues (Live at the BBC) Lyrics 16 years ago
Here's a song that the Beatles played in their Hamburg repitoire. When they started to get real famous, before the American Invasion, they used to oft-frequent the radio waves. Here is John taking the lead, blaring out the words in a live setting. If you don't own the BBC Discs, you really are missing out on some of their best stage songs that weren't meant for commericial release... at least in the old days. Well engineered and preserved.

The Beatles – A Hard Day's Night Lyrics 16 years ago
It's amazing how productive John Lennon was when he was under pressure to write a song. Taken from a quip Ringo used to say after a show, John turned the words around using the boy/girl thing that they cleverly used during Beatlemania. Nice opening with a contained single note. Paul sings a great middle 8. One of their finest co-works ever.

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 16 years ago
A Day in the Life is a masterpiece. Take 2 unfinished songs, roll them together, add all kinds of psychedelia and bam. Welcome to the Summer of Love. One of the best, if not the best Lennon-McCartney co-written songs ever. Lets not forget the impact that George Martin had making it all work.

The Beatles – 12-Bar Original Lyrics 16 years ago
12-Bar was one of those songs that they worked hard with in the studio but it didn't get anywhere. There's plenty of riffs that were ripped from some old blues songs they remembered. Longer versions exist on bootlegs, but this being edited down to fit in Anthology 2. This is sort of a precursor to You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) where there are quite of few tempo changes...

The Beatles – Devil in Her Heart Lyrics 16 years ago
George wasn't capable of writing anything worthwhile that would be acceptable by John or Paul at the time. This cover tune was "Beatle-ized" and turned into an nice little enjoyable rock n roll throw-away.

Death Cab for Cutie – Different Names for the Same Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is certainly influenced by John Lennon. Sounds like something off Plastic Ono Band with a twist of an Abbey Road production.

Ben Gibbard is one of the finest pop writers in the business. There are so many people missing the bus on DCFC.

As for this tune, it's all about communication. A stranger in a strange land will really need a good translator or get aggrevated wherever they go! But at the end of the day, it's all good. Enjoy life, shout it out loud!
