The Reign Of Kindo – I Hear That Music PLay Lyrics 14 years ago
I may be reading into it a little too much, but considering the band members are christians and all the spiritual lines ("song so divine", "constant war inside my soul", etc.), I think Joe's using music as a metaphor for faith; how nothing is so beautiful or comforting than the quiet, but constant, rhythm and melody of faith. No matter how dark the situation may seem, there is a way because of that music which gives purpose to those who listen and relish in it.

Anathallo – Cuckoo Spitting Blood Lyrics 16 years ago
perhaps this is following the idea of Genessaret, with Peter?

Salt stains ringing 'round my legs.
I could not face you.

In the morning when words rose up

I dunno, I find Anathallo's lyrics to be very vague.

mewithoutYou – O, Porcupine Lyrics 16 years ago
The Babylon and river weeping is a reference from Psalms 137:

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

oh yeah, and the Screwtape Letters is a great book. Very deep and a tough read, but great nonetheless.

The Receiving End Of Sirens – Disappear (Oubliette) Lyrics 16 years ago
Revenga is right. the lyrics are from The Screwtape Letters. Here's the section of the book where Brendan got it from:

"Nothing is very strong: strong enough to steal away a man's best years not in sweet sins but in a dreary flickering of the mind over it knows not what and knows not why, in the gratification of curiosities so feeble that the man is only half aware of them, in a drumming of fingers and kicking of heels, in whistling tunes that he does not like, or in the long, dim labyrinth of reveries that have not even lust or ambition to give them a relish, but which, once chance association has started them, the creature is too weak and fuddled to shake off.
You will say that these are very small sins; and doubtless, like all young tempters, you are anxious to be able to report spectacular wickedness. But do remember, the only thing that matters is the extent to which you separate the man from the Enemy. It does not matter how small the sins are, provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts."

A dead fire in a cold room is an example of how his character can be satisfied with nothing.

mewithoutYou – Wolf Am I! (And Shadow) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about the spiritual vs. material. when he refers to "wolf" he sees himself as a wolf compared to the other sheep, and he thinks he's not a good person compared to the other believers. then when he refers to "shadow," he feels like he's not fully a part of this world either. So in essence he's stuck in the middle, not fully part of the world, but not where he would like to be as one of Christ's followers.

amazing song, if you haven't gotten the ep, you should. this song is pretty straight forward, the singer loved a girl, and she dumped him.

mewithoutYou – A Glass Can Only Spill What It Contains Lyrics 16 years ago
aaron said that the cat with eyes closed drinking milk metaphor was referring to how we think we can sin and stuff because no one sees us, yet God still sees us, so we're really not hiding from anyone.

aaron also brought in the allusions to Christs death. I'm guessing that he was trying to show a contrast between us and Christ, in that we try to hide our sin, and Christ died for that sin. he ties it together at the end too, "my lips betray with a kiss!"

although we know Christ died to take away our sin, we continue in it, and we betray Him every time we sin.

my $.02

Dead Poetic – Crashing Down Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't think this song really has anything to do with bashing catholics. I think it's how non-christians act regarding sin and stuff, and how they view christians.

Don’t fool the crowd with all your sentiments in vain.
We are alive again. We will survive again.
Don’t turn your back to every move you ever made.
We are alive again. We will survive again.

"sentiments in vain" they pretend to feel bad about what they do, but they really aren't.

"turn your back" they say they'll change, but they wont, because they keep doing what they've always done.

The second verse talks about how non-christians look at us as being perfect people, and that we can somehow make them feel better. it goes on to say that we're just the same, we make the same kind of mistakes, but we feel the "sting," or the guilt, because we know the truth and that we shouldn't be sinning.

the chorus is talking about how until Christ comes back for us, we'll always have this sin problem, "we are what we are."

I'm not quite sure what the second verse means, but the bridge is talking about the same thing.

They paint us immaculate.
Ignoring the fact that we’re shoving our faults in their faces.

they call us perfect, even though everyday they can see we are just as bad as they are.

They wanted more.
Of the fame, of the scripted, the same,
Of the sacred, the fraud, fabricated.

not too sure what this means, but i think its talking about once they see we have faults, they want more examples of how we are wrong.

hope that clears some things up.
