| I don't think this can be likened to a "I broke up with him/her but now i changed my mind" kind of breakup.. He doesn't want to be with her, but he doesn't want to be cut out of her life completely. Being cut out of someones life is a crappy feeling, and the memories of that relationship will come with negativity that doesn't need to be there. I like this song especially because i feel like it comes from the "villian"'s perspective.. He broke up with her, breaking her heart, but he wants to know why she cut him off.. She obviously can't even bear to look at him/ think of him.. But that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be upset.. who says the breakees deserve all the songs?!? | |

I think this is probably inspired by kurt vonnegut. In slaughterhouse-five an american turned german nazi explains to american soldiers his armband.. a red armband with a blue swastika in a white circle. "'Blue is for the American sky,' -'White is for the Race that pioneered the continent, drained the swamps and cleared the forests and built the roads and bridges. Red is for the blood of American patriots which was shed so gladly in years gone by.'" since the band is clearly a fan of vonnegut, i think this connection is pretty plausible |
