Sufjan Stevens – Christmas in the Room Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I just heard this song for the first time, and I had to stop what I was doing and listen... it made me cry and cry. I agree, this is the most intimate song I've ever heard about a pure, simple, deep and wonderful love for someone. |
Colin Blunstone – Andorra Lyrics | 14 years ago |
As I listened to the lyrics and read along, I think there are a few slight differences. Here's the complete lyrics as I listened to them: "The nearer we got to Andorra The sun set on the left The more the mountains pointed To the black clouds in the West Hey, there's a darkness In the sky that's not the night Hey, there's a rain cloud there That's shutting out the light What do I tell you, it's always the same: When you run for the sun, you catch the rain As soon as we reached Barcelona The cold wind touched the beach The sun we left in London Is way beyond our reach Hey, I said darling: It seems a waste of time Hey, all we do is sit And drink our Spanish wine What do I tell you, it's always the same: When you run for the sun, you catch the rain In all of the tales of Granada They tell of Islam's run They lived beneath the Moorish lord Beneath a Moorish sun Oh, how we yearned to turn Our faces to that glare When down from the mountains Came the rain to soak our hair What do I tell you, it's always the same: When you run for the sun, you catch the rain What do I tell you, it's always the same: When you run for the sun, you catch the rain" |
Argent – Dance In The Smoke Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Here's the lyrics as they are on the Argent album: [CHORUS:] We will light a giant burning fire tonight We will build it and dance in the smoke Every branch, we'll tie somebody's worry to it We will burn it and dance in the smoke [CHORUS] I recall it was too tall (I recall) To see the flames grow high But on tiptoe the flames would grow (but on tiptoe) And burn into the sky [CHORUS] I recall it was too tall (I recall) To see the flames grow high But on tiptoe the flames would grow (but on tiptoe) And burn into the sky [CHORUS x2] |
Donovan – Jennifer Juniper Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Does anyone know what the last verse means in english? |
Colin Blunstone – Everlasting Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
In the last verse, the line says "I believe in one I cannot see" This makes me wonder if the line "The sun has set me free" should read "The Son has set me free." |
Colin Blunstone – The Eagle Will Rise Again Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow. What a profound song. It seems like he's crying out to God. "Show me how to follow you and I'll obey, Teach me how to reach you I can't find my own way Let me see the light, let me be the light." |
The Zombies – Care Of Cell 44 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I actually think that the singer is the man in jail, reading a letter from his girl. "Care of" is a postage thing. C/O, Care Of. I used to work in a mail room. If you were addressing it, you would write the name of the prison, then "C/O Cell 44." Care Of Cell 44. This song always makes me think of the movie "Con Air" with Nicholas Cage; in the movie he was imprisoned for killing two men that were attempting to rape his pregnant wife. So the woman is writing to the man, counting the days until they set him free again. |
Colin Blunstone – Only With You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
So beautiful. A cover of The Beach Boy's song, only with Colin's amazing voice. |
Colin Blunstone – Ain't It Funny Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Maybe I have a different version of the song, but these are the complete lyrics from the version I have: Ain't it funny How it may be a bad weather day You can feel happy In a most extraordinary way Ain't it funny Though it may shine all day long You can feel down, wear a frown And your face is as long, As long as a mile You have to give before you take The choice is yours So why not make it It's easier than A.B.C. If you really try It's so easy - so easy Ain't it funny How you listen To things that you say Makes you wonder what on earth Made your mind work that way Ain't it funny How often things seem to go wrong You can feel down, wear a frown And your face is as long As long as a mile You have to give before you take The choice is yours So why not make it It's easier than A.B.C. If you really try It's so easy - so easy Da da da da da, da da da da da It's easier than A.B.C. If you really try It's so easy - so easy Ain't it funny You were standing in front of my eyes But I didn't see you My heart was telling me lies Ain't it funny Now how long had I known you Before I first saw, wanted more For the first time I knew what I had to do You have to give before you take The choice is yours So why not make it It's easier than A.B.C. If you really try It's so easy - so easy Ain't it funny |
The Weepies – Hideaway Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song gave me very strong Sixpence None The Richer vibes. It seems like they are tired of their small town/friends/family, talking about "our local hero," and that they're ready to go see more of the world. "I'll make my own way in the wide world, just know I don't want to wander too far. ...and honestly leave when I know that it's time, I know that it's time." as they sing "out the windows of our traveling car." |
They Might Be Giants – Bee of the Bird of the Moth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macroglossum_stellatarum The hummingbird hawk-moth. We used to have those near our house, because there were rose fields. I remember when I was a kid my friend and I first spotted them and thought they were some kind of bird. They're quite strange looking. |
They Might Be Giants – Take Out the Trash Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Any insight into the "It's Thursday now" line? Could that have something to do with trash day? |
Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
socratesmelody - I think several people have indicated that that was their interpretation of the song. Personally, that's not how I interpreted it when I first heard it, or even after I read other people's points. But like many people have mentioned, Sufjan's songs are always open to interpretation. |
Copeland – You Love To Sing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think the verses are the man singing, and the chorus is the woman singing to the man. First he notes that he doesn't really have time to play, because he's busy keeping a level head. Secondly he elaborates and says that he's so busy keeping a level head, he gets frustrated and distracted, and he's so concerned with providing nice things for her that he's lost sight of what he loves. She tells him to sing, because she knows he loves to sing. |
Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Good point made by Ty1020. Sufjan uses the phrase "in love" in at least two other songs, and neither of them have to do with romance that I can tell. Chicago: "I was in love with a place in my mind." Size Too Small: "And what if I told you I was in love with this?" In this song: "We were in love, we were in love Palisades, Palisades I can wait, I can wait" It sounds like he's saying "we were in love [with] palisades." They were in love with their time at camp, their time together there, and hated to leave it. "I can wait" until next year to see Palisades again, maybe? Just a thought. |
Sufjan Stevens – The Mistress Witch from McClure (Or, the Mind That Knows Itself) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
These are some of the most straight-forward lyrics I've heard by Sufjan. No one's touched on this line: "When my sister picks a fight With the Alexander boy" It sounds like she got into a fight with a boy over her dad and his "mistress." Maybe she was defending her dad before the rest of the song happened. "If I'm hiding in the sleeves Of my coat When my father runs undressed He's pointing at my throat And my brother has a fit In the snow And the traffic stops for miles We take him by the elbow" The visuals here are incredible. "We take him by the elbow" is interesting; either the brother and the sister are trying to drag him out of the road, or the brother and the father each have an elbow and are pulling him in different directions. Sufjan's songs are so personal and intense. They break my heart. |
Ben Folds – Lullabye Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Let the moonlight take the lid off your dreams." What a great line. I love this song. As for meaning, I haven't the foggiest what he's going on about - planes and James Earl Jones? But somehow it all works. It's almost like that's part of a dream, because often times things don't make a lot of sense in dreams - On the flight the pilot came himself to give him a blanket. His parents weren't there, but for some reason James Earl Jones was. Sounds like something that'd happen in one of my dreams. |
Electrasy – Cosmic Castaway Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I second the "lost thoughts" line. |
Bliss 66 – Not Quite Paradise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
THANK YOU SongMeanings. You're the only site that comes even CLOSE to having the correct lyrics for this song! Everywhere else gets "we can rent to own" wrong, which is my favorite line, and I never could understand what he was saying at "when the poets die." That said: this is my favorite song on the 2000 Titan A.E. soundtrack. It goes really well with the movie, but it also has a lot of depth outside of the storyline as well. The song has a nice upbeat feel, and the lyrics are also really well written and quirky, with a lot of real-life application. |
