i don't think it really contradicted the old version. i think this song is about emily thinking about where she's going with her music and what the future has to offer. sort of destroying the legend of the "twilight galaxy" and who knows, maybe inbetween the old and new version, she made that step to understanding what it's all about. at least to her, for now.
emily used to talk about how she would explore the sadder parts to life because she believed that that's where the deeper parts in life were. and i think that second verse really is about her getting over this sadness that feels, really coming to terms with it and confronting it. i don't know. hahaha. |

in the rawside of metric, emily talks about buying lottery tickets being a family thing for her.. she also tells a story about her father sending her a fake lottery ticket say they'd won $50 000, not knowing that the band was in a pretty bad financial crisis.
i don't know if this anecdote has any relation to this song, but it feels as if it does. where it has that idea of risk and just.. doing it because you have to and why not just *do* it. i have no idea anymore. what am i saying, hahaha.. |

I love these lyrics because they capture the beauty of sex in love and love in sex and sex and love and want. I do think that this song is literal in its meaning (not words, if that makes sense) and I think this straight forward truth is what makes this song so naked and beautiful. |

lyssarmz, if every line has a reference to drug use then you should know who Freud and Rilke are to back up your point.
I believe that this song is about women and their powerlessness and how society, mainly men, view them. Freud was a famous figure for judging women as the weaker human form and Jim Morrison may have died of drug abuse but he was well known for regularly having sex with his fans, famous celebrities and the like. |
