The Mars Volta – Since We've Been Wrong Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about a marriage that went bad, with the girl cheating on her husband. "Do you remember how you wore that dress? it slit my sight beneath the eyelids do you remember what you said to me? what course has given you the right to stray?" This first stanza is rather easy to interpret. He asks her if she remembered how she wore her dress, which I assume is the wedding dress. But in a way, it's more than just how she wore it, it's how she felt when she wore it: that she would always be faithful to him, that she loved him, all that stuff. He remembers how beautiful she looked (slit the eyelids, he can see her beauty even through closed eyes) and asks her if she remembered what she said (maybe wedding vows?) and asks her what happened between them that made her cheat on him. "And in your living tomb I'm stuck but safe the clocks are ticking fast with every breath" This could mean that in their house he's hurt, but safe at the same time. He finds comfort in his house, even though he shares it with her. The clocks part might be a reference to a ticking time bomb, that being symbolic for a divorce that he will go through. "Since we've been wrong I've been part awake since we've been wrong you will never, ever know me" He realizes here that they were wrong about their feelings, that since she cheated on him he realized that he doesn't love her, and it keeps him up at night. "What took you so long I'm not sure all the way but my heart, it asks just one more time Are you still a mess" This part, I think, is one of the most powerful parts of the song. He asks her what took her so long to tell him, or to explain why she did what she did, but he still has feelings for her that he can't shake off, hence "are you still a mess?" "One day a rain will come to wash away the earth that held us was no island I have become ingrown inside this skin I'll find a way out through those eyelids" He's waiting for something to come and help him out of his predicament like the rain washing it away, but realizes that marriage isn't like an island. An island seems appropriate because you can't really get off an island by yourself, you need help (or a divorce), but he knows that he can walk away from it now. The lyric with "ingrown inside this skin" could signify that he is starting to become accustomed to being with her even though she cheated on him, but that he still wants a way out of it in the end (find a way out.....) "And all the days become a castaway I seem to think I don't belong here" In the back of his mind, he thinks of all the days he spent with her, loving her, and how they seem wasted now that he knows she was unfaithful. He feels like he doesn't belong there in the marriage with her. The chorus I already explained. "I don't belong here, I shouldn't stay what falls inside me grows empty the walls between us will never break just seal it shut, it grows empty" The other powerful part of this song, I think. He knows now that he doesn't have to be in the relationship, and decides that he won't. He's put up emotional walls between her and him, and when she tries to tear them down and fix her mistakes, he tells her that they will never go away, and that she needs to stop trying and leave him alone. More chorus, followed by the last lyric. "Are you still a mess?" Fucking beautiful song. |

I have to agree with PistolSmoke on that. If you're gonna attack someone that can rap with the brilliance of Eminem, you almost have to come out swinging. |
Astrophel & Stella – Who Are You Really? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Amazing amazing song. They're so fucking good :D |
Circa Survive – Living Together Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think I know what the chorus means! I think it means a strengthening Christian belief. When something happens to a Christian and they don't know why or what, they begin to doubt their belief. Then someone says "because god made it so" their doubt is struck, and they believe in god once again. |

the song name stands for "we hate god, fuck you" i think this song is about the singer's drug use "the lights get louder the Silence is bright. I forgot which way is up" shows this. |
Astrophel & Stella – Lights Out in Nutley Lyrics | 15 years ago |
how has no one commented this song? a&s makes my world go round. i think this song is about the singer's mom passing away. |

Underoath – Everyone Looks So Good From Here Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I can see this song from a drug user's perspective. " In a deep breath it all starts to change" is the person getting stoned/inhaling whatever they're doing and their mentality changes. "Flip my world inside out, honestly I like it better this way." Here is where they're finally high and they like it because they got so used to the feeling. "When I mesh the night through the back of my eyes." This little bit is the person trying to make sense of what they see. "I have put myself hereI'm the culprit, I am the culprit." Is when they realize that it is their fault and theirs only. "I've been swallowed up alive Shut down Building from the inside out." They feel alone or locked out from other things but are starting to feel like they're getting stronger. "I can finally walk through the walls. I swear I've slipped right through the cracks on the floor." This is the feelings they get from being high. "It's so easy when it's pulling me under." The excuse they use for why they continue, the pulling me under part being the withdrawl symptoms. "Now I can see things form the outside and I will sit here with no place in mind." This could be the person hallucinating and to everyone else they see the person just staring off at nothing. "I can't escape from this place, this is so unfamiliar to me." Their trip starts getting bad, maybe because they started thinking a little too much. "I can hear the unsatisfying silence My mouth is open but none of you can hear me" to me this is the part where the person feels mute because of the horrible feelingof a bad trip. Just my 2 cents. |
Emmure – I Only Mean Half Of What I Don't Say Lyrics | 16 years ago |
fucking love this song. reminds me about a girl in my life that wasnt what i thought she was. great relationship, the whole works. then one day she fucked me over, and for a week i thought it was the worse thing ever. caught the whore cheating on me. then she came out pregnant with some fucking soldier's baby. and she ran back to me because the guy got deployed. best of luck to the guy out there, im not holding anything against him except for fucking her. as for the girl... well, she doesnt get a single thing from me. i guess this song is all my hate for her summed up. |

Cheap Sex – Fuck Emo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wat. I wear tight pants and band shirts, vans, and do have long NATURAL black hair [inb4 emo], but I'm the one in the pit fucking people's shit up. Stupid little emo kids just jumping. I hope you all die in a fire. I was at a black dahlia murder show, and I saw this "scene/emo" kid. Long story short, he got completely owned in the pit. Fag. |
Bob Marley and the Wailers – Buffalo Soldier Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is about an African person being brought to America, and the struggles they face going through slavery first, then being in a war for "more worthy people" so to speak. They had to fight against Native Americans, and one against racism that still goes on today, the term "buffalo soldier" was coined, iirc, by Natives because their hair reminded them of. Buffalo, an animal which they respected. Great song anyways. |
Refused – Crusader Of Hopelessness Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it does. It could be about someone who is too fucking emo and lives in self-pity and they're sick of the "oh boohoo I cut myself woe is me everyone stop what you're doing and give me all your attention" attitude. They need to realize that nobody really cares and that's how life is, and they're a "crusader" of self-weakness. |
Refused – It's Not O.K. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love how this song blends into the next one, "Crusader Of Hopelessness" with a pause that makes it feel like one song. Also, it is about how people can be blind, in a figurative sense, either because they are ignorant or choose to look the other way. |

I think you two are on the right track, but maybe it is someone who is watching the fall of humanity and being happy about it. Hypocrisy, hate, war. |
Refused – Rather Be Dead Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh one more thing. The Chant at the beginning sounds like "viva, viva, la revolucion" but with a french accent. |
Refused – Rather Be Dead Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I meant to say "pioneered" and "oppressed" |
Refused – Rather Be Dead Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow. Refused, punk? The fuck are you smoking? I want some. They're hardcore. They pioneer the genre basically. Anyways, the song is about a revolution and how the people being poressed are sick of what they have to live with and would rather be dead, but they realize that it is THEM that have to commit the revolution and fight for what's right for those who can't. For the future. |

Leftover Crack – So You Wanna Be A Cop? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
jesus fucking christ. first 2 pages are people raging about stupid shit. daddy's little defect, shut the fuck up. nobody cares what the fuck your dad does, he is part of one of the most corrupt organizations in our nation. and who says you can fucking choose what is art and what isnt? just shut the fuck up, seriously. go to bed, you have school tomorrow. everyone just shut up, if you got even a little mad about this song, then LOC is doing it right. thats what they do, make songs that hardly anyone will do, with subjects that are as touchy as that whore's temper [that daddys little defect bitch]. freedom of speech, so shut the hell up and light up. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song could be the most perfectly crafted song ever. not because it means this or that, but because it could mean ANYTHING. really, if you go looking for salvation in the song you find it. lord of the rings, you could find it. basically, you find what you want to look for in this song. |
The Black Dahlia Murder – Closed Casket Requiem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
fuck, this song is the best song they have ever written. EVER. the first time i heard it i could only understand little parts of it. "dear diary, tonight will be my last.....hands itching for razors... my angel, this knive shall carve thee wings... was pretty much all i understood the first time i heard it. from there on out i listened to this song over and over, and when i hear this song at night in the dark i can vividly imagine what the murderer is doing... fuckin epic song, this is what melodic death metal is about! |
The Black Dahlia Murder – Elder Misanthropy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
meh when i first read the lyrics i thought it was about Death, as in the Grim Reaper. the "sword" could be metaphorical, showing that he has been through a lot, and he is "beyond the reach of death" because he is death. He never dies because he is Death in physical form, per se, and his job is killing people [makes sense because he is the Grim Reaper]. is it just me? |
The Mars Volta – Ilyena Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the "brand new skin" could be a reference to the Soothsayer needing a new body to take over.... |

goddamn anyone that says anything about heroin/rat poison is WRONG. yes, Julio tried injecting rat poison in his left arm, but it just scarred it. he overdosed on MORPHINE, and i only SAW ONE PERSON here say that. he went into a coma, had hallucinations, came back, found the world unfit to live in, and consequently killed himself. |
The Mars Volta – The Widow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
my bad, And I hear him every night In every pore And every time he just makes me warm i think the pores thing is the effect of the drugs and he "hears" him [the dealer] through them. |
The Mars Volta – The Widow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
im sure this is about herione/opiates. He's got fasting black lungs Made of clove splintered shardes They're the kind that will talk Through a weezing of coughs **The man smokes clove cigarettes and his lungs betray him by making him cough when he wants to hide it. And I hear him every night In every pore And every time he just makes me warm **Here is where i think the opiates thing comes in place. you have to inject them into your veins, and you penetrate pores to get there. once it's in, the drug makes you "feel warm", as in, high. Freeze without an answer Free from all the shame Must I hide? Cause I'll never Never sleep alone **He is afraid that people will find out, and he doesnt want to sleep alone, so he does drugs before sleeping. Look at how they flock to him From an isle of open sores He knows that the taste is such Such to die for **Here is another part i think really gives in to the opiates thing. the people flock to the heroine dealer because they know he has "the goods", and the isle of open sores is all the people with sores on their arms from the hypodermic needles. And I hear him every night On every street The scales that do slither Deliver me from… **He hears the dealer, the scales being metaphorcal, the dealer is being compared to a snake, sly and sneaky, and cunning. Freeze without an answer Free from all the shame Then I'll hide Cause I'll never Never sleep alone Oh lord Said I'm bloodshot for sure Pale runs the ghost Swollen on the shore **Pale could be a result of doing the drugs, and his eyes are bloodshot from them. im not too sure about the swollen thing, might be where he stuck the needles Everynight in every pore The scales that do slither Deliver me from… Freeze without an answer Free from all the shame Then I'll hide Cause I'll never Never sleep alone Freeze without an answer Free from all the shame Let me die Cause I'll never Never sleep alone |

The Mars Volta – Aberinkula Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ok so here is the basic story: Omar finds a Ouija board in a curio shop at Jerusalem. him and Cerdic start playing with it after shoes, and they learn about a love triangle between a man, woman, and her daughter. at first, the "Soothsayer", the name they gave the board, tells them his story, but then he starts demanding things from them. all sorts of crazy shit happens, like the recording studio gets flooded out, and beats and such get all jumbled up on their computer. i think it's omar who starts getting guitar riffs and such during his sleep, so he wakes up and records it, only to find that they were never saved. to top it off, their music mixer dude goes off on a mental breakdown. pretty much, they believe that the Soothsayer is to blame for all this. so Oman buries the board, and Cedric tells Omar to never disclose the location of it. i think it's at a national park though, not too sure. this song is great, by the way. |
The Black Dahlia Murder – Thy Horror Cosmic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think this song is up for interpretation by anyone. Stein, i dont want to call you out for anything, but you refer to "christian mythology." keep in mind that not everyone believes in christian mythology. to me i think it's a calling song to Satan. "lord below, your abysmal horrors we call forth awaken -- rise up and cleanse this earth with fire" that part is Satan coming back from Hell and literally cleansing the world with fire, as in raining fire from the skies, or firestorms. "the taste of victory awaits our wicked tongues as you sleep beyond the light your blessed idol acts agent to your will" the taste of victory part i think is referring to Satan's followers, and the "sleep beyond the light your blessed idol acts agent to your will" part is a remark to those who chose to worship a different god, like Islamics or Christians, and them finding out that there never was the god they believed in. "for vast aeons has slept, lurking 'neath the haunted deep sea soaked perversion, arise named of the foulest tongue, his will ebbs within me beckoning -- what was shall once more be" the first part makes me think a bit, about what Trevor means when he uses the word "aeons." maybe it's a reference to Cthulhu, maybe just something that he thought fit perfectly there. the "sea soked perversion" could be anything, maybe Cthulhu related. "named of the foulest tongue, his will ebbs within me beckoning -- what was shall once more be" this is my favorite part of this little stanza. "named of the foulest tongue", could be a reference to Satan's name, because Christians condemned anyone who wasnt Christian during the Inquisition. "his will ebbs within me beckoning -- what was shall once more be" the will ebbing within the person could be the feelings that Satan/Cthulhu could be real, or that their presences are felt inside. the other little bit refers to the world going back to what it once was. "in the house of the dead you lie and wait oh lords of black earth controlling the minds of the meek staining this planet with visions of murder and hate" This is where it gets really interesting. the house of the dead could be anything, the house you go to when you die, the morgue. "Oh Lords of black earth" is where i think Trevor is talking about not just Satan or Cthulhu, but both of them. the rest could refer to either them, or a real person, like the current president. i think this because of the propaganda that was used to "sell" the war to americans. at first it seemed like a good idea, because they would show what happened to soldiers already there, and they would only show the most horrific of things, just to justify the war. "we pray for the earth to open free you of your ageless tomb our knees bent in your worship oh great gold one, i scream for your return" this part is open for interpretation. i think the "earth to open...ageless tomb" part is just an opening for Satan/Cthulhu to gain entrance to Earth to cleanse it with fire. "our knees bent in your worship oh great gold one, i scream for your return" is the believers rejoicing and worshiping their Lord's return, and the "oh gold one" part could be a reference to Satan/Lucifer, because Lucifer translated to "light bearer", so the light being gold makes sense. "madness unhallowed ascending moon of darkness never to wane lurking without end behind life in time and space" this part could be from the non-believer's perspective, because the "ascending moon of darkness never to wane" part is the non-believers realizing that darkness will rule the world forever. "an evil so vast beyond man's power to bear an essence insane dethrone the sovereign -- and with your might reclaim" the "evil so vast.....to bear" part could be the evil being so much that a mortal man cannot control it. the "essence insane" is true evil, and "dethrone the....reclaim" is Satan/Cthulhu showing Himself and proving to all that he really was real. "i serve allegiance to your will i scream the incantations lord unholy, your horrors i invoke come forth my lord in praise we sing of your return" this is whoever invoked Satan/Cthulhu telling Him that he will serve Him, and that he meant to invoke His horrors/punishments. the person tells Satan/Cthulhu that they are praising His return. let me know what you think. |
Job For A Cowboy – The Divine Falsehood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yes yes metal is life nailed it right on. and guiffporn is right, this is a doom metal song. the serpent is the government. the 'perception...overruling mentality' part is metaphorical, representing the feelings that humans will get when they are chipped. the 'demon' is the government. |
Avenged Sevenfold – Sidewinder Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song isnt about satan idiot >_> its about human greed and things like that being metaphorically represented by a snake. i dont see where you go off calling a snake satan >_> anyway its about how people get punished by doing what feels natural. so they try to hide it, 'but the fangs are hard to hide'. that part means that they try to hide it, but it is obvious that they are doing it anyways.. |
Avenged Sevenfold – Lips Of Deceit Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i agree with fugativemascot on agreeing with me. Oh mother war, I sleep in your arms tonight I'm burning, I'm burning for your love This juggernaut of bronze and alcohol Machines of vengeance now are born i think this part is about the war in iraq and how it was 'vital' for Bush to enter the war. the juggernaut part is simply a metaphoric representation of what alcohol did to people, and how it ruins lives. IE, the war in iraq. |
