i get the sense that he's just hit a bunch of hurdles recently in his life(maybe a break-up,maybe just feelings of unaccomplishment) and he's dealing with it is by just blocking it all out and not truly caring.like hes just in his mind everythings okay and thats whats getting him through and he doesnt want anyone to tell him otherwise.and i agree with yhalothar,im pretty sure its "this is changed,its a shame..." |

how has this song not been commented yet?the song seems to be about a girl leading a guy on and hes had enough and wants her to either be his or nothing to him at all.OR it could be about a couple who's split and is having trouble with the post-break-up friendship and needs to decide whether to be in love or just move on.either way,great song,days away was an amazing band |

this song reminds me of when i realized philadelphia was the wrong city for me.i felt trapped,made not a single friendship that i felt was right, and was having problems with this girl who i dated briefly.so i packed my things and headed back home.on the train ride home,i listened to this song and kept replaying the last verse over and over.i grew up in the shadow of new york city and have lived 20 minutes away for just about my entire life.the city is my backyard and its the only place where i feel completely calm.its the only place that i feel comfortable calling my home. |

cant believe no one has commented on this song yet.probably my favorite on the album.according to dev,this song is about the verbal abuse he suffers from people of his own race.just makes me think about all th hypocrisy and foolishness surrounding racial stereotypes.
also,it kind of sounds like conor oberst is singing backup vocals at the end.which can be a possibility since he recorded this album with the saddle creek crew in omaha. |

the sound/style of this song is so catchy and beautiful.i think it might be able some one who's on the fence about some one they really admire.maybe theyre just starting to get involved and he's worried she'll let him down in just a matter of time,or theyre patching things up again after a small hiatus and is afraid it wont be the same as it was.he seems to weighing out all the possibilities and is worried things can be only temporary but still cant shake the thought of the girl.or it could be about how he stalked her,she slapped him with a restraining order and he now lays in the cut,hiding in her bushes watching her undress,following her in his mom's mecury oldsmobile,and breaking in and hovering over her while she sleeps...but i prefer the first theory more. |

ahh yes...to be in love with the most beautiful girl in the world.i dont think ive ever heard a more perfect love song.if only i could write songs like this.anyway,its obvious its a love song,most likely about his girlfriend being away and he cant stand to be away from her any longer.but it also seems to have another side to it in the sense that it might be about how much he admires the girl and is trying to summon the courage to make it all happen.all in all i feel the beauty of this song lies in the way he describes how she makes him feel,how hes so captivated by her hes tongue tied and feels like a shy little boy.much like a first love sort of thing,but he's so certain that she's the one for him |
