The Februarys – Blue Harvest Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is about growing up in a small town - people say they'll always stay connected to their "roots" but everyone always ends up leaving, going away, moving on to bigger and better things. Great imagery in this song!

The Thermals – Born Dead Lyrics 15 years ago
I may be out of it, but I'm still into you.

It's like no matter what happens, good or bad, that other person will always be there. Anyway, that's the only sense I make out of it. The lyrics are pretty ridiculous.

Sarah Slean – Looking for Someone Lyrics 16 years ago
I think part of this has to do with waiting until you're married to have sex, however I really like that she got Ron Sexsmith and Todd Clark from Pilate for this. Totally rad.

Mostly the meaning is pretty obvious... she's still looking for that right person, and when she finds him she'll know.

The Dodos – Winter Lyrics 16 years ago
These lyrics are so fantastic.

Basically the relationship ended because she is realising there might be more than just him in the world and he's crushed.

The The – Helpline Operator Lyrics 16 years ago
This song reminds me of internet relationships... almost along the same lines as one over the phone. There is still that barrier between people so they feel like they can say whatever they want with no consequences. I think this song displays the vulnerability of the caller and how special the person on the other end feels now that the person is revealing everything to them - they are the "intimate stranger" someone who now will know so much about you, but at the same time has no idea who you really are.

Mogwai – Cody Lyrics 16 years ago
"Old songs, stay till the end.
Sad songs, remind me of friends."

Meaning, friends don't necessarily stay like the music does. At least that's how I always interpreted it. I like it to think of it that way.

Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is not depressing in my opinion. It is so liberating.

Tom McRae – Got A Suitcase, Got Regrets Lyrics 16 years ago
"See the hope in small things
Disappointment can wear you thin"

Goddamn this is so applicable at the moment. Anyway, great song I think it's about going somewhere, getting somewhere in life but first deciding you're not totally giving up on where you are now.

Treble Charger – Left Feeling Odd Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a great song. I think a lot of people can relate... the world leaves you feeling left out and like you don't belong.

Melissa Mcclelland – White Lies (Stranded in Suburbia) Lyrics 16 years ago
Typical song written about suburbia. "Must get out of here" "it's so boring." She mentions having a curfew, so I'm assuming she is still living at home, under the influence of parents.

13 & God – Superman on Ice Lyrics 16 years ago
I wish I had more of an idea what 13 & God's songs were about. I have no clue. But their lyrics are something to ponder, for sure. I love this song.

Porcupine Tree – Normal Lyrics 16 years ago
Steven Wilson sure likes to repeat lyrics and themes eh? Agreed with headphonedust... this is Sentimental's other version I suppose. Glad the other one was included on the album though - way better in my opinion.

Anyway, I think the song is from the point of view of someone who to know what it's like to feel sentimental - to look back on something and remember it fondly. The drugs that are referred to in the song might not allow them to do that any longer perhaps. Or they make it difficult to remember what life was like in general because remembering what went on while taking the drugs doesn't produce any feelings at all.

Interesting stuff.

Billy Bragg – The Saturday Girl Lyrics 16 years ago
Ya this is called "The Saturday Boy."

Anyway, great tune. Love the trumpet. It's about THAT crush. Everyone knows the feeling.

Oceansize – Commemorative 9/11 T-shirt Lyrics 16 years ago
I dig this song. The entire Frames album is so rad I can't stand it.

The meaning of this is fairly obvious I think.

Aesop Rock – Coffee (feat. John Darnielle) Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely my favourite off of None Shall Pass as well. Crazy.

As for the meaning I have no fucking clue.

Oceansize – Saturday Morning Breakfast Show Lyrics 16 years ago
Might be the best song on Effloresce in my opinion.

The lyrics are great too. Obviously he wants to leave the situation he's currently in - start a new life somewhere else. Somewhere better. I think we've all felt this way at some point.

Billy Bragg – The Marriage Lyrics 16 years ago
Man I love this song. It's so true.

Sun Kil Moon – Duk Koo Kim Lyrics 16 years ago
This is my favourite Sun Kil Moon song.

I have no idea what it means because this is the first time I've known what the hell he was saying. From glancing at these lyrics, I'd say it's about a past love.

Neil Young – On the Beach Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is amazing. Depressing, but amazing.

And yeah, definitely about not being able to be satisfied with life in general. Always feeling like you need more and it's never there.

Dredg – Catch Without Arms Lyrics 16 years ago
These lyrics are so bad. But maybe that's part of the whole "sticking it to the man" thing.

"To make your wallet fat
While mine's on a diet"

What the fuck. Worst lyrics ever.

Iron & Wine – Peng! 33 (Stereolab cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
Man I hate Stereolab. But he did a good job with this.

Sarah Harmer – Uniform Grey Lyrics 16 years ago
I always assumed she was singing about Burlington, Ontario, her hometown because it's on the coast of Lake Ontario.

But the traveling idea makes sense.

Anyway, I absolutely LOVE this song. Probably my favourite by Sarah Harmer.

Porcupine Tree – Nine Cats Lyrics 16 years ago
I've never done drugs, and this song probably doesn't make sense unless you're on them. But I love it anyway. It's a great tune.

Tori Amos – Carbon Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song more than so many other things... wish more people loved it as much.

The meaning is fairly obvious imo. Amos is not secretive about meanings.
